High Concept Aspect: "I am Vengeance, I am Justice"
Due to his spoiled upbringing, Kusari missed out on many of the horrors that people suffered in the Rukongai district. Once he saw them though, he learned his true purpose. He would protect those who could not protect themselves and put a stiff boot into the eye of anyone who dare harm the less fortunate. He submerged himself in street fighting and transformed himself completely.

Unfortunately for Kusari, this higher purpose comes first. He doesn't take to authority well now that the rank structure has fallen. And he meets opposition from others with a sharpened blade and a heavy fist. This makes it hard for people to trust him, because he is often seen as a loose cannon. In the end it comes out to whether or not his reputation for leaving a high body count in his wake is worth his mouthing of and lack of courtesy.

Kusari measures everything in might. If you're his better in a field, he will respect you in that field, but if he finds out that he is better than you in any one field, its over, he will try to turn all actions towards whatever makes him shine the most or benefits him. Thats right, he is a pride chasing, self centered, vigilante ... and yet somehow he is a "good guy."

Background: Where Did You Come From?
Kusari grew up in the inner rings of Soul Society's Rukongai. He was living the high life, rich and powerful. Initially, he only became a Shinigami because he wanted the adventure in his life. He signed on with squad five and began to train in the ways of kido. He was sent on a mission to the Rukongai where he got the complete and utter s**t beat out of him.
He began to train in martial arts after that, becoming a master in the ways of the fist, and requested another mission to the Rukongai. He faired well this time, but not well enough. He continued to train until he got another mission to the Rukongai, this time he kicked a**. That moment always rings in his mind when he things about how impossible things seem.

Rising Conflict: What Shaped You?
A year after that event, a band of robbers went into the inner rings of the Rukon. They ransacked a lot of homes and even killed a few souls. By the time Kusari got on scene it was to late, his soul family was slaughtered, his home was wrecked, and everything he ever knew was burning in front of him. Squad five put out the flames, but nothing was salvageable. His mothers necklace and wedding ring, his sister's ring, and his father's wedding band were recovered. But the money was gone, his home was gone, and most of all, his family was gone.
Kusari fell into a world of alcoholism for a long time. He got in bar fights, he became scum in most people's opinions, but he still did his job better than most.
