Hakari and I are planning some sort of questing system for obtaining higher level lanturns.
Now, I am not entirely sure what questing entails in an RP setting (forgive me), so I wanted to ask everyone for their input before I solidify anything. What would you like to see? What would you not? Do you even like the idea of quests?
(...And if someone is involved in a shop with quests, could you please fill me in? I'm confused *cough*)

Please leave a comment! All ideas and advice are welcome. We just want to make this a fun experience for everyone.

I think that's a great ideas. I've seen that before. Where you like RP a quest.

I think if like Sinn or Bumby came to respective lanturn owners, and asked them to retrieve something.....anything, ya know an item or scroll or another lanturn...um they could send them out in groups and they RP there adventure. And of course the shop owners would drop in and add events or things like that to make it more interesting. Something like that whee

But that'd be cool^^

I love the idea of quests 3nodding

It'd be nice if there's also quests between two or three lantern spirits *thinks* Maybe they have to work together to complete the quest

For a start it'd mean lantern spirits would have to work together which could lead to some interesting results.

More than three people on a quest would probably not work though since there's timezone differences etc etc to think about

Edit: And it would encourage lantern spirits to meet others xd

Well I'm really starting to like the idea of team quests. As for time differences, maybe people could just set up an extra thread and do it more slowly. We'll see...

If you are going to go the team quest route, you also run into the issue of dividing the profits. 3 people questing for one lanturn or item can get very ugly. You'd have to find a way to divide things even & fairly. Also, lanturn levels may play a part in this. Higher level lanturns might have missions that are too "dangerous" for those level zeros which are fresh out of their lanturns.

I would prefer the option of individual quests as well (for those of us on the other side of the globe who often miss out on RP bc of time zones).

((actually I think it works well even when ppl are in othe time zones because then you can get to posting whenever you get a chance. And you just take turns. But that'd work especially well for two ppl. Three ppl would be okay. But I can't imagine that really working for four or more. hmm))

Kalei's got a point about having to divide the profits on team quests, though ways it could work could be like the following:-

1. At the end of the team quest everyone gets a lantern or whichever the item they were questing for

2. One person gets a lantern and the other two get a bonus amount of Geisen

And group quests could always be tailored to lantern spirits - i.e. 'dangerous missions' not being given to level zero lantern spirits, though since if I remember right level 3 lantern spirits are only around 12, there's probably some things they could do with level zero lanterns still since if I remember right level 0s are a child's age.

Individual quests would rock too though 3nodding

The quests would be only for 3rd or 4th level spirits going for 4th level lanturns and each spirit would be looking for their own lanturn to avoid those problems. As for whether it would be team or individual, that's up to you.

Yay! This is exciting. I thought of a great idea (hopefully)

Onward! More suggestions!

Well I'm RP manager for two stores and control a custom-designed battle system in one of them so my skills at running quests both for the individual and groups are extensive - I don't mean to blow my trumpet but being able to control three teams of six all at once as well as directing them all towards certain goals is a feat in my eyes.

Nevertheless I would advise the following:-

Individual Quests
These quests are designed specifically for one being, they rely heavily on the interaction of NPCs to proceed and the DM/GM must know absolutely everything they can (through ooc information) about the individual they're questing. I say this because it's only with this information that the DM/GM will have the ability to truly test the individual in question.

In these quests you can really help to develop a person's character so always have them reasonably detailed and significant in some way to the character (whether it be to receive money, items or a lanturn).

It also tests how well a person sticks to the personality set in their character so make sure to pose problems to them that they would be good at AND bad at so that you can detect how well they're played - the more realistic they are to the responses the better the results.

These quests can be long or short but should never be placed under time constraints as time zones make this impossible.

Also, try to use familiar settings such as the back alleys of Durem or Barton - the more familiar a person is the more detailed and extensive their responses are. Only start to introduce them to new worlds when they're used to how you RP and the style of your writing.

The Multiplayer
These are by far my personal favourite, alongside testing each individual character upon their strengths and weaknesses you're also able to challenge them as teams and thus the responses are even greater than those who can be attained by a single player campaign.

As noted above you should ALWAYS have individual prizes/bonuses for each participant or some people may become snippy - human nature denotes that few will do something for nothing.

Also, take care only to introduce them to familiar scenary at first, new places cause misunderstandings amongst the RPers and lead to confused and often lacking responses. Try to keep them in scenary such as Durem until they're used to one another as well as you and then try and extend into greater areas.

Multiplayer quests are GREAT for extensive metaplot campaigns and are a wonderful way for people to meet one another in situations that they would otherwise never experience.

Most multiplayer quests run without time constraints and are 'epic', they're very long so be prepared to plan it out before you start and allocate certain NPCs to certain locations. These quests eventually lead to greater things or more 'obscure' and dangerous locations - thus they're viewed as some of the hardest and big rewards are usually sought in return.

I'm sorry I can't be of more help but everyone has their own styles so I can only give a brief outline of the various types involved. ^^
