 The summer sun hung high in the sky and shone brightly, the light glittering off his golden scales and markings. If it wasn't for that he'd blend in well and not alert predators, but he made up for that by being a formidable foe and soon predators learned to leave him and his well enough alone.
Huang Jinhai made his way down a steep rocky slope toward a cool pool of water. He lowered his head and took a quick drink, his head shooting up quickly to check his surroundings. He snorted and shook out his mane before continuing down the slope into the refreshing shade of the forest.
Stretching out his legs, Huang trotted around the trees and kicked up his heels with delight. He soon came to a clearing and tossed his head up letting out a loud trumpeting bellow, warning other males that this was his land.

 Andromeda had left Australe sleeping beneath their tree early this morning so that she may go on a walk, and clear her head like she normally did. Lately the nightmares had gotten worse and following them her walks became more frequent. She hadn’t realized just how long she had been gone until the sun began beating mercilessly down on her dark coat. Her sensitive eyes began to hurt and so she found refuge under a distant tree, lying hidden in the shade beneath its expansive canopy of green. The day was marvelous but often on days like this she would need to take a break in order to recuperate and become more accustomed to how bright it was. She had begun to doze off listening to the gentle breeze when the sound of a male caused her head to snap up.
He was trumpeting his challenge, letting any intruder know that this was his place to defend. Her ears flicked this way and that as she tried to gauge from which direction it had come and how far away it was. Bringing herself to a stand she flicked the dirt and leaves from her tail, she knew she would have to vacate soon. The last male she had encountered had gotten very mean about his territory, forcing her out of his land. Stepping out into the sun she found herself blinking and attempting to make out her surroundings. She had not yet acclimated to the brightness and it was showing. Stopping her walk she looked around her a bit frantically, but still managing to keep her head.
In the distance she noticed something golden approaching, she found herself mesmerized by the color. It was so bright and rich that at first she thought it was a piece of the sun that had fallen to the earth. When her vision began to clear she noticed it was a male, and likely the one who she had heard earlier. “I’m sorry, I shall leave presently.” She called out apologetically.

Huang Jinhai had caught sight of the lovely mare as soon as she stepped out into the clearing. She appeared to be dazed as she seemed hesitant. Concern fluttered in his chest and he moved towards her. His movement belied his power as his muscles rippled along his smooth coat which was also fairly dark but not as beautiful as the mare's.
The glint of his scales must has caught her attention for she looked right at him and seemed even more dazed. His presence seemed to have a different affect on her and he sensed something that caused her to want to flee his presence.
"Do not fear me. I will not hurt you and you may be here if that is what you desire. But I sense that this light is distressing you as well as myself. Please, come back into the forest and rest yourself."
His words came out gently and like honey, but also bespoke of his power and confidence in himself and his abilities. No harm would come to her while she was near him. He would make sure of that. He strode back into the forest, his stride long and elegant. He turned slightly and gazed at her under the cover of the trees.
"My name is Huang Jinhai and I am the protector of this land. And if I may be so bold, you are most lovely."

She had begun walking away slowly when she heard his voice. Her ears flicked back as she listened to him speak, surprised by his delicate tone. Turning about she faced him with slightly squinted eyes and an embarrassed smile. “I apologize for my hastiness; I did not know how you would react to having me trespass.” Seeing him turn and head back toward the shade of the trees she began to follow, taking careful steps. “I thank you for your hospitality; my eyes have been sensitive to intense light ever since I could remember.”
Finally she made her way into the shade beside him, getting her first good look at this benevolent stallion. Her shimmering eyes widened ever so slightly as she looked him over. No wonder why he had shined so wonderfully, his body was covered in gilded scales and markings. After the realization that she had been gawking hit her she cleared her throat and made eye contact. “My name is Andromeda; it is a pleasure to meet you Huang Jinhai.” She smiled delicately at the compliment feeling her cheeks growing warm. “Thank you very much, you are quite charming.”
Even though she had just barely met him she couldn’t help but to notice how handsome he truly was, and taking note of the wonderful first impression he was giving. She had met many wonderful males during her time here, as far as she could remember that was, but there was something different about this one. Call it the summer heat but there was warmth within her that flared up whenever he spoke. Shaking out her mane she removed her gaze from him and looked out over his land. “You have quite a lovely kingdom Huang Jinhai.”
