*Falling In Eternal Snow*

Imagine a world, a world unknown to many but to so many still it is just daily life and a life they have only known. There is a place like this. There is a land where it is always winter, a never ending winter. The land is forever wrapped in snow and ice; a chill to never come to an end, the chill is the warmth of the people that live in this land. What is this lands name you may ask? Well some call it Phiana’s Paradise, a Goddess known for bringing long winters. Others call it Tetzun’s Heart, once known as a God before his heart became cold as ice towards the people he was placed to protect. The rest, simply call the land Home, a place they are forever welcomed to.

It has been said for many centuries that humans were forgiving and accepting creatures except to those that have special talents, as they see this as threat to their way of life. The ones that are different are hurt, locked up, or killed. But this must be a joke I hear you say. Well this is not a joke to be laughed about. Several failed to listen to the seer and lost their lives. Whatever you wish to call this land of ice and snow that never melts that is up to you but for I and others we simply call it Home.

It has been many, many years since the vault has been opened in the castle. Last time it opened…well, lets just say it did not end well for the parents of the fair princess. Now the princess is the queen and the queen has a child of her own, a lovely little girl and recently a little boy. The two are adorable and both adored and very kind. I fear what may emerge from the vault when opened by the queen during the coming of age ceremony. If the same befalls her as it did her parents when she was recognized as an adult then I fear for what may happen.

Oh? You ask to what I speak of? I simply speak of the tragedy that fell on the day so many years ago on the current queen’s own coming of age ceremony. Somehow, when the vault was opened something sinister came and killed the king and queen. It was pushed back by a pure white light coming from the princess’s chest and the vault resealed. It was too late; however, as the king and queen were lying dead in their own blood from the monster sealed behind those pair of golden doors infused with ice and snow. The princess became the queen, married a very kind prince and life continued after mourning the death of the former king and queen. The queen vowed the doors are never opened again, yet I feel that she will open them again. I fear if she does that her pure heart will not be able to withstand the monster that took the lives of her parents.

This sends sadness and fear into your hearts? I apologize but it is what it is. There are so many that live in this world of ice that would not be accepted outside these lands. Perhaps there is a way to keep or help us to grow without bringing destruction to our homeland. Oh did you know there is also races that are not born of the snow and ice living here? Yes, there are, and they have adapted quite well and help those born here and vise versa.

Just remember that in the land of the ice and snow things are not always as they seem. The snow’s pure white color can play tricks on the eyes and fool one’s sight and mind. The ice may be smooth and reflective but even a reflection can become distorted upon the sight of those who have a warped mind.

Now then…I welcome you all to a world of eternal winter. May your hearts stay warm and not become icy as the ground is beneath your feet.

Flames shot into the air as people danced to music that played during the celebrations. It was almost time for the ceremony that would introduce the next queen to rule the lands of ice. People were rejoicing their current queen would soon bring her daughter into adulthood. The Princess however was not as thrilled, she was scared and nervous about this. She heard stories of what happened on the day her mother was brought into adulthood on her Coming of Age Ceremony and did not wish for her to relive that.

People chatted outside in the hallways and outside in the streets, within the hour the princess would be brought before the audience in the throne room to be accepted into the age of the adults and be required then to learn and focus on her training more to be the next queen, giving up her days of play and fun. The Princess looked around silently her snow silver hair cascaded down her back softly like water as she looked about her room silently. So many happy memories and she had a twisted feeling in her stomach that her days of joy may be numbered into just hours. “What am I going to do? I…I cannot tell mother of my dreams or the feeling in my stomach. It would upset her if I ruin this day.” She whispered softly, a voice so soft and sweet it was like that of touching a delecate flower petal.

The Queen was in her chamber, getting ready as her hair was pulled back and put up with jewels. The adviser stood behind her, watching as her personal maid fixed her hair and began to put a necklace on around her neck. “My Queen are you sure about this? I mean, you don’t need to do this.” He said worried, pushing glasses back up on his nose, his hair short and brown with green eyes. The queen sighed closing her eyes softly, staying silent as the eye of the necklace was fastened into the hook and the maid stepped back so the queen may stand. The queen stood and turned opening her eyes to watch the adviser.

“I am sure and I know what it means and entails. I have thought it over many nights and I am sure things will go better. I have been preparing and I am sure my daughter is prepared as well.” She said gently, her voice soft and kind. The adviser looked worried and sighed shaking his head.

“My Queen, please reconsider this. I don’t wish to see what I had back then. Your mother could not overcome it nor could your father and both were very powerful with kind hearts. It almost killed you last time. Please leave the darkness locked away.” He pleaded to her, wanting her to not open the sacred doors that held back the darkness.

“I am sorry but….I must. It is required that each princess coming to age face the darkness to prove her heart is pure as the white snow to rule with an honest eyes, heart, and soul….even if it means my life. I will do this so the people of the snow and ice can see their next queen is pure and will guide them with her kindness and not try and rip the land apart.” The queen stated firmly, her face firm to show she meant what she said. The adviser saw the look in her eyes and sighed closing his eyes and lowered his head some.

“Yes…my Queen, I understand. You have the same look to your eyes your mother and father did on the day of your coming of age ceremony. I cannot argue with you and win just like your mother…always putting the country’s needs and requirements before her own safety.” He said quietly before opening his eyes and lifting his head. “If you wish to go through with this then by all means do so but…if you parish we shall miss you. We all love you Queen Yura and wish for you and the Princess to be safe.” He told her and she gave a gentle nod.

“I know.” She said kindly, gently reaching out as she stepped closer to the adviser and gently touched his cheek. “I know you all love me and my family so I will not fail if my daughter does. I love you all and if I am to fall to the darkness that lurks held back by sacred doors then I only ask my daughter and her brother be taken care of and given love and kindness from everyone.” She requested smiling gently.

He nodded giving a polite bow and kissed the top of her hand. “It would be an honor and a pleasure to take care of the Princess and Prince till they are ready to rule the throne.”

“Thank you. I am glad you have always been my parents advisers then mine and my husbands. I am very happy and I hope you will be around longer to be my daughter and son’s adviser.” She said smiling giving a soft giggle.

“Oh my queen,” he laughed, “of course I will be around. Unless someone has the Sacred Blade of Anubis I will be alive for much longer.” He said laughing some. The queen laughed as well as the two exited her chambers to go down to the throne room that was adorned by ice crystals and glass with tiles of beauty on the floor. The queen smiled softly as she sat on the throne, waiting on her daughter.

The Princess stayed in her room, nervous and scared about the task that continued to near closer every second. The Princess sighed looking out her window quietly, pondering how to get out of going through with the ceremony, not wanting to risk her mother being injured or killed when she’d open the door like in her dream. Shaking her head the Princess stood quickly in her beautiful snow blue down, jingled with small dangling ice crystals. Reaching out as she got to the chair she picked up her cloak and made her way for the door.

The Princess stopped quickly, short of running directly into the maid who came to the door. She stared wide eyed as the maid blinked then smiled to the Princess, clean sheets in her arms. “Good afternoon Princess. Are you going to the throne room for your Coming of Age Ceremony?” the maid asked and silently the princess nodded. “Oh that is good. You are so much like your mother. It makes us all proud to know one day you will be the Queen of these lands and will leave your mark of hope and kindness upon this land.” She said smiling sweetly. Blankly the Princess nodded again before slipping out past the maid to go down the hall, glancing back to see the maid go into the room before the Princess would take off the other direction, planning to go down the back stairs to run and prevent her mother from doing what her dreams had showed her.

User Image "Looks like they're almost ready for the ceremony..." Caran the Red sat on the brow of a nearby hill overlooking the crowds that had gathered in the citadel. In his right hand a book, his left, a small glass from which he sipped occasionally... "Delicious..." he glanced over his shoulder at his broody companion before returning his attention to the light show as more works of fire escaped into the sky...

Sat beneath a tree, a short distance from the ageing man sat the dark prince, Silently he took a whetstone to one of his daggers, sliding it along the edge of the blade before repeating the action. His weapon was a blade made of dark-blue crystal that had been taken from the depths of Sune itself, strong, yet flowing with a noticeable dark energy...

"Ah! Splendid! Are you seeing these, lad?" he looked across once again at the male as he started sharpening his other dagger, "Such wonders these pyrotechnics create! Of course, I know how they make them, but it's still a spectacular feat to see!" He took another sip of his drink, then made the glass vanish into thin air, "It was certainly a good plan to come up here...all those crowds, and guards...hehe"

Tala lifted the blade, inspecting its crystal edge closely before sheathing it. He then breathed a sigh and rose to his feet.

"Where are you going?" Caran had drawn his eyes from the lights now, "They're about to start." He formed a small visual portal before him, glancing briefly across the crowds within the throne room before looking back at the male...

"Just getting a better view..." Tala muttered, looking up at the tree before pulling himself up onto the first branch and getting settled once again.

Inside the castle the Queen waited, sighing, knowing her daughter might not succeed but she felt if her daughter did not have the ability to push the Darkness back that she herself once again could. People sat, watching, mostly being of nobility even if not royal but of those with more money than the common people. A guard came in, the Princess with him at his side as he brought her in by her arm. The Princess looked to her mother, shaking her head no, she didn't want to take part in the ceremony, visions flashing before her eyes of her nightmare.

The guard helped bring her up to the Queen, bowing polite as the Queen bowed her head in a polite thank you. The guard left, leaving the Princess to stand before her mother. "Mother, we shouldn't do this. Something bad will happen." The Princess whispered, fear in her quiet voice. The Queen sighed shaking her head softly, gently placing her hands on her daughter's shoulders.

"My dear, quiet down. It shall be fine. If your heart is pure and strong you shall win and nothing terrible shall befall anyone." The Queen stated softly and kindly, trying to comfort her daughter with a gentle smile. The Princess shook her head softly, worry clear still on her face.

"Mother, please, we can't do this." The Princess said softly in a quick voice but the Queen looked to the people sitting and waiting for the ceremony to begin.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome today to our home and the Coming of Age Ceremony for my daughter, Princess Rosa, named after the beautiful Ice Flowers that bloom in red ice like the rose. This is a grand day when my daughter shall take the test to show if she is ready to enter the title of adult hood and begin to learn what is passed onto those who ascend into the age of adult hood. To do this the doors shall be opened. If Rosa is truly ready the Darkness shall be pushed back and sealed once more deep into the debts inside behind these sacred doors. If not then I shall use myself to push back the Darkness and to reseal the doors till another time later on for us to see again if she is ready to be an adult." The Queen said to all the guests who watched.

The Princess listened, watching, her eyes widening as her mother turned to the pair of giant glass appearing doors of ice that held sacred carvings into them, even a chain and lock made of ice to keep the massive doors closed. The Queen approached the doors, reaching out to the odd looking lock. Princess Rosa gasped moving to race over and stop her mother. "No!" she screamed as her mother placed her hand on the lock, causing it to spark and click, dropping down as it unlocked. Rosa stared in pure fear, her eyes widening as she began to shake. "No....no....this can't be." she said in fear, her voice shaking as she stared, watching the chains and lock fall, the doors slowly opening.

"Just like my dream.....this can't be...." she whispered fear clear in her voice. She then screamed, shielding her face as a black wind shot out of the doors, throwing them wide open hard. People screamed and ran to get away as the Darkness flooded out with a dark laughter following echoing around the room.

"Oh my, my, my. It has been a very long time. Seems all is the same, now then, why don't you allow me my throne?" A male voice asked, causing Rosa to look around quickly to see nothing but dark wind. When the dark wind would settle there on the throne in black, a white ruffle at his neck that held a ice blue gem at the base of his neck of the white ruffle that popped against the black shirt he had on. A black cloak with a high collar to it he sat, crossing one leg over the other, wearing black pants and black shoes. Dark blue gloves covered his hands, the color might as well had been black though by their tint.

The man smirked, his icy green eyes landed on the Queen, a cruel smirk on his lips. "It has been quite a long time my Queen. How have you been? You appear well anyway. Now, this must be your daughter I take it. Such a beauty. She takes after you." He said smirking laughing some as he sat on the throne in a relaxed manner, not showing any fear as the Queen stared in shock that she had not been able to put him back into the doors to seal him again. "Too bad your little girl has no guts to use anything she's got. Way too wimpy just like you were till you seen your mother falling to me. Then you sprang into action." The man laughed as he spoke, closing his eyes, pushing his black short hair back out of his eyes.

The Queen's body had tensed as she narrowed her eyes upon him. "You be silent you. You shall not remain here. No Darkness shall take over the Land of Ice." She snapped strongly, trying to focus and get her light power to work only to for some reason find it not working. The man opened his eyes, grinning widely.

"Aw what's wrong? You can't seal me away again like you had? I thought you knew. When those doors are opened your power is put away into the lock till I am sealed away again." He said smugly, laughing again. "Meaning your only hope was your pitiful daughter and we can obviously see she's a useless person. Well...I grow bored with this stupid idle chatter. Shall we begin my rein as King?" he asked standing from the throne, holding one arm in front of his chest before shooting it out in a sweeping motion outwards, sending out black wind, having fall from it dark soldiers covered in black armor, their heads and faces covered by helmets so it was hard to tell if there was someone inside or if they were being moved by sorcery.

The people began to run, fleeing from the castle in fear, screaming for help. Rosa screamed, dodging a sword from one of the soldiers and moved to run, screaming as she fell again as the soldier swung its blade at her again. The Queen had grabbed a long axe and was busy trying to hit the man, her face cold and serious. "Mother!" Rosa screamed her voice cracking, watching this before yelping and dodged again and ran to try and escape the soldiers. The man smirked, watching this as he moved back easily and calmly, not breaking a sweat.

"Is this all you have?" he asked bored before quickly swinging his hand out, catching the blade in his palm, smirking then slowly a grin grew on his lips. "My turn, dear Queen." He said in a low tone, dashing forwards, turning into a blacker wind than before, engulfing the Queen. Rosa gasped, her body feeling frozen in fear as she seen her mother vanish inside the black wind. When the black wind vanished and he reappeared the Queen was nowhere to be seen.

"No! Mother!" Rosa cried out her voice cracking more as she screamed, tears in her eyes. The man looked to Rosa, slowly turning so he was facing her, a sick, cruel smile on his lips.

"Oh does the dear little Princess miss her mother? Well I could send you to see her but where would the fun be there?" he asked in a cold tone, chuckling. "And where would I, a King, be without a dear Queen on my arm and at my side?" he asked grinning darkly as he snapped, sitting down on the throne as the soldiers moved to try and capture Rosa. Rosa snapped to her senses and ran, racing for the front door, wiping the tears from her eyes in order to see. When a soldier moved to block her she ducked and ran down another direction, headed for another door down a hallway.

Her body was shaking, her legs burning and her heart hurting. She shook her head, wiping the tears again as she ran, not stopping as she panted, not stopping to catch her breath at all as she only thought of escaping and somehow finding her mother and saving her if she could but had no idea how as of now.

The man sat in the throne, laughing, his voice echoing in the throne room. "What a wonderful welcome. Now, I shall redecorate this odd castle. Make it feel more....homey." He said chuckling, moving one hand out, slowly darkness began to cover the ice walls and floor, giving it a darker look, making the one clear white ice and snow turn to black ice and snow for the castle.

User ImageUser Image "This could prove to be problematic..." Caran the Red rose to his feet, noting the once pristine castle now started to darken as the crowds fled away in fear...

He waved off the mirror, then turned to face his companion, watching as Tala observed the scene, seemingly transfixed by the darkening of the ice...

"I would suggest assisting the young Princess, but we are only two...besides that, it's up to her to do this...so says the prophecy..."

The male stood, dropping down from the branch before drawing a hand back to his weapons, he was up for a fight...and the increasing swarm of dark soldiers was more than a little enticing...

"Tala." Caran's voice snapped him from his thoughts, "It's much too risky, and the Demon King is far too strong."

"...His soldiers aren't..." the male growled, striding towards the edge of the hill, scanning the scene once again before readying himself to leap away...

"I can't have you running off with all this darkness around..." Caran frowned, catching hold of his companion's shoulder before pulling him back, "It's much too risky, and if you..."

"...Damnit old man..." Tala pulled away, cursing the mage beneath his breath, "I'm not gonna turn if I attack the darkness...!"

"I have faith that if she's right to rule the Kingdom, she will survive this ordeal. Until then, you must keep out of the way." he turned and calmly made his way down the hill, away from the castle. "Come on, I'm sure the tavern is still taking orders." he chuckled, clearly winding the boy up...

She ran out the back, looking behind her, staring in fear as the once beautiful clear white ice became dark. She kept running, racing into the forest of snow filled trees to find shelter, terrified of the man inside and his solders. She stumbled, at times falling but got back up, keeping up her run before finally collapsing, panting, being along a path near a field. Her breathing was hard, her breath showing and her body shook in the snow with her eyes closed.

User ImageInside the man known as the Demon King or to a very slim few as Sino sat enjoying himself, now sipping on a glass of beautiful red wine. "Now then....I wonder if I can have me a new pawn to use to play with." He asked smirking, moving his free hand out to cause the black ice floor to glow and fade, showing a giant chess board. His smirk grew as he watched inside of it, seeing the Princess laying in the snow. Chuckling he sipped the wine once more, moving his hand again searching for someone to use besides his soldiers.

"Come now and show me a darkening heart." Sino said, watching the board as it searched and he waited, slowly letting darkness take over the trees, starting to work on capturing the Princess, wanting her as his bride even if she refused he would have her one way or another. "Show me of a dark heart, one who holds darkness so close but so far come before me and let me grant you the darkness you desire." He said in a low calm tone, his face loosing the smirk as it turned to frustration, his grip on the wine glass slowly tightening as the board was not giving him what he wanted.

User ImageUser Image The bar was more than two-thirds empty...only a selection of what were probably regular patrons remained, too plastered to be aware of what had occurred at the castle...

"One Ice-cold, Shiva Special." Caran sat down opposite the male, a tray with two drinks, one a light tipple, the other a glass of water topped with ice... "Although why you don't order something alcoholic is beyond me..."

"...Because I don't want to turn out like you." Tala muttered, narrowing his eyes as the Mage gave a laugh at his comment,

"You need to lighten up, Lad." Taking a sip of his drink before pushing the glass of water across to his companion he ditched the tray on the side and sat back, "With these dark times, you need to let yourself relax once in a while..."

Tala turned his head away, wincing as he felt the seal-mark on his shoulder start to burn...

Caran had placed the mark on the male days after their first encounter, the boy had resisted everything the Mage had thrown at him and it had taken a great amount of time and energy to finally bring him under control... The mark helped to seal away Tala's darkness, but it didn't leave him completely disarmed... he could tap into a small percentage of his inherited power and abilities, but there was always the risk he could lose control and overwhelm the seal - which was why Caran was ever vigilant...

"That thing's gonna sting for a while now that Demon is loose..." The Mage had noticed Tala's discomfort, even though the male had tried to hide it... "If it gets too much, I may have to add to it."

"I'll be fine." Tala growled, taking an ice cube from the glass and putting it into his mouth, crunching it into tiny pieces... the sudden chill in his mouth helped take the edge off the burn in his shoulder, but it didn't stop it...

"I would think those soldiers will be moving into the nearby towns soon... We had better gather some supplies and head out before they arrive..." he downed his drink before rummaging in his satchel for something, "I think I saw an apothecary... some herbs and potions may prove useful...especially if I need to strengthen that seal..."

Tala wasn't listening... To him, the old man was babbling like a kitten on catnip; instead, he was listening to a pair at the bar, they were talking quietly, but Tala could hear them just fine...

Apparently there were more than a few that rejoiced when the Demon King took over; followers of the shade, rather than the light... it seemed as though they were planning to give themselves to their King and offer their services in the hope they would be spared... There were other underlying reasons, but Tala had been distracted when the Mage rose to his feet in preparation to leave...

"Just a quick trip to a few of the stores, then we'll find some transport." He tipped the water Tala hadn't drunk into a small beaker before putting it in his satchel, "Come on, things to do, people to see..."

Tala muttered something beneath his breath and rose to his feet, following the man silently...

Sino watched the soldiers go, smirking, laughing as he seen the soldiers doing as he had commanded, sitting back in the throne. "Oh I love to be King. This was such a great event for me, wouldn't you say, my dear former Queen?" Sino asked smugly, turning towards one of the pillars, seeing the Queen stuck, interweave into the ice pillar.

The Queen stated in a firm royal tone, her eyes narrowed on him, showing she was not about to back down. Sino smirked, chuckling, playing with some shadows on his fingertips.

"Oh my dear sweet, sweet naive Queen. How you do make me laugh. Perhaps you should have been born a jester for me instead of a royal pain in the butt but I digress. You are so much fun to play around with and trust me, she'll come back. But if that's on her own or with a new toy once I find him well...that's up to how the pawns can play out on the board." Sino said smirking as he watched the Queen, examining her with her arms trapped above her head, hands inside the pillar of black ice, her arms out then the ice came around trapping her waist inside the black ice only to leave her legs not held but her feet and lower legs were held within the ice.

Sino stood, walking around, looking down upon his ice chessboard. "Now then....where shall I bring in my pawn and how shall I activate him? Hm? Perhaps I can lead him to your sweet little daughter and gradually have him bring her to me." Sino said as an idea grinning.

The Queen narrowed her eyes. "You are evil and should have never been allowed to be left alive in the Ice Lands." She growled at him coldly causing him to laugh as he stepped over to her, tapping her cheek.

"Oh my little Queen, you know your family are softies. Why on earth would they ever kill an enemy that wanted to destroy them and rule over their people?" He asked in an innocent tone before glaring at her, turning, walking back to the throne, moving a hand and a bar of ice went across her mouth under her nose. "You shall now be silent. Your voice is causing my ears to hurt." He stated coldly, sitting down, tapping his finger on the arm of the throne as he watched the chessboard thinking before he began to move one hand in a circle over the board in the air, whispering the words "Darkness in your heart, in your blood, find the Princess of the Ice Lands and bring peace to your darkness." He whispered softly, almost in a snake or reptile rough whisper.

She sat up looking around slowly, adjusting her glasses before standing up slowly and continued, looking at the white landscape all around her. She was alone and she knew it, the feeling she had was proof of that to her. She couldn't figure out how to get to her mother and how to save her, not feeling she was ready to face him, her fear was taking over her.

Taking a breath she sighed and looked about, working to grab branches now as she tried to gather branches and work a place to try and start a fire to get warmed up as she tried to think of what to do next.
