Jai slowly made his way out of the classroom, his mind reeling from the hour long lecture the Professor had just given. Man, had that been a long lecture on Muggle studies. He was a bit surprised to hear some of the other students grumbling about stupid muggles. Why was everyone always putting them down? So what if they didn't have magic? He found it rather sad himself.

He slipped past two students that had stopped by the door and slide out into the hall. Why didn't people just move instead of stopping and clogging up doorways? He had noticed other kids do this before and it was rather annoying when one had to slip past people.

Especially when he had crickets in one's pocket. He rather hoped they were still alive and kicking, as his tarantula's Azura and Booker preferred their food to be lively when they ate. He slide a hand into his pocket to check on them. The crickets started chirping and moving around under his hand which made him smile. Perfect!

Jai as a bit surprised to find a crowd of Gryffindor's standing outside the door looking scared. Why were they just standing around? Had something happened? He grew concerned when the other kids saw him and shot dirty looks at him.
"What happened?" He asked, his hand starting to shake slightly.

"Well..one of your spiders got loose somehow, it freaked out one of the girls in the common room and before one of us could catch it, some kid drop kicked it out of the door. We did look around, but we couldn't find it anywhere." One of the kids told him.

Jai nearly had a panic at the news. He clenched his chest and took several deep breathes before he asked, "Was it the blue or the ringed one?"

"Umm..no one wanted to go in there to check, " the kid replied uneasily.

Jai had heard enough. He ran into the common room past the gaggle of girls and skidded to a halt when he came to the doorway of his dorm room. He glanced around at the floor carefully before he went any further. If one of the spider's had gotten out then it was likely some of his other pets could have gotten out as well. Though he rather suspected that one of his roommates had tried to look at them closer and had accidentally let his spider out.

When he didn't see any of his jewel beetles, his praying mantis, salamander, Madagascar whistling cockroaches, his blue eyed cicada out he walked into the room and over to his trunk where he kept his pets in their cages. The lid was drawn up, which was not how he had left it. Someone had definitely messed with them. Jai frowned at this.

He was relieved to see that Booker, his tarantula was safely tucked away in his cage. He dropped several of the grasshoppers into his cage and then looked at Azura's cage. The cage door was slightly open and there was no sign of the blue peacock tarantula. He let loose a deep breath and frowned.

He fed his other pets before he grabbed Azura's cage and made his way out of the gryffindor House with a determined look on his face. Now he just had to hunt Azura down, just how far could a Tarantula go?

Pretty far, actually!

It was late in the day, but there was still some time left before supper was served. With other students still in class for another hour or two, there was little to do at this time of day. Jasper didn't have anything planned for the evening, so he supposed the proper thing to do was to take this time to do his homework... He also needed a wash, of course, and then there was the matter of finding something fitting to wear to supper. He couldn't go in his school clothes, after all- not if he had the time to clean up!

Jasper was considering just how much time he could consume when, just a few feet ahead, something rather large scurried across the stone floor and into a nook in the wall. Not being a particularly large fan of things that scurried, the Slytherin hopped backwards, covering his mouth with his hand to suppress a shriek. Quickly, so as not to lose sight of the creature, Jasper glanced around to see if there were any witnesses to his embarrassment. Other than a few students gathered at the archway he had entered through, the hallway was abandoned. Now relieved, Jasper could focus on the danger at hand. As it was a fairly narrow hallway, he would have to pass directly in front of the hole. For safety, Jasper drew his wand and trained it at the beast's lair...

"Wingardium Leviosa!"

The creature was vaulted several feet into the air, where it hung, wriggling its little legs in an attempt to escape. It wasn't Jasper's fault! The creature had darted out when he had passed by and... well, it had startled him! He was only acting in self-defense!

Now that he had a better look at it, the creature was even more unnerving. It was clearly some sort of arachnid, though Jasper wasn't familiar with the differences between them. He also didn't know whether or not it was poisonous and, well, he didn't want to find out by trial and error! This thing looked positively huge for a spider! What was he supposed to do with this? He couldn't very well release it. What if it was dangerous? Furthermore, Jasper had already made it about halfway to the Slytherin dungeons from his class. How did it even get here?

Jai had been scouring the castle for an hour now. He had checked every nook and cranny that he had seen and still hadn't found Azura. Just where had she gone? He wished that everyone wasn't so squeamish when he asked if they had seen her. It seemed that no one in Hogwarts liked tarantulas because they kept screaming and freaking out when he said she was missing.

At this rate he'd never find her. He was starting to worry that someone would try to squash her or worse. When he found out who had let her out of her cage he was going to get back at them. His poor baby was lost and he was now in panic mode.

He had no idea why the sudden thought to go towards the Slytherin Dorms came to mind. He was nearly half way there when he spotted a blonde boy jumping back and holding back a shriek of fear. Was it possible? Had he actually seen her?

Jai made his way over to the boy and was startled when the other cast a spell and Azura was suddenly levitating in the air.

"You found her!" Jai exclaimed happily. "Thank you so much! I've been looking all over for her!" he beamed happily and pulled out his wand.

Jai countered the levitation spell and caught Azura in his right hand, and pet her with his thumb, trying to calm her down. "How can I ever thank you?"

The sudden appearance of the excited boy caused Jasper to yelp. He was again startled when the tarantula fell from the air. He backed away a few steps, staring at the boy and the arachnid, silently wondering why he hadn't dropped and smashed the creature already! It took Jasper a few moments to collect himself and come to the realization that it must have been some sort of pet of his. He knew some people kept spiders and things as pets, but he had never quite understood why. Some insects (and arachnids) were colorful, sure, but they had way too many legs and eyes for Jasper's taste. Plus, they could be dangerous! And, as far as Jasper knew, they didn't do much...

Aside from escape and terrorize him, of course!

"That's your pet?" Jasper asked, giving the other boy a look of barely-veiled disgust. "Shouldn't you be keeping better track of... her? You know, keeping her in a cage or something?"

Jai colored slightly at the other boy's disgust and derisive comment. "She was in a cage, one of my stinking roommates opened her cage and let her out when I was in class." He sighed heavily and glanced down at Azura.

His poor girl was still distraught from being dangled in mid air by the other's spell. He pet her gently on her back and cooed at her to help calm her down. When Azura got disgruntled or annoyed she often would bite. Thankfully though, she wasn't too ruffled. He put her on his right shoulder and pet her with his left hand gently.

"Poor Azura, you've had a rough day haven't you? Don't worry I'll get you nice tasty cricket." He crooned softly.

He stopped and glanced over at the other boy for a moment. He still looked disgusted which annoyed Jai greatly. "She's not vermin if that's what you're thinking. She's a rare blue peacock tarantula from India. It took me forever to find her."

Jasper shuddered again when the other boy put the tarantula on his shoulder- and then pet her like she was some sort of bizarre shoulder-sitting dog! It was only then that he noticed that this other boy was a Gryffindor. Of course he was a Gryffindor. Only a Gryffindor would want a tarantula as a pet...

"Well she may not be vermin, but you'll have to forgive me if I don't see the merits of keeping a tarantula as a pet..." Jasper sniffed, clearly not convinced. "Why, she practically charged after me! She is lucky that her owner cares about her so much, or she may not have made it..."

Jasper whimpered softly as he glanced between the boy and his spider. Okay, so maybe she hadn't exactly hunted him down. Maybe he had accidentally almost stepped on her as they crossed paths... But he was embarrassed! And he definitely wasn't going to admit that!

Jai couldn't help but notice the other's reaction to his spider. He was rather sympathetic towards the other, knowing fully well the feeling of fear towards an animal. He was rather fearful of cats, mostly because he had been bitten by one when he was young. And it seemed rather natural since cats were the primary enemy of his pets.

"All is forgiven," Jai said soflty. "You did save her from escaping and living in the castle for months without proper food or care. She might have even been killed if you hadn't found her. "

He couldn't help but frown when the other boy said that she had charged after him. That really didn't sound like her. It was really against her nature, but he was sure it was just the other kid's fears that convinced him of that.

Jai reached out and patted the other on the shoulder. "No worries, I'll get her in her cage and she won't bother you anymore. Is there anything I can do to thank you?"

Jai's sharp hearing picked up the fact that the other had whimpered. Man..this other kid must have some horrid fear if he was reacting in such a way. Perhaps it would be smarter to help him get over his fear of spiders.
"Perhaps you'd like help getting over your Arachnaphobia?" He asked gently.
