You might want to check out Yuji Nagata, Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuharu Misawa/Tiger Mask II (RIP) and Jushin Thunder Liger for starters. They're pretty well known and all four are fantastic wrestlers.

New Japan Pro Wrestling is the biggest and most well-known. They've been around for a long time; some of the names on their roster you might know are Low Ki, MVP, Lance Hoyt, Davey Richards and Prince Devitt. They're absolutely huge and they have a ton of great athletes. NJPW would probably be a good place to start. I'm just gonna place this here for anyone with interest in doing some reading on Japanese wrestling, I'm actually not all that knowledgable though I've seen some matches on Youtube. They've been around for a long time; some of the names on their roster you might know are Low Ki, MVP, Lance Hoyt, Davey Richards and Prince Devitt. Yeah, from my understanding puroresu is short for the wy a Japanese person would pronounce the phrase "professional wrestling" in English. I too am a nerd BJ.

I've heard Samoa Joe uses that sorta style! Yeah, it is. Very, very stiff wrestling. If you want to see strong style you might consider digging out some Antonio Inoki if you can find the matches.
