Maybe because most British men that get shown in the media tend to be really nice and cheery. :l
There's plenty of jerks scattered all around the world. I'm guessing that some people from various other countries believe that everyone from one country is a total sweetheart, even when every person in that country isn't. The whole "people from this country are so sweet" thing is also probably reinforced by how people from certain countries are portrayed in the media, too- i.e. It's a common stereotype for people who are Asian that they're really smart, and it's also pretty common that if they're black, they're either gonna be living in some nomadic tribe in a part of Africa, or that they'll swear a lot, be in a gang, listen to rap at full blast, etc. It's also a bit of a common portrayal that British men are very sweet people, so that's probably where you're coming from. (this is just an idea, though.)
Side note: British accents are really funny sounding to me for some reason.
