THE CHUNIN EXAMS


People gather in the main arena as 36 young ninja stand in the middle, ready to graduate on to the next level.

The Otokage, the Mizukage, the Tsuchikage, the Fire Daiymo's representative, all sit gathered upon seats overlooking the main arena.

The annoucer began to speak:
"Welcome one and all to this years Chunin exams. Today we have representatives from nearly every major ninja village, and several smaller ones as well. First off we have The team from Kirigakure, and we are so happy to be in their lovely country in this beautiful arena that was funded by the collaborative efforts of many villages. We also have Sunagakure, Konohagakure, Iwagakure, Otogakure, Tsukigakure, Takigakure, Amegakure, and Kumogakure here with ninja ready to advance."
"There will be three parts to this exam. A survival challenge first to route out the weak. Only eighteen of our contestants will make it out of that challenge. Next comes the one on one fights! We will go through two rounds of fights for everyone. The four with the highest scores will advance to the Team battle round, along with their teams. Then the team battles will commence and we will pick from our top contestants who we think deserves the rank. Whilst we do that we will administer a written exam in order to determine which teams deserve it. If any one member of the team fails, none of them will advance. Because being a chunin is a symbol that you know how to cover your weak points, even if that weak point is your teammate." There was a slight pause before he continued, "And now, with our opening speech and some words of encouragement, Hadara, Takasugi, the newly appointed Mizukage!"

Taka stepped up to a microphone on the Kage podium and said, "I would like to welcome everyone, competitors and spectators alike, to the Village Hidden in the Mist for this years Chuunin Exams. All Genin who have entered have proven their worth, and right to be here. I would like to wish the best of luck and safety to those participating. Remember the eyes of two Hidden Village Leaders are upon you." Taka gave a knowing look to the leader of the Hidden Sound Village who sat in a seat next to him. "As well as the noblemen of many other nations. Do your best, for the honor of both you, and your village."Taka said with slight smile, before returning to his seat.


After that the announcers voice came back. "Contestants! Please make your way to the forbidden island to begin the survival challenge."

Chunin Exams: Petal Arena

Main Arena: The Mesquite Arena
In the competition, Iwagakure won the rights to have the largest arena.
This large arena is 600 feet in diameter, and filled with softened sand and heavy rocks.
Special Effect: Earth Jutsu in this arena can be used for 75% of the normal CP Cost due to the earth being easy to manipulate.

Ame- Pitcher Plant Dome
A domed arena with a sprinkler system. Unfortunately for the audience, most of this arena is covered by trees, and the middle section is much deeper than almost ever arena save for Kiri's. On the inside its dark and wet, but like still penetrates the canopy.
Special: +2 to Stealth checks in trees due to cover, -2 to dodge on the ground due to mud.

Kumo- Bengel Tiger Conna Dome
This arena is insanely bright. There are coils routing the electricity all over the ceiling, lightning jutsu make the lights brighter ... until they explode.
Special: The count begins with a -4 to all awareness rolls, but every Lightning attack aimed at the ceiling makes it worse by -1. (Explodes at -8 )

Taki- Baccopa Dome
An underground dome that is pitch black. Fighters are represented electronically on boards, via heat sensing technology. Its nearly impossible to see here.
Special: Fire and lightning jutsu illuminate the room, removing the penalty. But otherwise, people get a -5 to attack, -5 to dodge, and -5 to awareness when in this dark arena.

Kusa- Grass Field
They misunderstood the theme apparently. This field is simply a grassy knoll covered in wildflowers. Encased in a glass barrier ... its a little stuffy in here.
Special: POISONOUS WILDFLOWERS! Fortitude DC 14 to resist the toxin. Once breathed it will do -4 hp per turn. Further failures will do an additional -2. The only cure is waiting outside of the arena, unless you have something that removes poisons.

Kiri- Lilly Pad Arena
The pride and joy of Kirigakure. This arena is comprised of several floating platforms. Each is about 7 feet in diameter, spread across this 200 foot arena. Beneath them is a basin of the dark and murky waters of Kirigakure.
Platforms are treated as having 40 hp a piece. They can be destroyed. The Arena starts with 20 platforms. The water is approxamately 60 feet deep.
Special: Water Jutsu cost 50% of normal CP due to the abundance of water.

Suna- Cactus Arena
Chaos! So many things are going on in this sand filled arena. Giant fans are blowing sand around the arena. The walls are lined with sharp spikes. Not to mention, the sand makes it hard to see.
Special: Lose 1 hp per turn due to sandstorm. Successful blow into the wall adds 5-14 damage to your attack due to spikes. This goes for most wind jutsu, and grapples. -5 to awareness if you are not a Sunagakure local.

Oto
ITS LIKE A ROCK CONCERT IN HERE! SPEAKERS IN EVERY CORNER OF THE ARENA BELLOWING OUT THAT TECHNOTRONIC STUFF THAT THE KIDS LIKE THESE DAYS! IT MAKES MY HEAD HURT JUST THINKING ABOUT IT!
Special: Deafened: -4 to related rolls (awareness), cannot speak outside of Innuendo checks. DC 10 Fortitude check to resist becoming dizzy (-6 to all attack, reflex, and dodge rolls)

Konaha
A stone arena bathed in a prismatic fluid. When touched by a lightning or fire jutsu, they increase damage. When touched by water, it washes away.
Special. Arena is sloped, all liquids sink to the middle. it is up to the DM if your water jutsu had enough to wash away the oil.
Any fire or lightning jutsu used will do extra damage (1.25x for lightning, 1.5x for Fire) to EVERYONE in the match. This can be negated as the oil is diluted/washed away, or as fire/lightning jutsu use up the oil.

8 Lightning jutsu
Water jutsu is at DM discretion based on amount of water produced.

Haku stepped into the arena looking around, "Let's get this over with so I can go back home." She couldn't wait to defeat whoever was her challenger. Hopefully it was someone to pose a challenge against her. She'd hate to kill the b*****d in the first attack. No matter, she had her combo she could always turn to. After all, not many people could survive it once they were set afire. She moved her headband, as it was digging into her groin. "If it keeps riding up I swear I'll have to move it." She was hoping it would be someone from another village. She wouldn't like to take her anger out on someone she didn't know.

Batsu jumped down from the stands and immediately rushed to the center of the arena. He took a look at his surroundings and then looked at his opponent as she fidgetted with her band. The boy immediately grabbed his bow from off of his back and held it in his hand, ready to go. Outside of sparring, this was his first actual fight alone. To add even more pressure, his family was watching. Theu were all curious to see just how well he would do with very little genjutsu knowledge that he possessed. In all honesty, they expected very little from him.

Haku decided to not let the boy have the upper hand. If she was going to intimidate him and get this over with, she'd start and not stop. She jumped forward with her katana, giving him a quick cut across both arms and went for a third to a leg. If she could keep close to him, he would be at a disadvantage. She still had yet to use her rain technique, but she would save that for later. Besides, she had to show off to her audience.

Katana
The katana is the most artistic and well-crafted sword in the world. The curve of the katana's blade allows the user to draw the sword at a faster speed than any other sword created by man. The sword itself is both hard and light and can cut through almost anything with ease.
Damage: 4 - 12 + 1.5x str. mod.
Range: Melee.
Special: Always a master work item, so +2 to attack roll and damage per roll. Causes a Bleeding Wound upon a critical hit. +4 to blocking checks.
Dual Wield: Yes, -10 to attack roll. Calculate damage with 1x str mod.

4 - 12 + 1.5x Str. Mod (10) + Skill (8 - 16) + 2 = 29 - 45

Total Damage: 35 x 3 = 105

Well damn, the first attack of the battle and the girl is out for blood. Batsu knew he was in a world of trouble if this kept up. So he had to switch the battle to his favor. First thing he did was he went straight into his genjutsu. Hopefully it would hold her for a while and weaken he, but if she was this strong mentally as she was physically then he was fighting a losing battle. As he tried to get her in genjutsu, the boy went into hiding behind a tree. He had to get out of sight or else he was done for.

Haku felt the disturbance in her chakra and quickly dismissed the attempt to attack her mind. Did he think her dumb? Not only that, but he tried to run off and hide, as if her eyes were closed. "Haha, look at the boy trying to hide from his attacker. Please, it'll take a lot more than that to hide from me!" Haku then began making handseals to perform her combo. From the look of things he wouldn't be able to take much more and she at least wanted to show off her combo. "Please tell me you have more than that!"

s**t, he was found and now he was in danger. He had to think as fast as he could about staying alive... something he wasn't used to doing. Well, he had to stay alive somehow. Batsu started to heal himself and immediately went to make clones afterwards. If he was gonna do something then she'd better find the real him first.
