Pelagia stretched out trying to get the kinks out of her back from the wood bunk she had been sleeping in. Gosh..she really needed to get some bedding for this bunk or she'd end up with a totally messed up back.
She yawned and ran a hand through her greasy red and brown tresses and glanced around the crew's bunk house. Great..she must have slept in longer than she should have. Though..wait, since she had worked the whole last night today was a day off. And they had docked last night at one of those back water mud hole towns, not that she was judging it on appearances. If it had a bar or some sort of watering hole that had whiskey that would be great.

With the thought of a whiskey on her mind, Peg quickly pulled her pants shot a disapproving glare when she caught one of the "sleeping" men peeping at her. "Turn your a** around or you'll be wearing your balls around your neck." She said angrily.

The man's eyes widened and he flipped over so he couldn't see her. Peg smirked and then withdrew her night shirt and pulled on a corset. She wasn't about to give the man a free showing of her breasts. Dratted men seemed to always try and peep on her.

Once the corset was on and tightened, she shoved her boots on and made her way up the stairs to the deck. There were quite a few men busy at work, a few of which looked up at her as she made her way across the deck and leaped off onto the dock where they were tied up.

"See ya latah Mateys!" She waved back as she went off in search of something hard to drink.

She noticed there were several other pirate ships docked a little further out from the town. She grinned, if there were this many ships then there was more than likely a pretty good bar and other pirates that she could win some stuff off of. Today was going to be fun.

Scar woke to a bucket of cold seawater being splashed on her face. She sputtered and tried to sit up but noticed she wasn’t really lying down… well, sort of. She vaguely remembered being up on the rigging with the starlight over head. They had sailed through a bad storm and everyone had to work into the night. She must have passed out from exhaustion at some point. Now here she was, leg caught in the shroud and lying on it at a pretty extreme angle.

Out of reflex she reached out, grabbing the shirt of whoever was in front of her and drawing a dagger from her belt. She didn’t bring it to his throat, no, she pressed the sharp point against a part of his anatomy that was much farther south. “Oi there Scar. I was jess tryin to wake ya.” The pirate squeaked, throwing his hands up in surrender. The bucket he once held hit the deck and bounced away.

She let the man go and pushed him away from her, turning her attention to getting unstuck. She cut a small piece of line and her leg sprang free. As gravity took hold she grabbed the rigging with a practiced ease and flipped herself upright. Her boots made a satisfying thud as she landed on her feet. “Cap’n say all crew who worked through da storm get today off.”

Scar sheathed her dagger and nodded. “If anyone asks I’ll be a’ the pub. I’m tired of swill we got off tha’ freigh’er.” her voice seemed out of place. It was rougher than it should be, but by now, the crew was used to it. Unfortunately Scar only grew to hate it. She adjusted the bandana on her head, making sure it was level with her eyebrows. Off all the scars she had, that one over her eye made her the most self conscious.

Scar made her way off the boat, adjusting her clothes so she didn’t look like a complete fool. One fool decided to look at her chest as she adjusted her top and she nearly wedged a knife between his eyes for it.

Pelagia's stomach rumbled as the delicious smells wafting through the late morning air reminded her she hadn't eaten in awhile. She shoved her hand into her pockets to see if she had any coins. Her fingers went through her left pocket and she frowned. There was a huge hole in her pocket, how the hell had that happened? The other hand touched something smooth, flat and round and she pulled it out of her right pocket to have a look at it. It would probably be enough to get herself a bowl of whatever stew was on hand in the nearest bar and a large tankard of beer.

Any other day she would have been satisfied to filling her belly, but today she was feeling a bit more on the reckless side. She stashed the coin back into her pocket and entered the closest bar she could find. It smelled slightly rank, but the brewing stew in back overrode the salty rotting clothes of the pirates that were packed in the bar.

Pelagia glanced around at the tables that were filled for a game that she could get in on. It was just her luck that one luckless drunken pirate staggers to his feet with a curse and staggered away muttering curses at the rest of the table. Peg took a look around the four remaining pirates and decided that she'd probably have some good luck winning from these four. They all looked pretty drunk and red eyed. If she got a few good hands then she could definitely make more coins for food and possibly a new pair of boots. She really needed to replace this pair. They were already falling to pieces.

"Might ahh join yore game?" She asked, balancing her leg on the chair as she awaited their answer.

The four pirates looked up and practically drooled as they looked her over, their eyes mainly focusing on her chest. She grinned and held back a laugh. The best way to get a man's attention was to let him get a good eyeful of the goods. And if they continued to be distracted by her feminine parts then she'd have a better chance at winning more coins from them.

"Ahh don't mind if ye wants ta join us. Wot say yee mateys?" The slender black haired pirate asked shooting a grin, showing off several gold teeth in his mouth.

"By all means, let the lady join us." Came the answer from a rather muscular blond haired man dressed in a slightly faded brocade vest.

Peg found herself eyeing the man. The way he spoke meant he hadn't started life out as a pirate, and that he more than likely had been driven to it by misfortune of some kind. He had a rather nice face, despite the scar that ran along his left jawline. That had definitely come from a sword fight, and not from a cutlass fight.

Peg smiled when the other two men just continued to stare and couldn't seem to formulate any answers. "I hope this will be enough to join t' game." She said pleasantly as she took a seat and plunked down her single coin.

The gentleman pirate nodded and began to deal the cards out. Peg leaned back in her chair, balancing it back on two legs while she waited for her cards. This seemed to intensify the other two's attention to her. The dealing pirate shot her an amused look as he finished.
"Your distraction game isn't going to work on me." he told her dryly.
"Whatever are ya talkin' about?" She asked with a wink at him.

Scar took her time in town. It had been a while since they had made port and she just wanted to walk on something that didn’t sway with every little breeze. It felt strange to her, being on land after growing so accustomed to the sea. She knew it wasn’t the life her father had hoped for her, but it was the legacy he left her.

She thought of him as she stared at an old ring some too bit back ally thief was trying to sell. The stone was a chunk of amber, polished smooth and sparkling. Usually amber was set with gold, but this one was set in silver. Her father had worn one like it. She remembered telling him once that the stone was the same color as his eyes. That had made her dad smile. “How much?” she asked.

The thief looked a little antsy, sizing her up as he looked around. Scar was about to say something when she was bumped hard from the side. She staggered, nearly losing the ring and her footing as she was pushed into the wall. The thief and whoever the hell ran into her took off in a rush. Scar still had the ring in her hand and it only took a moment for her to realize what had happened. She felt around, her coin purse was gone. Scar bristled, shoving the ring in her pocket and taking off after the thieves. There was no way they were going to out run her. She caught sight of them at the end of the alley but they went separate ways on the street. She picked the one she hadn’t gotten a good look at, figuring he had her money. The street was busy and it was slowing the thief down. Good thing for Scar had no idea who he as messing with. She effortlessly vaulted up onto a cart and ran across it, shortcutting through the crowd.

Scar took a chance, leaping off the cart and onto the thief. They both crumpled into the doorway of the bar, knocking into a table. The man tried to overpower her but she was smarter and used his weight against him. They rolled a couple of times before settling with Scar sitting on his chest, knife to his throat. She looked up, noticing all of the eyes on her. “What ya lookin at? He stole from me!” she snapped, her voice cracking a little and only serving to piss her off more. She looked bad down at the thief and narrowed her eyes. Some of the noises of the bar returned and Scar knew that most of the people had returned to whatever they were doing.

The thief wasn’t very old, maybe 18 or19. He still had a lot to learn. Scar felt him shift beneath her and heard the rattling of coin.

Without breaking eye contact she grabbed his wrist and slammed his hand down against the ground. The coin purse fell out of his grip. Without missing a bit she took the knife and buried it in the palm of his hand, pinning it to the wood floor. The thief cried out in pain and Scar scooped up the coin purse as she stood. She refastened it to her belt and then looked down at him with a tilt of her head. She almost felt bad for him as she watched him curl around his injured hand. Scar crouched down, sighing long and hard and looking him in the eye. Oh he was mad.“Nex time, don steal from someone you can’t ou’run.” She said and pulled her knife out of his hand.

The thief groaned, scampering to his feet and out the door with a trickle of blood in his wake. It served him right. Scar pulled an old stained handkerchief out of her pocket and used it to clean the blood off her knife as she sat at the bar. “Shot o’ rum. Make i’ a double.” She told the barkeep, sliding the knife back in its pace on her belt. Scar felt eyes on her and turned to the pirate next to her. He was looking at her with lusty eyes and licking his lips like she was something to be devoured. She just looked over at him, eyes cold and lifeless as she stared, unmoving. After a few moments the pirate’s expression changed. He turned away from her, looking uneasy as he picked up his drink and moved to the other end of the bar. Scar just smirked; picking up her shot of rum and downing it in one go. She motioned the barkeep for another, grinning as she waited for more rum.

Peg had just gathered up her card to look at them when a waitress came over and plunked down a fresh tankard of ale in front of her. Peg leaned forward and took a small sniff of it. Her lip curled at the off smell of the swill and she set her cards down with an annoyed look on her face.

"HEY WENCH COME TAKE THIS SWILL AWAY!" She bellowed loudly to be heard over the crowd.

Everyone in the bar went completely silent and turned to stare at her with annoyed expressions. "Oh come off it," Peg glowered at them all and tossed her hair over her shoulder. "I don't want this stinking ale. Bring me some whiskey please. I've got the coin." She told the bar maid who had come back over to her.

The bar maid looked down at her with an annoyed expression. "Thar is no whiskey." She replied in a bored tone, "Just drink what Ahh gave ya and quit yor belly achin!"

Pelagia met the other woman's gaze evenly, her eyes going darker with anger. She pushed her chair out, causing it to scrap against the wood floor causing a loud screech. She stood up and plunked her cards face down on the table. "Well I don't want yore swill..so take it back!"

It was fortunate that Peg had stood up because the next moment there was a commotion from outside and then there was a brawl going on right next to her. The two fighters hit the table causing the tankard of ale to spill down on them as they rolled around on the bar floor.

Peg was rather impressed when the female fighter won the fight rather easily. She eyed her and was surprised to see the other had striking golden eyes and harshly cut shaggy brown hair. Peg waited for the bar maid to clean up the mess made by the two fighters and then sat back down, turning her seat slightly so she could keep an eye on this new comer. She could hardly take her eyes off of her. For some reason..she looked awfully familiar to her.

"All right..let's get this game a goin'." Peg said, throwing her coin out on the table and a small smirk on her mouth.

Scar waited for the bartender to come back, fishing into her coins for payment. When the man tried to pour her another shot she plunked a few coins on the counter, plenty enough for the whole bottle. He gave her a stern look but Scar just held her hand out and raised an eyebrow. (Though it probably got lost under her bandana) He grudgingly handed her the bottle and scooped the coins off the counter before heading off to serve another patron.

Scar took a swig right out of the bottle and swiveled a little in her stool. She looked about, taking in the usual sights and sounds of a bar: a couple of men having an arm wrestling contest, what looked like a heated argument, and a game of cards that caught her attention. She noticed at the table, as odd as it might seem, another female pirate. They were a rare breed, most pirates thinking it bad luck to have a woman aboard.

Scar noticed the woman’s one eye flick her way so she pretended not to notice her. But notice she had. The woman had long beautiful auburn hair and the eye that wasn’t covered in a patch was a startling shade of green and held a familiar sparkle.

Scar shook her head. It had been so long since she had seen her friend, she wasn’t sure she even knew what Pelagia looked like… but from what she could remember… she had eyes and hair the same color. She sighed, taking another swig and knowing she was being ridiculous. She had long given up hope of finding her friend but somehow… this chick and her cocky attitude and loud mouth… She couldn’t help but keep an eye on her.

For the past half hour, Peg's pile of coins had been growing higher and higher. And the players at the table had dwindled down to two, her and the dandy pirate. His once jovial manner had disappeared and he was now scowling at his hand of cards.

Peg glanced at her cards once more, trying to keep the delight out of her expression. She had no doubt that she had the winning hand, that would result in her winning the last bit of gold the other pirate was now looking over.

Peg leaned forward, and slowly counted out her dubloons into stacks of ten. When it was all stacked up she shoved it into the middle of the table. "Ahh'm all in, what about you?"

The blonde pirate looked up and glared at her, his eyes dark rage. "You little b***h!" He swore and stood up quickly knocking the table and causing her coins to spill all over the surface. "You've been cheating since you started playing!"

Peg was rather pissed off at the accusation because for once she had been playing without cheating and was actually winning. "Ya need to take that back, ya ******** cocksucker," she swore getting up onto her feet. "Ahh dinna cheat ya, ahh've been playing clean as ye have. Now sit down and finish the game or get yer arse out of my sight before I gut ya for callin' me a cheat."

Peg could feel the room was now full of tension and that half of the pirates in the room had more than likely gone for their weapons in anticipation of the coming fight. Peg hadn't been itching for a fight, but she was fully prepared to fight to the death to keep him from getting away with calling her a cheat.

Scar had grown tired of watching the game from afar. She ended up taking her bottle of rum and kicking a rather thin pirate out of his barstool much closer to the table. She drank happily, watching the game with rapt attention. She paid especially close attention to the female pirate. She was pretty good. Her tell was subtle (but not unnoticeable), and she knew how and when to bet.

It was rather amusing to watch the men around her slowly losing their gold. In the case of the last man standing, he was also losing his temper. When he made his accusation, Scar narrowed her eyes. She knew that he was just blowing smoke. As a matter of fact, the man had been cheating earlier in the game.

The girl hadn’t cheated, Scar was pretty sure she would have seen it. She was good at noticing those things.... and even if she had seen her cheating, Scar would have kept her mouth shut.

Scar took another swig of her rum, setting the partially emptied bottle down on the counter. She moved slowly, trying not to draw attention as her hands slowly moved to the larger knives on her belt. If this turned into a fight, the whole bar would end up a part of it. She let her eyes scan her immediate surroundings, noting the three men closest to her. Odds were, they would all end up on the wrong side of her blade before this was done.

The blonde haired pirate's expression altered slightly causing Peg's eye to narrow at him suspiciously. "Well Ahh aught ta 'ave known, ye have been cheatin' me. Should 'ave figured ye for a yellow bellied cheater!" She yelled at him angrily ripping her long dirk from her boot and diving over the table at him, causing the coins to fly everywhere.

The rest of the tavern was strangely silent, until the blond pirate managed to back up and bump into a rather tall mountain of a pirate. The large pirate clapped a hand down on the offending pirate's shoulder to keep him in place. He leered down at him, "An just where do ye think ye are going? You owe the lady pirate an apology."

Peg was now finally over the table, her lone eye sparkling with rage. "Cowardly dog! Running from a fight? What kind o' pirate are ye?"

The blonde pirate in desperation grabbed the giant pirate's hand and flipped him over his shoulder, using the other's weight against him. Peg hadn't even seen it coming, and was hit by the sudden immense form of the huge pirate and pinned to the floor. "AUGH! Get 'im off of me!" her desperate yell was muffled by the large pirate's muscular chest which was now nearly crushing her face.

Fortunately for Peg, the large pirate was a lot more agile and quick than anyone else had figured and leaped off of her almost instantly and went after the blonde pirate his face now a picture of pure fury. "Ye little cur! I'll gut ye for that!" He bellowed and caught the pirate by the back of his shirt and hoisted him up in the air.

Peg could have insisted that the other pirate take his turn, but decided she liked how handy it was for him to be held aloft where he couldn't get away, though he squirmed around helplessly.

"Ye might want to hold him by the skin, cause his shirt is ripping and then he'll be free too soon for our likes." She told the big man as she gathered up the scattered coins. "Don't worry, we'll take 'im out back and deal with 'im out there. We wouldn't want to mess up yer tavern." she said to the tavern owner who was hovering with an annoyed look on his face.

She was rather thankful that the dandy pirate didn't have any friends in the tavern or this might have gotten a lot more messy. "Here, maybe this will 'elp ye forget we was 'ere." She said handing over a few of her gold coins.

Peg glanced around the bar and caught sight of the female pirate she had noticed before and her throat nearly closed up at the sight of the female's now more apparent scars and her knives. Holy crap! It was Scar! How could she not have seen that before? She nodded her head and made a very discrete sign with her hand, hoping that her old friend would recognize it. She then turned and lead the big man out the back of the tavern with the now purple faced dangling pirate.

Would her friend recognize her? She didn't know. She rather hoped her friend would, but it had been ages since she had been kidnapped by pirates and forced to work under them at the young age of 11. Scar and her had met when Peg had been around 8 or 9 and they had been fast friends and lived off the streets for several years on their own. It seemed like an age ago when it had all happened.

Peg glanced down at the small scar on the wrist of her right hand and traced it remembering when the two of them had become blood sisters and had promised to always help each other out.

Scar watched tensely as things heated up between the female pirate and the blonde git. She was half tempted to get involved, to step in and help her out. Though honestly, the large part of her was pretty sure that she could handle herself.

Which was quickly confirmed as the woman dove over the table after the pirate. Scar kept a hand on her knives, watching closely as everyone seemed to back away from the fight. No one wanted to get involved, though she wasn’t sure if it was because they were afraid of who was fighting, or just too drunk to care anymore. Common sense told her it was the latter. Scar watched on just as the others did, but she had herself at the ready. If the blond tried to make a run for it, she would end this quick.

But fortunately, or unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) Scar didn’t get the chance. The fight was ended quickly and the new pirate to the brawl looked very pleased with his catch. The rest of the place seemed to relax immensely once they were on their way out. For just a moment Scar and the female pirate locked eyes and-

That signal. That was something the thieves had worked out back when she was a kid. It was a signal that the thieves used to recognize each other. Something only their little band knew. All of the dots in Scar’s head started to connect. There was no way, no chance that her fleeting thought could be reality, that this woman was actually Pela. Her eyes were a little manic as she picked up her bottle of rum and downed enough to make even her throat burn a little.

Finally she turned toward the door, taking her bottle with her and walking outside. Scar looked to the side of the building, to the alley that led to the back. She wasn’t sure if she should go back there or not. The two pirates were more than likely going to kill that man, which was fine by her. She had no business getting involved. But if that was indeed Pela then she couldn’t just walk away. She needed to find out for sure.

“Dammit.” She sighed, keeping one hand on a knife as she walked around to the back of the building. It wasn’t so much the female she was worried about. It was the big guy that had gone back there with her. The female had a lot of coin on her, and Scar wouldn’t have put it past him to try and take it from her.

Peg was strangely elated when Scar finally recognized her even though the other didn't return the signal. Finally after so long the two of them had found one another. Peg was momentarily distracted by the thought of what she might say to her friend that she didn't realize til almost too late that she might be walking into a trap following the large pirate out the back.

Her brow furrowed when she recalled how easily the slender pirate had been able to toss the much heavier man over onto her. It was almost as though the two had been working together. When this thought flashed through her mind an alarm went off in her head. She glanced up to see that the larger man releasing the other and going to drag out his sword.

"s**t!" She muttered, then almost abruptly turned and fled. Sure she could have engaged them, but it wasn't really in her nature to commit suicide. And fighting against two men would have been suicide, unless she had someone to help her. When it came to running, Peg was more likely faster than those two.

"After her!" Cried one of the men. Peg let out a cursed laugh and like the wily thief she had once been, began to lead the two men on a merry chase weaving in and out of the small alley ways of the small town. She climbed up roofs, around and through the small thatched cottages until she finally came out into the open on the wharf near the docks. She cursed her bad luck, it appeared that she wasn't going to be able to rendevou with Scar like she had wanted. Well perhaps she'd be able to get one of her mates to take a note or missive to her. That might work.

She hunkered down next to a rather battered looking ship and waited breathlessly, listening for the two thug pirates. When she didn't hear anything she grinned cockily and stood up and brushed off her pants. She had succeeded in losing them. That was a relief. She slowly made her way down the dock and towards her ship only to be confronted by the blonde haired pirate with a look of utter contempt on his face.

"Hand over the gold." He demanded, a little breathlessly as he held his sword out offensively.

"Go eat s**t." Peg replied dourly. She glanced over at her ship to see that the few pirates on duty were watching the exchange. She'd definitely not be getting any help from them.

"Give it to me now!" He demanded, advancing on her.

Peg was not amused at all. Her hand slide down to the dirk hidden at the small of her back and pulled it free. "Not going to happen cocksucker." she retorted calmly. "Come and get it if you want it."

"Thieving Whore!" he screamed and ran at her.

Peg let loose her dirk, which sailed straight into the his head, right between his eyes. The pirate fell with a thud to the dock short of her by only inches. Peg sighed and leaned over him. "Poor stinking fool. You should have left well enough alone." She muttered and pried his sword from his hand.

She pulled her dirk from his head and wiped it off on his faded brocade vest. She eyed his boots for a moment and then proceeded to taking them off. Well..not only did she get the boots she needed but she also got a pretty dandy sword not to mention a pouch full of gold.

She was so intent on getting the boots off her ears didn't register the boot falls of the larger pirate striding up behind her.

{Scar's Post}
Scar had followed them back through the alley at a distance. She wanted to be able to back Peg up, but didn't necessarily want to give away that she was here. It was a good thing she had followed. Scar heard Peg cry out as she rounded the corner, looking over just in time to see them disappear into another alley "Dammit Peg." Scar cursed under her breath, taking off behind them.

Boot heels clicked against the cobblestones as she weaved through alleys. Sometimes she had to shove people out of the way, other times she was able to duck to the side or jump over a barrel or something of the like. Back in the day, her and peg had been the best runners of their little gang. The fastest, the slipperiest. Scar's time aboard the ship had only made her better. Her position having her climb rigging and ropes and scaling the masts. Swinging down to let the sails down in a hurry or clambering over a fallen support to untie the damn thing before the ship sunk.... They were all second nature to her, because free running was second nature.

Eventually the alley split and Scar took to the roof, catching sight of Peg as she disappeared between two buildings and inside another. She cut over to another roof, making it to the ground after and ending near the wharf herself. Gold eyes hastily scanned the crowd, trying and hoping to find a glimpse of her red hair anywhere... but no luck. She cursed under her breath, hoping that maybe if Peg got away from her, that she got away from the other pirates as well. Still, she pushed her way through the crowd for a few minutes, looking and scanning and hoping to find her friend. After a few minutes she gave up. Peg could have run off in any direction by now... she would have if she was smart.

But a cry of "Give it to me now!" caught her attention. She followed the sound toward the dock, eying the blond pirate a moment before he screamed and charged. She was still some ways down the dock, but it was hard to miss the way the man instantly fell back, hitting the ground with an audible thump. She just leaned against a crate, shaking her head as she watched Pela clean her dagger and start to relieve the pirate of his boots. Poor b*****d.

But a shadow caught her attention, the bigger pirate walking with slow sure steps as he drew his sword. Blood shot eyes were fixated on Pelagia and Scar reacted without a second thought. Feet moved quickly over the cobblestone, dagger in hand in one swift motion as she moved quietly towards the pirate. It didn't matter how big someone was. There were a few ways to kill a man that would guarantee his death if done properly. One of them, Scar had survived... and in some twisted way, it had become her favorite method of disposing off assholes in a very quiet way that still gave them plenty of time to have that 'Oh s**t, I'm dying.' moment.

It only took her a few moments to cross that distance, the pirate now right behind Peg and ready to strike. As soon she was close enough Scar reached up, grabbing a handful of greasy hair and yanking his head back. The dagger in her hand sliced through his throat like butter, the cut far too deep and complete for there to be any hope as he fell gurgling to the ground. The only downside: it was a bit messy.
