User ImageLouvenia was nearly overwhelmed from all the day's happening. All the shouting, and noise was starting to get on her nerves. You'd think that a school would be quieter than this. She shook her blond head back and forth and pushed her sliding glasses back up her nose and headed towards the one quiet place in the castle. The Library.

Thank goodness for the library. She imagined dire circumstances happening to those that broke the rules in the library. After all, this was a magicking school. She imagined discipline meted out on unruly kids would have their voices taken away, or their mouths magically taken away. She giggled at the imagery, and skipped down the hall towards the library.

She paused a few times during her trip to look at the various paintings and watch the subjects walking around. She still found it odd to see them walking around. She couldn't help but wonder if there were any magical photos of her parents stashed away somewhere. When she got home for winter break she'd have to ask her Uncle about that. She still missed them, and still experienced the pain of loss. They had died three years before in a horrible building fire and hadn't managed to get out. She often wondered had happened to keep her father from using his magic to get free. Perhaps her mother had gotten stuck and he couldn't have gotten her out. And rather than live life without her he decided to die with her.

She shook her head sighing at the depressed thought and stopped in front of the library doors to look them over. Man..were they huge! They had to be at least fourteen feet high! She hoped they weren't super heavy, though with the ornate carving on them they appeared to be.

She reached out and pushed on the door and was surprised when it swung open effortlessly. She peered into it and a smile broke out on her face. She inhaled and exhaled slowly, savoring the old musty smell of the old books in the room. She slowly made her way in, taking in the high vaulted ceiling and the shelf after shelf of books that were collected in the room. It was a treasure trove of knowledge! She was definitely never going to grow tired of it.

She bobbed her head at the librarian seated at the front desk and waved to the older lady. The woman smiled slightly and nodded and then went back to the book she had been reading. Louvenia started reading the section titles and moved towards the science section. She was halfway there when she heard a cry echo through the library. Her brow winkled in concern and she went off in search of the source.

She was surprised that the librarian hadn't noticed it.

Today had been absolutely horrible. Anya had been late to class when a Slytherin had tripped her in the Great Hall where she'd managed to land in a pile of spoiled food. It had been magicked so she couldn't get the smell out. Frustrated she'd gone and changed clothes, losing points for her House and earning a detention.

Deciding not to push her luck Anya had skipped lunch and enjoyed the nice afternoon. Every time she entered a hallway the whispers would start. She tried to ignore them but when her friends started going on how funny it'd been she smiled and agreed. She was thankful when the teachers started talking, sure it meant homework but at least the kids got mostly quiet.

Hoping to end the day on a positive note after dinner she'd gone outside only to be met by her father's owl patiently holding a screamer. Knowing that the owl would follow her father's directions that no one else hear it. She followed it a few feet away, near the lake.

Refusing to take it anymore she'd finally escaped to the library in hopes of escaping in a book. She'd found a god one but once she sat down the tears started. she tried to keep them quiet but after a while they shook her body and a loud one escaped. She covered her mouth thinking she'd heard someone but she couldn't stop the tears, her voice shaky she called out. " Hello?" She sat in silence hoping she'd been wrong.

It didn't take her long to find the source of the sob. It was a slightly smaller girl huddled over a table at the back of the library, near the fiction section. Louvenia was going to go away when she saw the tears falling down the girl's cheeks, but then she heard the girl call out in a shakey tone, "Hello?"

Louvenia approached the girl slowly and when she got closer she was surprised to recognize the girl. It was the hufflepuff girl from earlier that day that had gotten tripped by that nasty slytherin boy. Louvenia's hands tightened into fists as she recalled the horrible way the girl had been treated. She had heard people laughing about it in her other classes. She had even heard other hufflepuff kids laughing and joking about it. It infuriated her to the core.

"Are you okay?' She asked gently, sitting down by the girl at the table. "I saw what happened earlier..it was repulsive what the boy did to you."

Anya froze as a voice floated towards her. Crap there was someone around. Watching the girl approach Anya quickly wiped the tears from her eyes and tried to compose herself, failing that, she sniffles as she speaks. She plants a weak smile on her face and nods." I'm okay...They were.. just having a bit of fun..." The words sound flat even to her own ears and she tries again to calm down.

Pretending to wipe her face she holds her breath for a while and slowly lets it out hoping to calm her breathing and stop the tears. " I'm sorry if I've disturbed your time. Usually there's no one here at this time." Anya fidgets and contemplates getting up but fears she'd look stupid so she tries to smile again, this one looking a little better, after all no one likes to be around a whiner, and cry baby.

Taking a few more deep breaths she holds out her dry hand " I'm Charmaine, but please call me Anya." Her breath is still a tad shaky but seems to be getting steadier as she talks " Do you like coming here or want help finding something for class?" After all most prefer to be elsewhere if they can help it.

Louvenia was aghast at the girl's response. Did she actually believe that? She frowned and absently pulled on one of her braids and kept her eyes cast away as the other girl tried to compose herself. When someone got that worked up, there was no way that they were okay with what had happened.

"Well it's not okay what they did. I can't believe the teachers didn't punish him for that. I should tell them that he did it intentionally. Then maybe you'd get some justice."

Louvenia frowned again. "Well it did disturb me, but not in the way you think. I often spend my spare time here." She replied. "It's the quietest place in the castle."

Louvenia took the offered hand and shook it. "Anya it is then. I'm Louvenia Alvesleben. I often come here when I want to get away from the noise in the castle. You'd think with it being a school the teachers would make the kids be quieter.

Anya Took a few more breaths before replying to the girl. Her face was a bit sad from the streaks of tears but they were no longer falling. " I didn't tell the teachers about it, I told them I slipped. No need to tattle on a harmless prank."

She sighed again shaking slightly. " And it's not really what started the water works. But I got it out of my system, I'll be alright now."She smiled reassuringly.

Anya nodded in agreement before the hair in her face distracted her to move it out of her face. " I love coming in here to read. The silence is nice, and the stories are amazing." She barely managed to not ramble on about the stories she'd read." It's nice to meet you Louvenia." There was no way Anya would remember that and would probably shorten it if they talked too much.

The Hufflepuff giggled at Louvenia's assumption. " There's no way with as many people as there are here for it to be too silent." Anya was happy to find a fellow reader, who knew maybe the two could be friends.

Louvenia again found herself frowning. Why was it this girl was such a push over? It wasn't harmless in the least bit. She could have broken her ankle or worse.

"Right, harmless. As if. What if he had tripped you on the stairs? If you don't stand up for yourself they'll keep picking on you. That's how bullies are. The sooner you stand up to them they'll leave you alone."

Louvenia huffed slightly and smoothed out her skirt some more, casting her eyes away as she felt her eyes start getting hard with anger. What made people feel like they shouldn't speak up? She kind of got the feeling that this Anya girl was depressed about something and that was why she had been crying. Or maybe she was just really unhappy about something.

"Well I'm glad to hear it's out. Sometimes a good cry is all you really need." She replied as she fidgeted slightly. "Getting it out of your system can be really cleansing, or so I've heard."

Louvenia was surprised that Anya felt the same way. She wondered what sort of stories the other girl liked to spend time reading. She looked like she might be the type to like romance and possibly fantasy type stories. "So what sort of stories do you like?" She finally asked after a few moments.
"Likewise. If we end up seeing a lot of each other you can call me Venia. That's what my cousin Lothar calls me. I don't really have any friends just yet." Louvenia found herself confessing.

Louvenia shook her head at the other girl's giggle. "Well..it would be nice to have more silent areas in the castle. I'm probably just more sensitive to sound because I was never in any public settings before. My cousin Lothar and I were taught privately at home by a governess."

Anya shook her head and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear before looking at the girl again. " I trip and fall all the time.So one more time isn't that big of a deal. I'm apparently clumsy." The last word actually comes out almost like a sneer. So she does have some spunk in her left, just maybe not enough to stand up for herself yet. " I was told they're just looking for attention and if I ignore them they'll get tired of harassing me."

The Hufflepuff blushed slightly at the mention of her crying but avoided talking about moving on to her favorite stories." Oh I like almost type of book but my favorite genre is Fantasy. Something about far a way places and people intrigue me. What about you? Do you have a favorite Author?" Nothing brought this girl out of her shell then talking about books.

Her eyes got a little big at the mention of a governess. " Wow, I went to a private primary school, but this is much bigger. Not to mention my parents are very sociable and I was expected to be around, so the noise doesn't bother me too much." She bit her lip inwardly as her father's voice echoed in her head all the social rules she was to exhibit and how many of those she was currently failing in.

" Please, sit, if you want to that is." She smiled more shyly this time trying to mentally prepare herself for the girl walking away. After all no one wants to spend time with someone who was over eager.

Louvenia frowned at Anya's excuse. She felt like pulling the other's hair out for being in denial. So what if she was clumsy? She shouldn't make excuses for the bloody jerk who had tried to hurt her.

"What idiot told you that? If a bully finds someone who will just take it and not do anything about it they'll just keep doing it. I should know, I've had that happen to me before. Just taking it doesn't work. It just makes them think they have power over you."

Louvenia could see her talking about crying hadn't really helped the other. It more or less had embarrassed and made her uncomfortable. She should have thought that over a bit more. She was relieved that the other girl had changed the subject and started talking about her favorite type of books.

"I like Fantasy stories as well, but my favorite would be mysteries. My favorite author would be Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, I love his Sherlock mysteries." Louvenia replied eagerly.

Louvenia was a bit jealous to hear the other girl speak about the school and her parents. She had always wanted to be around kids when she had been younger, but because her parents were so busy moving she had never gotten the opportunity. "Well I bet that's nice. I wonder if I'll ever get used to it." She said ruefully and started playing with one of her braids.

Louvenia was glad to be invited to sit, her legs had grown a bit tired from standing for so long. She took a seat across from her and settled in. "Well of course I want to sit, standing so long tires me out."

Anya wanted to shrink at the shouting but instead just shrugged. Everyone had their own ways of dealing with bullies and this was hers. Granted the next time it was such a big thing she should tell the teachers but she probably wouldn't.

Anya smiled as the girl talked about her favorites. " Mysteries aren't bad. I'm a fan of Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys." She giggled nervously, what girl enjoyed the mysteries of a boy duo, and it wasn't the same as Sherlock, these were boys not men.

Anya shrugged, she hated hanging around all those adults. " It's not bad, I get to sneak a drink here and there." Yea she totally had to throw out how adult-ish she was normally.

The Hufflepuff was secretly excited on the inside. Could she have just made her first true friend here at Hogwarts. "One would think with all this magic they'd have come up with some way to shorten the distances between classes."

Louvenia found herself slowly calming down. She really didn't know why she had gotten so caught up in talking so loudly. She had noticed the Anya had seemed a bit put off by it. She really did need to remember to not get so loud and so irate. It really wasn't all that lady like.

Louvenia perked up at the mention of Nancy Drew. "I've heard of those, they're American series aren't they? I have yet to start collecting those books. One day I will though." She said with a smile.

"I imagine it could get a bit boring being surrounded by adults and having no one of your age around. What sort of drinks are you sneaking?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. Surely Anya wasn't implying that she was drinking champagne or wine. That stuff tasted nasty! The only reason she knew what it tasted like was because her cousin Lothar had dared her to try them at a party his father had thrown. She still hated him for that.

"I know right? I mean they should be able to create sort of tesseract type of spell. It would be very helpful, especially when the stupid stairs keep moving around on you. I swear one of these days someone's going to fall and get killed on those things!"

Anya nodded. " Yea both of them are, my mom visited over there awhile back and brought me back a couple and ever since I've ordered a few when I had the gold. I could lend you one or two. I've got them back in my trunk!"

Anya just shrugged. " Oh it can be a bit difficult, I know it's made interacting with most my age a tad difficult." She puffed up a bit as she was questioned about the drinks. " Oh there was wine, champagne and clear ones mixed in with soda pop. Those were the best!"

" Oh a Tesseract spell would be AWESOME! Or even something similar to the flu network would do the trick!" Anya was feeling much better now that her mind was off her father and the other things from the day.

Louvenia perked up at this. Perhaps she could borrow one from her sometime. She was rather happy when Anya offered to lend her a couple of them. "Oh I'd love that! And if you want to borrow some of mine, I've got a bunch of mysteries and fantasy books if you like that sort of thing."

Louvenia nodded in understanding. Before she had moved in with her Cousin and his son Lothar, she hadn't been around many kids. She had grown up surrounded by adults and nary a kid in sight. It was tough to not have kids of her own age to be friends with.
"Oh I know. I've had the same experience, before I moved in with Lothar and the D..His father." She replied with a slight blush. She had almost forgotten that she wasn't supposed to mention that Lothar's father was a Duke. Well..she could have said it but she really didn't want people thinking that she was some stuck up rich girl. She wanted to earn things on her own.

"You must be speaking about wine coolers." She said with a smile. "those are pretty good. Though I've not been allowed that much."

Louvenia smiled at the other's excitement. She was glad she had found someone else who had read "A Wrinkle In Time". It was her favorite book, and she thought it was pretty awesome how close actual magic was to what the witches did in that book. "Yes, that would work too." Louvenia replied with a happy grin.

"It's getting stuffy in here, want to go outside?" She asked as a kid sat down at the table across from them. Gosh..didn't people have manners anymore? Seriously why hadn't he at least asked before he had plopped down?

Anya smiled brightly at the girl. "That would be awesome!! I'd love to read them!" She bounced a little in her seat. Nothing cheered her up better then getting to read a lot of new books.

She looked at the girl a tad strangely at her stutter but just nodded having no clue what the girl had been about to say. " I bet you must enjoy having the company! I know I would."

Anya's mind wandered trying to place the name wine cooler with what she'd had. "No it was something clear stirred into a Coke."

Anya was going to discuss books some more when the girl suggested going outside. She paused to think for a moment before nodding. "Sure! That sounds great!" She hopped up from her chair and wiped her face trying to get rid of the salt tracks her tears had left. "Do you mind if we stop at the girl's bathroom before heading out? I'd like to rinse my face."

Louvenia was rather proud of how quickly she had cheered the other Anya up. It hadn't taken too much of her time either. And now she had a hufflepuff as a friend. She wasn't sure if she should consider Anya a friend yet though, as they had only known each other a little more than an hour. Though the other girl seemed really keen on being friends.

"I suppose I can bring some out for you to look over later on if you're interested. It's too bad you can't come in my dorm room. It would make things much easier." She complained fidgeting slightly in her seat.

A smile lite up her face and she nodded at Anya's comment about enjoying the company. "Yes, Lothar is a lot of fun. I'll have to introduce you to him sometime soon. You might like him."

Louvenia got up from her chair and glanced around the room. It was even more packed than it had been before. "Good, it's getting warm in here." She said and cast a glance over at Anya and saw that the other girl really did need to wash up her face. Her eyes had dry crusty stuff around them and her nose wasn't much better. Louvenia was nice enough not to mention it.
"Sure, we can do that. I could use some freshening up myself."
