THE TEUFEL FESTIVAL

A festival or gala is an event, usually and ordinarily staged by a local community, which centers on and celebrates some unique aspect of that community and the Festival.

Welcome to the Teufel Town annual festival, where schools and other civilians gather and celebrate the founding of Teufel Town on June 22nd, 1915. Dozens of schools from around Apple District gather in tandem to showcase their crafts, skills, and other information about areas in Teufel Town. Certain students gather their numbers and register a float to the Teufel Festival parade, as well, and some schools even have numerous floats to represent their town's immense diversity.

While many schools gather in numbers, some schools further display their school pride by giving their students badges. Collect yours for the special occassion!

SOME INFORMATION

You can play as many characters as you would like in this ORP, just be sure that you can handle them all. Also be sure that the characters you are playing are either your quest characters or your puella magi, or a civilian you've submitted to the roster, though they do not have to be accepted.

Starting at 6:00 PM PST, we will transition into another hour all the way up until 12:00 at midnight, and will describe specific events that happen such as the parade, when certain booths close, et al. The hour will change every 2-3 days. At the front of every tag, please be sure to specify whom and where you are at!

If you have a character entered into Devil's Day, there will be a specific announcement made where they will disappear at 11:00 PM, but it will not correspond with when the meta starts OOCly (June 25th). Please feel free to play them before then in this ORP, though.

Thank you for reading, have fun with the ORP, and be sure to look at the list of things to do below!

HOUR ONE
6:00 PM

Civilians are flooding in by the thousands, it seems, and there are a trace of parade members trickling into the visitor's center nearby to prepare for their big day. The food stands near the pier are lofting with the sweet scent of feast, and a curious group of circus members are still setting up camp nearby the fireworks lounge.

Music from the festival has been playing for a few minutes, now, and the surrounding band in the Big Belle's lounge, now temporary auditorium, is bursting with music. Nearly every school from Apple District is showcasing their music tonight, and there's an audience to follow. First off, as always, is the Teufel Town school annex's gigantic band, which has traditionally always been the great catalyst and tail end of the Teufel Festival.

Students that volunteered for the talent groups nearby the historical museum are also just now crowding in to prepare their booths, and teacher and parent volunteers are gathering their numbers to hand students their badges. The buses and cars that dropped you off are in the parkway a few blocks ahead, and it's always a show to watch thousands of students parade into the festival grounds.

It's only been a few minutes and it's already incredibly congested, as always, but it's time to find your friends and have fun!

(( Meilei - Sidewalk on a Crowd Control Barrier ))

On the parade grounds, the weather was hot but a cool breeze passed through and heralded the lower temperatures that would be coming in only a few short hours when the sun began to sink below the horizon. The crowds were thickening quickly and the groups of students filing togehter with their parent/teacher supervisors were keeping a close eye on things until they were certain everyone was accounted for.

A dark skinned girl with vibrant blonde hair hurried away from the busses and deeper into the crowd, a content look upon her make up covered face. Pale lipstick and eye shadow, glitter spread generously across her cheeks with a small pink heart sticker acting like a beauty mark beneath her left eye. Her attire stood out starkly in this event, even against those who dressed expecting a party. Bright pinks, white lace frills, tons of jelly bracelets on her arms, big gaudy earrings that reached down to her shoulders. Befitting the season, the sixteen year old wore a pair of too-short denim shorts and a colorful camisole that showed a little too much belly.

Without wasting much time, the Taiwanese "ganguro" skipped over to one of the crowd control barriers and climbed upon it, nestling herself comfortably while wrapping her short boots around the vertical bars. Her mismatched knee high socks kept her legs from touching the cool metal but the various charms hanging from her pocket smacked against it loudly before she retrieved the cell phone they were attached to. It was a simple pink flip phone, but overly accessorized to the point of being cumbersome.

Pursing her painted lips and giving a quick glance about at the crowd on the off chance she spotted anyone she recognized as wanting to speak with her, Meilei's amber eyes met the screen of her phone. Clunky painted nails with small gems glued to the tips worked their way across the number pad with practiced ease. To the standard passerby, it would look like a normal texting situation. In truth, the girl busied herself by sorting through her miserably short contact list and fiddling with the various settings the phone had to offer. Occasionally she would whip around and take pictures, but for now she occupied herself in hopeful silence as she waited for the festivities to get fully underway.

(( Sophie - Getting off the bus with Mommy ))

"You didn't leave anything on the bus, did you?" a calm voice came from a woman in her thirties, brown hair tied into a loose but high ponytail as she held onto a small blonde girl's free hand. The child shook her head adamantly, but retained a bright smile as she hugged a stuffed bear close. "Okay, now stay by mommy, Sophie, it's gonna be busy."

The two stepped calmly from the bus, falling in line with the rest of Sophie Binks' third grade class. What set these two apart from other mother-daughter pairs was undoubtedly their striking red eyes which gleamed with a surprising amount of friendliness and charm, particularly those of the whimsical daughter whose wardrobe was nothing short of adorable. A pink graphic shirt with a white heart stenciled upon the chest hugged her torso while a short white tutu hung around her waist. Beneath that was a red skirt that reached about her shins and a pair of pink and white sneakers topped off the ensemble. Her mother was dressed simply in a pair of tan cargo pants covered in grass stains at the knees, black sneakers and a white tank top.

The elementary schooler's eyes lit up once she was able to have a proper look around at the scenery. All of the music surrounding them added to the mystical flare of the event and Sophie's mind began running wild with ideas as to why this particular day was known as "Devil's Day" and why on earth their town celebrated it.

Why, because there really were "devils" about, of course! That was why she had brought her noble steed, Sir Bedivere the stuffed bear and why they would be meeting up with her champion and protector in due time. Giving her mom's hand a gentle shake, Sophie smiled up at her brightly and cooed, "Mommy, do you see Meri?"

Chloe stood on the balls of her feet, craning her neck to see over the crowd and try to spot Meridith's lilac locks, but it was no such luck in their currently cramped group. "Not yet, hun. We'll find her soon," her fingers gently increased their grip upon her daughter's hand and Sophie scooted closer to her mom's leg, grinning happily at her teacher when she heard her name called.

(( Wyatt - Sidewalk, in the crowd ))

Jingling chains and keys sounded through a nearby alley, accompanying the heavy footfalls of sturdy sneakers. A tan young man, about seventeen, rounded the corner into the school district and was met with a sea of people. It was only six o'clock but it seemed everyone had gotten an early start, particularly the schools whose buses were flooding the streets to evacuate their human cargo before finding a proper place far out of the way. A silver chain bracelet hung from his wrist, hitting against the keys hooked onto his belt loop and the chain from his wallet attached to his baggy, torn up jeans. Dark smudges of oil stained his otherwise white wife beater. It was an old work shirt, but it did the trick and would keep him cool during the hot Summer weather today had brought.

Wyatt McKenzie glanced around with a calm but amused grin, green eyes catching a brightly colored girl he recognized from school before she darted further into the crowd and was lost. His strong fingers wrapped around the small knife in his pocket, carried for protection while traversing Downtown Lynn, and he felt a little more at ease in the ocean of bodies. It was a shame he wasn't able to bring his dog, Zeus, along but the German Shepard would have been more trouble than he was worth at an event like this.

It was a yearly event but one that he admittedly didn't attend often. In the past there wasn't enough time or money; things were too busy with school or helping his dad scrape by with funds, but this year things seemed to be going a bit smoother. He had the energy for it this time, the resources, and his dad gave him a hefty pat on the shoulder before he left to assure him things would be alright when he was gone. Wyatt ran from the Lynn District all the way to Apple, utilizing all the shortcuts and safe ways he knew to keep himself out of harms way Downtown and with the current turn out, he could safely say it was worth it.

"Let's get this party started," he grinned to himself, navigating through the throng of bodies that surrounded him. It seemed like most of his school was attending, so seeing at least a few familiar faces was practically guaranteed tonight. Maybe he would have the opportunity to meet some new people too.

(( ??? - towards the bus grounds ))

"Ah, excuse me... I'm sorry... ah--"

A silver-haired girl bumped shoulders with a crimson-eyed woman and stopped immediately in her tracks. She looked up from the ground at the woman before nervously staring at whom she assumed was her daughter, with her eager red eyes and round face-- the girl stepped a few steps back away from the two to give them some space, first, then rubbed the back of her neck absentmindedly.

"O-oh, excuse me," she clasped her hands together and nodded towards the woman in silent greeting, "I, uh... might you have a map... of the fairgrounds?" She wrung her hands tighter around each other and glanced towards the girl again, blushing somewhat-- she wasn't quite used to being so lost, and strange company made her rather uneasy, however friendly their exterior seemed to be.

"I'm... awfully lost, and I'm trying to find my friend. She was supposed to meet me somewhere around here a few hours ago..."

(( Sophie - School Buses ))

At the bump, Chloe's hand gripped her daughter's tighter and she whirled around protectively only to come face to face with a very nervous looking girl with striking green eyes. Letting out a relieved but surprised "Oh!", Sophie's mother rested a friendly hand upon the girl's shoulder and gave a chuckle to the situation. "No problem at all," she shook her head, motherly smile wide despite herself.

At the nervous glance down to Sophie, the third grader looked up in awe at her bright eyes and was immediately captivated. With that hair and eye color, she looked like a mythical enchantress! That was what she would be known as to Sophie, now, whatever her name was the title of Enchantress would forever be attached just as Prince was to Meridith, Queen to her mother Princess to herself. Sophie gasped as the girl explained her predicament and Sophie tucked Sir Bedivere beneath her arm so she could clutch her mother's hand with both of hers, giving it a desperate and pleading shake.

"Hold on, hold on," she laughed, reaching for the small purse hanging from her shoulder and digging in with one hand, "I know I brought one. You won't be lost for long, if I have anything to say about it." Maternal instincts taking over towards the unfortunate school girl, Chloe sifted through her messy pocket book's contents for what felt like minutes until she pulled out the pamphlet map supplied by the school. "Here we go," she chimed joyously and Sophie pitched in an excited "Yay!" for good measure. Holding onto one side, Chloe flipped the pamphlet out towards the ground and unraveled it fully before turning to the girl with it. "See the big red dot? That's the drop off point for the schools. You said she was supposed to meet you here?" A slight frown tugged at Sophie's queen's face when the silver haired girl mentioned "hours". Did she not have any means of contact with her friend?

[[ Meridith - School Buses ]]

Walking along to the event by a different way than her Princess and the Queen was a young looking girl, whose hands were tightly gripped around her messenger bag, and her brows tightly furrowed above a pair of worried looking lavender eyes. It was Meridith, or rather, Prince Meridith, and she had taken it upon herself to take a bus and walk all the way to the grand event without her mother, who was working that night, at home and oddly preoccupied with a pile of papers from her college English class. She bit her lips, looking this way and that, and realized that she was very small compared to the grand displays around her. Balloons were bobbing every which way in the air, people were mulling about, and even while Meri stayed on the sidelines, still pigeon-toed on the side-walk, she was already beginning to feel lost. She glanced around, looking for familiar faces that she was sure to find. After all, she had been told to meet up here with them. They had planned it out over their "royal line" (two paper cups, a string, and a loud voice so that they could talk to each other between their houses).

"Oh..." muttered the Prince worriedly. She looked about, trying to steel her nerves for such an event. It was like a royal ball, she kept telling herself, or the royal games, or perhaps the two combined. These were all pleasant people, their subjects, and there would be dukes and nobles and jesters and...Meri closed her eyes for a moment, imagined the scene and the people, the costumes and the hair, but when she opened her eyes, nothing changed.

A burden weighed heavily on her shoulders, making them slump with the reminder that she wasn't able to do things like that anymore. She wasn't able to pretend. That same burden seeped low over her shoulders, stretching over and into her, grasping at her heart with that dark foreboding feeling of the future, a future without the power of pretend...She took a deep breath, steadying herself, steeling her pout into a line. Pretend or not, she told herself, the world was a world that she could handle. Sophie still believed she was a Prince, and that was all that mattered. Speaking of which, she had to find her Princess.

It was when she heard a tell tale "Yay!" that Meridith's head turned and a brief smile lit up on her face. That was Sophie! She knew the voice of her Princess as easily as she knew her own. Picking up her pace and hopping towards her direction, holding her satchel strap tightly, Meri galloped towards the sound of her voice.

"Princess Sophie!"

[[Tilly - School Buses]]

Rosaline Academy was never short any parent volunteers. There might have been few students in the school, but several of the parents tended to volunteer at any chance given just to see if they were truly getting their money's worth when it came to their child's education.

At that moment, amidst the parent volunteers for Rosaline was a honey-eyed woman with dark hair who was handing out the student badges. Standing next to her was her daughter with far lighter colored hair and eyes that were slightly lighter in color. She had both her hands crossed in front of her pale blue dress with the white pinafore.

The woman eventually paused from her volunteer work to remind her daughter "You should go with the rest of your classmates, Tilly. You need not stay so close to me."

The girl obediently nodded her head and said in an audible tone "Yes, Mum."

With that, the girl began to move forward, separating herself from her mother.

((Ruthie - School Buses))

Her bus smelled of teenager and body spray. Everyone chattered and laughed but the girl in the back seat. Her hair spread wild and dark, and she pressed her fingers against the glass, tracing the sidewalk until it vanished behind moms and dads and students. She wondered if they realized the festival's closeness to summer solstice and considered that the town derived it from ancient practice. These people could easily dress in Viking garb and tote carcasses for roast. Instead, they carried balloons and cotton candy. Students trailed off the bus, but the stench lingered. They seemed so orderly, yet in class, their thoughts turned into chaotic scribbles on notebooks and bathroom stalls.

She yawned. Maybe she should have slept or read. Did she sleep two nights ago? She couldn't remember. The festival threw her off. She could snag coffee or tea somewhere. Certainly the sugar would wake her up, and after all, this only happened yearly. She would resume her schedule tomorrow. She nodded at the driver on her way out. What a strange job--driving others around. Then, you would drive yourself home. She wondered if the bus driver cared more about himself or his passengers. Probably himself, she figured.

The crowd seemed sweet and lively, and she wondered if she belonged with them. She felt so detached. Her classmates scattered amid parents and friends. Maybe she should have brought a book. Vanity Fair, perhaps? That would distract from the festivities, though. She also wanted to "learn by experience". So many people recommended experience that it possibly had merit. Games seemed like an unusual method of gaining wisdom and insight, however. They moved fast and you often won little. She wondered what she would learn from them. Perhaps she could allegorize and apply them to real life.

Ah, too analytical and far too depressing. Just enjoy yourself, she thought. That's why you're here.

(( Kalina Denisova - Sidewalk, near the Food and Craft stands, with her sister Sofiya ))

Kalina wanted to make her way to the playground and carousel as soon as possible, but the crowd was getting bad already. It was so rare that she and her sister got to take part in something really fun like a festival, and looking down at her younger sister Sofiya, she could see the young girl's eyes light up with joy at all the foods and the lights of the rides up ahead.

"Sonya, please stay close to me, okay?" she told her sister, grasping her hand and pulling her closer to her. "I don't want you getting seperated from me."

Sofiya complied easily, and the girls stopped for a moment. Kalina looked around her for her friend Jin Ae, who she had also gone to the festival with. The young Korean girl was awfully quiet and easily seemed to blend into large gatherings of people.
"Jin?" she called out.

"Jin?"

Jin Ae startled into attention, quickly stepping forward to catch up to Kalina, placing a hand on her shoulder carefully."I'm right here..." she mumbled, stepping to Kalina's side so that she wasn't creepily standing behind her anymore.

She stuck her hands in the pocket of her hoodie. "Sorry, I..." Jin Ae began, but trailed off when she realized she didn't have an excuse to not stay within Kalina's sight at all times. "I'm here now," she finished.

Jin Ae looked sideways at the craft tables, wondering what they had. She always loved crafts, especially really handy ones you have to use tools for, like making birdhouses or wireworks. From this distance, and with the thick crowd it wasn't easy to see what was there.

"Kalina, do you think... we could visit the craft tables later tonight?"

((Audrey Starfield -- Carnival Games))

Audrey tapped her forearm impatiently. What on earth could be keeping Carly? She'd promised her parents that she'd look after the girl, but had a sneaking suspicion that Mr. and Mrs. Starfield had intended it to be the other way around. Well, whatever. She'd have a good time here, with her little sister or not.

She stepped up to one of the booths, a pop-the-balloon-with-a-dart affair, and paid the man behind the counter. Audrey slowly judged the distance between the dartboard and the balloon row, thought for a moment about how much more suited someone like Carly would be for this sort of game, and, pushing that thought aside, let the dart fly.

(( Shasta: Sidewalks near the main parade route, the crowds partitioned off ))

"Try not to be late this time." It was still early into the festivities and Shasta's temper was simmering. Her brother Nate's words echoed in her head as loudly as any chime Big Belle could (or would) ring that day. His know-it-all tone, the condescending jerk.. she hated it. As soon as he had started lecturing her on her punctuality (which in truth was only a couple of lines, but she really was not in the mood to hear it), the girl had waved a hand and said, "I know, god," and moved off on her own into the crowd. She had a watch, she knew what time she had to be back, she'd only done Teufel Day celebrations for the whole of her life. Why did he always feel the need to lecture her? Even Auntie Yolanda had cautioned her (although more gently) to be back early. It was going to be Shasta's second time singing solo with the rest of the Chavez clan at a town event, so it would not do to get too wrapped up in other activities. The thought dissipated a fraction of the earlier sourness, although it did not get rid of it entirely. Oh, Teufel Town was in for a treat today, yes it was! She had been working hard with her aunt on the two songs she was going to sing, and come seven o'clock, the whole town would get to hear just how good she was (take that, Nate!). That did not mean, though, that she couldn't take a peek around the festivities first.

So here she was, pushing her way through crowds of festival goers, wearing her newly-made crimson mariachi dress. Her long hair swept up into a loose up do and pinned with a flower. The crowds were thicker here, many elaborately dressed for school events, the parade, or other local happenings, but Teufel Day was always a sight to behold. She ducked around a corner on the sidewalk with the intent to go wander towards the carnival rides. Her plans cut short, however, as she plowed full-on into someone coming the opposite direction. The girl reeled back, her hands gripping her dress to keep it from being stepped on (Grandma Reina would kill her and they would never find the body). She shook her head and frowned accusingly at who she had plowed into, who apparently had been busy texting on some blinged-out monster of a cell phone.

"Hey, watch it." She snapped back at the girl that she had run into.. before getting a good look at her. Shasta blinked at what she was wearing, her half-mast eyes squinting in confusion. "Wow. You get dressed in the dark?" Not that it fully surprised her, since Teufel Day always brought out the weirdos en masse. And even then, she did not have much room to talk, wearing her crazy dress.

------------------------------

(( Gemma: School bus drop-offs, with Teufel Town School Annex ))

Gemma's long legs took the steps of the bus in stride, and as she exited into the early evening sunshine, she surveyed the crowd around her. The blue-haired girl felt a tingling of happiness inside, at being asked to help her school with the craft booths they were monitoring. Not that Gemma was particularly crafty (her area was moreso painting, and not like anybody else need know about that), but to have been approached by the girls in her class so amiably and extended the offer.. well, it felt very pleasant. Her class (the girls, mostly) were selling small woven keychains, all particularly cutesy things (cakes, rabbits, cats). In truth, Gemma wanted to buy one as well - Liesel might like one. Then again, she was likely to see Liesel, Rory, and her mother later, as all three had promised to stop by later. Her father would be scarce until much later in the evening, after the fireworks; he and some of his coworkers at the docks volunteered on Teufel Day to help with crowd control and safety. It would be nice to do something together, Gemma thought. She joined some of the other boys with an awkward smile, and allowed the smaller girls to deposit supplies into her arms and point her in the right direction.

Her arms laden with rolls of tablecloth and PVC pipes for the booth, the girl could not help but smile as she joined the others near the booths. It was nice to be useful! The girls monitoring the booth all looked very nicely dressed today, and Gemma recognized the one directing supplies as the one who had asked for her help earlier. Her turn in line came after the girl had a conversation with the boy before her punctuated by laughs, and another of the girl's helpers freed her arms of supplies. Gemma stood there for a moment, smiling hopefully.

"Uhm, do you.. do you need any more help?" The girl's eyes snapped up to her, after they had been surveying the line behind her, and she turned away.

"That's all, just go," she replied with a wave of the hand. "We've got help, don't worry about it." Gemma's heart sank.

Oh.

"O-oh, uhm, sorry then," she mumbled with an apologetic nod of the head. Why was she an idiot? Why was she always such an idiot? She pivoted on her heels and walked back along the line, and as she moved away, her gaze lingered towards the front of the line, where the girl engaged the boy who had been behind Gemma in lengthy conversation. Of course. As she wondered what to do with herself, she heard a distant voice calling her name among the Teufel Town School crowds.. or so she thought. As she shrugged it off, a set of small arms grabbed her own arms and swung to hide around her. The mop of dark blue hair was familiar, as was his out-of-cadence panting.

"Gemmy, hide me." The corners of her lips tugged into a slight smile as her younger brother ducked around her, peering around. For as mature and independent as he tried to make himself seem, Toby could not quite shake certain childish things - the nickname that he and his siblings gave his sister, for example.

"What's the matter?"

"Rob told Mary I had a crush on her and now she won't leave me alone. She's annoying, and she smells funny." The look of disgust on her younger brother's face brought a low laugh bubbling out of her mouth, and he glanced up with annoyance. "What? She does. I think she dumped all of her mom's perfume on herself. It smells like old lady."

"Whatever, don't worry, I'll tell you if she's coming." Gemma had no idea what this Mary girl looked like, but it gave Toby a measure of comfort in any case. At least she knew what his best friend Rob looked like, and if she knew him, he would be right there beside the girl feeding into his teasing plan. Boys will be boys, she supposed. At the mention of boys, she allowed her gaze to drift back towards the craft booth momentarily, her expression sinking, before she turned her attention to her brother. "Hey, let's go get something to eat, sound good?" Toby puzzled over this for a moment - likely figuring out what route Rob might be taking, before nodding.

"Funnel cake and you have a deal," he offered up solemly. Gemma laughed, smacking him on the shoulder.

"Deal," she replied, and the two marched off into the crowds, funnel cake acting as their siren call.

((Lalita - School Buses, with her mother and sisters))

It would be an exaggeration to say that Lalita Singh had perfected the art of sulking, but it would not be much of one. She'd had ample opportunities to practice- whenever she couldn't do what she wanted to for reasons beyond her control, for instance- and she took advantage of every one. If this achievement was noticed, however, nobody mentioned it, except perhaps to suggest that she try to enjoy herself more. There wasn't a whole lot she could do with that advice. Lalita was terrible at relaxing and having fun; those skills were rusted from disuse, and most of her attempts led to feelings of guilt. Her time would be better spent practicing or studying, or so she liked to believe. The alternative- that all of her efforts were for nothing- was too upsetting to think about.

That day, she was doubly sulky. It was bad enough that her attendance was practically required for this glorified party. Far worse was the fact that many of her classmates were actually doing things. Some were in the parade, dancing or singing or in the marching band. Others had last-minute adjustments to make to floats they had worked to create. Still others were helping food or game stalls. The rest were content to leisurely wander, but Lalita was never comfortable with leisure. The clubs she belonged to had waved off her offers of help, telling her to enjoy the festival with her friends. They tried to put a positive spin on it, but Lalita knew that it was because she wasn't good enough to help at such a public event, and her face burned with shame even as she stepped off the bus and was promptly claimed by her mother.

Her sisters were already there, which made Lalita feel like she was late even though she had no control over the speed of the bus. Her mother spoke quickly, adding to the confusion and feeling of haste. "Hold these for a moment please, girls." Amrita Sarabhai unloaded her armful of bags and rummaged around in her purse. Lalita peered inside one as she listened, noting brightly-colored fabrics with cheerful graphics emblazoned on them. "Mohana, keep an eye on your sisters. Here's some money for food- nothing too greasy, please- and a few games. I want you girls to have fun." She gave Lalita an especially stern look. "I mean it. This is supposed to be a celebration."

Lalita looked away, uncomfortable. Now she would feel bad if she miraculously managed to enjoy herself, and bad in the more likely event that she didn't. Her mother was waiting for an answer, so she nodded dully. It wasn't a totally satisfactory response, but in the chaos it would have to do.

"Good. Mohana, you have the phone if anyone needs to reach me. I'll be helping set up the shops first. If anyone gets lost, go to a booth and ask them to call me- you all know my number, right? But don't get lost. Stay close- especially you, Kamala." This time her stern look was directed at the youngest daughter, who nodded somewhat guiltily. "That's my good girls. Have fun, okay?" Amrita kissed each of them in turn, then took the bags again and disappeared into the crowd.

The three sisters looked at each other for a moment, unsure what to do. Then one of Mohana's friends called her from a nearby bus. Mohana pursed her lips, nodded, and doled out some of the money to Lalita and Kamala. Her instructions were much more succinct than her mother's. "Meet me by the badge booth before the parade starts. Stay together. And if either of you tells Mom about this, you're dead." She started to walk away, then stopped and looked over her shoulder. "And Lali, try to have fun," she added with a smirk.

Lalita wasn't very surprised by this turn of events. Neither, it seemed, was Kamala, who looked up at her sister hopefully. "Can we get candy apples?

"What, now? Shouldn't we look around first or something?" Then again, Kamala was much more experienced at the whole "fun" thing. Maybe if she observed and imitated her sister, she'd at least be able to make it look like she was having fun. The idea wasn't very appealing, though.

Kamala scrunched her face, considering the options. "Okay, later," she agreed. "Maybe there's something even better than candy apples! And I want to try ring toss if they have a booth for that. She took her sister's hand and pulled her gently through the crowd. Lalita let herself be dragged along, slightly calmed by her sister's presence. Maybe she could pick up on this "fun" thing after all. Maybe.

Until then, at least she was really good at sulking.

(( Phoebe - School Buses ))

Amongst the Rosaline Academy students sat a bright blonde with sunny yellow eyes to match both her hair and her sparkling personality. The latest DJ headphones covered her ears effectively from the usual bus noise, allowing Phoebe a chance to get ahead of next year's reading. Her nose was practically in the pages but from what anyone could see she was absolutely beaming and nothing was going to ruin her jolly good time. She just loved the Teufel Festival, there was so much to do and so much history to explore, and Phoebe was prepared to make the best of it with a lot of good ole educational fun.

She was alone, her father gone to work and her grandmother conveniently uninformed of her trip. She would have meddled and made sure that Phoebe had a miserable time with some miserable nobody who had no talent and nothing better to do than stay with her mother until properly dismissed. She didn't want anyone getting in her way and that included her schoolmates. She made clear of that, having carefully placed her run down backpack on the other side of the bus seat. It looked more like it belonged to a garbage can than that of a Rosaline Academy student but what was a little pizza stain here and some mud here? Clearly it just gave it personality that none of the children on this bus had. Inside it was filled with several historical textbooks, a half filled notebook and several pens and even a pencil just in case.

A small glance across the page of her book and toward another side of the bus, Phoebe's bright eyes fell on a rather dull looking girl who seemed to be taking to one of the volunteers. Perhaps her mother? A small sense of dread, Phoebe quickly moved the book back to her face. All she needed was to accidentally get stuck with some girl like that. What a dream come true it would be... for her grandmother. A pretty, and rich Rosaline Academy girl like that? Phoebe simply smiled, but her stomach curled unpleasantly. She couldn't get off this bus soon enough.

Luckily, soon enough was just around the corner. Phoebe wasted no time, picking her backpack up over one arm, rubbing the bandage on her nose real quick and then practically leaping down the stairs. She didn't look where she was going, driven by the simple desire to get the ******** off the bus!
