Tomte Basic InfoName:......↳ TomteMeaning:......↳ Ainu for "to cause to shine."Nickname:......↳ Te-Te, but only by her family.Gender:......↳ FemaleRole:......↳ Monk ---- > ShamanTree of Origin:......↳ The Tree of the SunCurrent Residence:......↳ The Grandmother TreeVirtues:Devout Tomte has always been a spiritual lemur, and this is a quality she holds onto with high importance. Ever since she was an adolescent, it has been a trait that she has had. She prays to the Gods regularly three times a day: morning, noon, and night, as well as performing different rituals throughout the day for various things. If she's not praying or helping someone in need, she can also be found studying various religious texts. Tomte's devout nature, she feels, keeps her both grounded and calm, and she finds it very useful whether helping others or helping herself.
Frugal The shaman has never been quick to waste what she has or throw things away without thinking about it. Everything she sees has some purpose or use, and Tomte does her best to maximize what she has. She has also never been a very materialistic lemur. All she needs is a roof over her head, a way to put some food on the table, and a place to sleep. All the fineries in life never meant much to her. As an adolescent, she used to save whatever money she got for later use, or she would donate money to charity (giving it to the monks, mystics, and shamans in particular). It's better in her mind to give than to receive, in her mind, and even as a shaman she is very economic with what she has.
Selfless The well-being of others physically, emotionally, and spiritually is of utmost importance to Tomte. She has never really placed high regard on herself, as she views doing so as an act of selfishness. Not wanting to focus solely on herself, Tomte turns her attention toward others in need. If a lemur is ever in need of advice, the monk will do whatever she can in order to help. It's a way of giving back and showing others that she cares. As long as she is able, why not help? Tomte always looks forward to helping or pitching in, and she never seems to ask for anything in return. She helps because she enjoys helping, not for the payment or reward that goes along with it. If another lemur insists on payment of some sort, the monk then suggests that they make an offering to the various clergy in order to help out the other mystics, monks and shamans. Flaws:Old-Fashioned Unfortunately, Tomte is rather old-fashioned in her beliefs. Although most of the people do not go by gender constraints, the monk feels that females do better at taking care of families, while males are the ones that go out and provide for the family. It is a belief that makes the most sense to her, and although she doesn't push this on others, one might see her surprise if she ever spoke to a female Descender, for example. Tomte also doesn't see the need for things such as extreme wealth or the need for materialistic things. What's the use of a new necklace? People should turn their thoughts to more practical and meaningful things.
Stubborn One would be hard pressed to get Tomte to stray from her views. She is very stubborn in this regard. When she wants something, she goes after it until she either gets it, or until she can go no more. A good example of this was her desire to become a member of the clergy, as opposed to staying in the noble society she was born into. If Tomte believes in something, then she will hold on to that belief, no matter what. Good luck trying to convince her otherwise, though a lemur would have a better chance if they presented a very good argument.
Difficulty in saying no It's hard to say no to people in need, and the shaman is the first to admit that she has difficulty with it. When someone comes to her and asks for help, then how could she possibly say no? Tomte feels that it's her duty to help others when they ask for it, regardless of whether she needs a break or not. This is a flaw that often can get the female lemur in trouble in a number of ways. First off, it leaves Tomte open to being taken advantage of. Regardless of whether someone needs the help or is just being lazy by asking, she will normally help out, anyway. It hasn't been unheard of for Tomte to be walked over by some other selfish lemur. The second problem it leads to, however, is the affect on her health. After helping so many people, Tomte can get worn out physically, which causes her to get sick or mentally exhausted. She needs to learn to say no more easily, but unfortunately it's something that will take some time. Relationships The FamilyAnmol; the Father Anmol is a very stern lemur with a mind for business and no-nonsense. This has served him well in his line of work, and has enabled him to become a wealthy merchant. It has also allowed his family to live comfortably in the noble class in their home in the Tree of the Sun. Despite his serious exterior, Anmol cares deeply for his mother, wife, and daughter. He always seems wrapped up his work, however, and never really made time for Tomte when she was growing up. Providing for his family is of the utmost importance to him.
Tomte's Thoughts on Anmol - Tomte loves her father and she respects his work, but she was never very close to him. Even when she would spend time with him as an adolescent, he always seemed rather distant, as if his mind were preoccupied elsewhere. She's slightly resentful of the fact that the two aren't very close, but is slowly trying to get over this. She also finds him to be a bit intimidating in terms of his demeanor, and because of this, she doesn't exactly like him very much.
Anmol's Thoughts on Tomte - Although Anmol cares for his daughter, his work was always put first, as it meant that he knew his family was taken care of. Anmol loves Tomte, but is rather resentful of the fact that she had no desire to take over the family business. Tomte never wanted to be a merchant, and the job was never in her blood as it had been in his. Instead, his daughter went on to live the life of a monk, and this has left Anmol rather bitter. He doesn't understand the need or desire to live such a lifestyle. He is also not a particularly spiritual fellow.
Naari; the Mother Naari, upon first glance, is a very delicate lemur. She is very poised and proper, and she carries herself with grace, even when climbing through the trees. Although she looks very frail, Naari is able to help provide for her family through the work that she does. The female lemur crafts various sorts of jewelry and perfume that she then gives to her husband to sell. Her work is a passion that she has had ever since she was a young girl, and she is quite good at it. Despite her work, Naari was always there to take care of Tomte when she was growing up, and she is known for being both a good mother and a very loving wife.
Tomte's Thoughts on Naari - Tomte cares for her mother very much, and will do whatever she can to help her. Growing up, she had a special bond with her mother, and would always watch as Naari crafted a new piece of jewelry or made a new bottle of perfume. Although Tomte doesn't live the same lifestyle as her family any longer, she aspires to be as kind and as loving to other lemurs as her mother was to her. Occasionally, she will go home to visit her mother to check in on how things are doing, as well as to provide spiritual guidance.
Naari's Thoughts on Tomte - Naari is very proud of her daughter and the lifestyle she has went into. Like Anmol, she would have preferred if Tomte stayed and continued on with the family business, but she knows that her child had to go out and do her own thing. She wasn't going to stop Tomte and her dream, as she knew it meant the world to her to do what she is doing now. Naari also cares for her daughter very much, and even goes so far as to send her a care package once a week. These packages include some simple supplies such as her little packages of her favorite foods, as well as a handwritten note for her to read. Naari also appreciates Tomte's visits and her spiritual guidance very much.
Panna; the Grandmother Panna is Tomte's grandmother and the mother of Anmol. She is the matriarch of the family, and seems to be very wise and knowledgeable about many things. Panna is also different from both Anmol and Naari in that she is very spiritual. She prays to the Gods and the spirits every day and goes to make pilgrimages to the Grandmother Tree to make offerings and to speak with the various clergy. When Tomte was born, Panna was the other that took care of the young lemur the most, aside from Naari. Tomte's grandmother stepped in where Anmol should have been.
Tomte's Thoughts on Panna - Out of all of her family members, Tomte has the greatest respect for Panna. Her grandmother taught her everything that she knew about the Gods and the spirits, up until she finally decided to become a monk on her own. Tomte considers her grandmother to be her guiding light and one of her biggest influences. She treats her grandmother with the utmost respect and views her in very high esteem. Due to this, Tomte regards the elderly very highly, and will not stand for anyone talking poorly about her grandmother or other elderly lemurs in general.
Panna's Thoughts on Tomte - Unlike Tomte's mother and father, Panna couldn't be more proud of the lifestyle that her granddaughter went in to. In Panna's mind, the life of a monk is the most meaningful and respectful jobs, even higher than some of the True Nobles that rule over them. Panna is fully supportive of her granddaughter, and stands up for her when defending her against Anmol. She wishes her son would be more supportive of her granddaughter, but since he isn't, she has decided to help Tomte in whatever means necessary. The two of them have a loving, caring relationship.

History Tomte's History Tomte was born into a priviledged life of a wealthy merchant family of the noble class. Her father, Anmol, is a prominant merchant while her mother, Naari, is an artisan who crafts jewelry and perfume. Panna, Anmol's mother and Tomte's grandmother, also lives with the family. The group of lemurs lived a life of priviledge, and Tomte had everything that a young girl could ever dream of in the life of the noble class.
Yet it didn't seem to be enough. All of the material goods and fineries that they had in their home as a member of the high class never seemed to satisfy Tomte. Sure, they were nice, and they were pretty to look at, but that was about it. The young girl didn't yearn for these things or long for them, nor did she want to continue on with the family legacy. Her father and mother certainly wanted to, but not Tomte. The lemur turned herself inward to a more spiritual calling from a young age, mostly due in part to her grandmother. Panna taught her all that she needed to know about the spirits and the Gods. The elderly lemur even took her on outings to the Grandmother Tree when she went to see the monks and pay her respects. This was Tomte's first glimpse of the life of the clergy.
She was hooked on it ever since. As an adolescent, she knew that the lifestyle of a member of the clergy was for her. She was determined to become a monk, one of the influential members of the religious lifestyle. With her mind set to it, that was all it took. No matter how much her mother and father tried to talk to into taking over the family business, nothing work. A rift grew between Tomte and her father, and finally Tomte had reached her goal, going so far as to move out of the Tree of the Sun and into the Grandmother Tree to start her new life.
Tomte is content with where she is now, and satisfied that she has renounced the lifestyle of privledge and materialism. Her lifestyle now is everything that she could have wanted, and she is grateful that she can help other lemurs in need. Tomte now prays multiple times daily and performs various rituals throughout her day. She also uses her role as a monk to act as a spiritual consultant to others. One day, she even hopes on becoming a Shaman. It is the highest goal that she currently aspires to.

This looks great! It's so thorough and I can tell you'll play her really well. I do need to say though that Shaman probably won't be available without RP very often if at all--so you may want to just start out questing a general Religiously-oriented character and get her up to Shaman eventually and get the new Shaman art then, and the special as-yet-to-be-revealed role symbol smile

Ooooh, okay~
So that's how that works!
<333
I'll just set her up as a monk, then, which is no problem! Hopefully, later on, she can become a shaman.

Everything was tweaked!
I think I went through and changed all the mentioning of shaman to being a monk.
I also put being a shaman as the biggest goal that Tomte currently aspires to.
Feel free to look over everything again, and let me know what you think.
