Francis stared out the dorm window, a small smile playing at the corner of his lips. It had been gloomy and overcast all morning, he had smelled the rain in the air and had been very pleased. His allergies had been plagueing him horribly and the only thing that seemed to help was when it got damp and or it rained and washed away all the pollen and dust in the air.
He turned back towards his dresser and the large mirror that he had set up in the corner of the dorm. He had offered to share it with the rest of his roommates and was surprised that no one had wanted to use it. It rather saddened him that they didn't take pride in how they looked. What were they thinking? Didn't they want to keep house points? Slovenly dress tended to make you lose them..or so he had noticed his first day to class.
Not that he had a problem with that. He had been taught from a very young age to dress impeccably and to keep his clothes from getting wrinkled. He even had an old iron that he could heat in the fireplace so he could iron out any wrinkles that might appear in his slacks or shirts. Sure he could have entrusted them to the House Elves, but his meticulous nature wouldn't allow anyone else to be in charge of anything he would wear.
He was happy to see that his nose had finally stopped swelling and had gone back to it's original color. He hated how the Slytherins were always calling him the Red Nosed Wonder. It was down right annoying! It wasn't like he could change the fact that he had allergies, or that he was constantly sneezing in class. If only the rain would stay around for more than the weekend, then maybe he'd actually look normal for once and not get in trouble for sneezing.
He had nearly gotten points taken away in Potions class earlier that week because his sneezing was a a terrible distraction. Not to mention that it had caused him to drop a beaker full of acid on the table. The acid had eaten straight through! Now he would have a permanent hole in his table..as no one else would be wanting it. His teacher hadn't been to thrilled about the damage, but was nice enough to say it was an accident and left it at that.
He could finally do some reading without his eyes crusting up or watering like crazy..so he headed off to the library with a lively little jig to his step. He could never get over just how huge the library was or the thousands of books that it held. It was kind of sad to know there were books that he'd never get to read. Why have books in a library that weren't allowed to be read? It seemed to defeat the purpose of them being there.
Francis walked down the stacks running his fingers over the spines of the books, plucking out a few interesting titles. It didn't take long for him to have a huge stack of them towering over his head. There were just too many good books to pass up. He walked slowly, trying to peek around the stack of books to keep from running into someone as he made his way over to the closest table.
"Just a few more steps." He murmured in a low voice to himself. "You can make it Francis."

It was raining again and Siianna hated the rain. Rain meant that she couldn't go outside. She paced in her room staring out the window when she passed it. Finally she left for the common room when her roommates threw a book at her. " What did they know, they like being indoors where there's nothing icky." She'd hoped one of her friends was down in the commons but it was surprisingly empty. She stood in the middle of the room and contemplated what to do next. She stomped her foot then sighed before heading towards the door. Perhaps, she'd find a book to read in the library.
Siianna's shoes clicked on the floor as she walked. There was hardly anyone around. It made her mood dampen even more. "Finally!" She pushed open the door and the sound of people reading and talking softly reached her ears. Smiling she nodded to one or two she'd recognized and headed towards the books she wanted. She was so busy visualizing where she wanted to go she bumped into a kid loaded down with books." Excuse me." She watched in horror as the books tilted. She reached out to try and help keep them from falling. " I'm so sorry!"

Francis didn't even know that he was being approached, he was so busy concentrating on walking and keeping his pile of books from spilling that he didn't hear the foot falls of the girl until she had already bumped into him.
The books wavered and Francis maneuvered back a step to keep them from falling. It seemed to work and he sighed in relief. "It's okay they didn't.." He started to say and then all the books crashed down around him loudly causing him to cringe. "fall." He finished staring down sadly at the pile of books.
"It's okay..I shouldn't have tried to carry so many." he replied glancing up at the girl for a moment. Then he quickly began to pick up the books, putting them into two piles. "Maybe you could help me carry these over there." He added pointing to the empty table he had been heading for before he had been so rudely interrupted.

Siianna took a half step and grimaced as the books tumbled. "Sorry." She was already getting to the floor to help when he motioned to the empty table " Sure I can do that."
She helped him place the books into two stacks and grabbed the one on his left. " What are all these for?" She tried to look at a title or two but was too difficult while she was holding them. She stood and waited for him to lead the way.
Smiling at the boy she thought that maybe today wouldn't be as boring as she thought it'd be. She gave the boy a quick look over and realized he was a first year from her house. " Name's Siianna, we're in Gryffindor together. Welcome to the house. I know it's a bit late, sorry."

"It's fine." Francis replied, "You're forgiven." He was grateful for her help, and picked up the second stack and started towards the empty table. He paused when he heard her question and turned to look at her. "For me to read." he replied honestly. Of course..they were on many different subjects so maybe that was just an obscure answer to give her. "I like reading about different subjects, up until today my eyes have been red and itchy and I couldn't read a thing. Now I'm just trying to catch up on some assigned reading and some reading for fun." He added, hoping she wasn't offended by the first answer.
he was a bit startled by her introduction and the fact that he had totally missed seeing her around the common room. She was probably one of those that preferred being outdoors all the time so maybe that's why he hadn't seen her before.
"Oh well it's nice to meet you under the circumstances. I'm Francis Neil Caffrey, and no worries. I imagine you have been making the best of the nice weather while it was here. I don't go out most of the time." He replied as he sat down his books and started sorting them into different piles.

Siianna smiled and giggled at his light hearted response. She opened her mouth to clarify when he expounded his answer. With a nod she closed her mouth. the only part that didn't quite make sense was why his eyes were red and itchy.
When he mentioned not going out often she put it together with the red eyes, and concluded he must have allergies. " Oh yes! I go outside to practice my sword fighting everyday I can." Oh how she loved feeling the sun on her face, the metal in her hands and the wind through her hair. But with her clean and tidy attire it was a bit hard to visualize her that way.
She watched with interest as he resorted the books. Maybe he was organizing them by importance. " Is there anything I can do to help? I still remember what I learned last year if you do."

Francis was a bit surprised to hear her giggling. He couldn't help but wonder what he had said that was so funny. And then she had opened her mouth like a fish gasping for breath and then closed it. It looked rather silly and caused him to grin. That would make an interesting drawing. He felt his fingers itch for a pencil and his sketchpad.
He grimaced slightly when he heard her talk so happily about spending so much time outside. He really didn't get how it could get people so happy. It was if they were addicted or something.
He saw her watch him as he sorted his books. He smiled and pointed to the piles saying, "Have to read for classes, books I found interesting and want to read, and books to read later." He explained. "Well I could use some help with Astronomy and History of Magic. Those ones are the ones I have the most trouble with."

Feeling a bit silly now she only nodded as he pointed to the stacks. " That makes sense." She moved to lean slightly on the table when he mentioned the classes he was having some difficulty in.
" Well I can definitely help with those but I got higher scores in History." She glanced over the stack of class readings. " There's this one book... Let me go see if it's here." Last year she'd gotten lucky and found a book that seemed to condense the timeline of events. Now if she could only find it.
She moved quickly while making sure not to disturb anyone else in the the library. Within 5 minutes, she'd found the book and was returning to Francis. "I found it!" Excitedly, she handed it to him.

Francis was a bit surprised to hear someone say he had sense. He smiled, feeling pleased that someone had actually complimented him.
"Thank you, I appreciate any help you can give." Francis told her gratefully. He watched her move away to search for the book she had spoken of.
He tapped his fingers on the table and then pulled out his quill and ink pot and lined them up besides his blank parchment and started to scribble down a few things from his notes. It didn't take him long at all to become focused on what he was doing. Her return and exclamation startled him slightly, and he jerked causing his quill to leave a blob of ink on the parchment.
"Drat," He muttered and deftly swabbed it up with a corner of his hankerchief. "Thank you, this should definitely help!" he exclaimed as he looked the book over. "Is there someway I can return the favor?" He asked turning to look at her.

Siianna smiled glad she could help. Tossing her hair behind her shoulder she shook her head. " I can't think of anything so don't worry about it." Looking at his messed up paper she reached up her sleeve and withdrew her wand and with a bit of concentration she flicked her wand and removed all traces of the ink stain. Stowing her wand away she smiled at the boy friendly. " Sorry about startling you, I should have realized you'd have gotten straight to work.
She smoothed her skirt as she sat in a chair near him, not yet willing to go and he did say he could use some help. " What else can I do to help?" She leaned forward giving him her complete attention, thankfully she wasn't one to fidget she wouldn't shake the table.

Francis was rather relieved that she didn't need help with anything, he had only offered because it was the nice thing to do. Truthfully he had plenty to do for his homework and then he hoped to get started on one of his Sherlock mystery books that he had brought from home. He had yet to start on reading his books he had been so busy with keeping up with all his classes.
"Thanks, I kind of have enough to focus on now." Francis watched in awe as she cleaned up the blob from his parchment with a wave from her wand. "Wow! I didn't realize that could be done. I'll have to learn how to do that..it will definitely come in handy. And no worries, you helped fix the mess."
He watched her as she smoothed out her skirt and sat down next to him. He pondered her words and what he had left to do. What could she do to help him? Most of the assignments were busy work. As if the teachers' thought they didn't have enough to do.
"Well, " He said with reluctance. "There's really not much else you can do. I just need to read all this stuff so I'm ready for the tests, I'm kind of behind because my allergies make it hard to read when it's not raining. Gosh..why do they give us so much work? It's like they think we have 48 hours a day."

Siianna nodded understanding but as her eyes wandered over the books, something seemed off to her. " May I look at your notes? Maybe I can help make sure you've got all the important parts down."
Something was nagging at her and for the life of her she couldn't figure out what it was. Now she did fidget a bit, delicately touching the binds on the books, tracing the words printed on them. Her final sign that she was thinking hard was her other hand started drumming softly on the table.
She turned back to Francis and smiled, his notes should provide her with that last needed clue.

Francis was a little surprised by her request and shuffled through his papers. Finally he located the assignment notes. "Here it is. Why did you want it?"
He watched her trace over the bindings on the books and over the words. He wondered if it was just a habit of hers or if she was just doing it absent mindedly. He reached out and places his hand over her drumming fingers. "Please cease and desist, that is too distracting." He told her and then went back to his note taking.

Siianna blushed and stopped immediately. "Sorry, I don't do that often." She gently plucked the papers from his hands. "Looking over your books something's nagging me. Hope you don't mind."
Her eyes quickly scanned over the pages before her face broke out in a huge grin. She gently set the papers on the table and turned her smile to Francis. " I don't think you need to be in here all day. You're actually quite a bit a head of where you should be!" She was glad for him that he didn't have to stress about being behind.
Looking over the papers she mentally did the math and nodded confidently. " Yep, you're a head by at least a week." She smiled and handed the papers back to him. She hoped he was glad he was ahead instead of behind, she knew she'd have found it rewarding to know you worked so hard enough that you were a head of everyone else.

Francis was surprised to see her blush. He had never made someone blush before. He nodded and left it at that. He was taken aback by her words. "Nagging? Interesting choice of words. I'm partial to using bothering or annoying."
He had been focusing on his notes but stopped when she told him that he was actually ahead. He slowly lowered his quill with a surprised look on his face and turned to look at her. "You're positive? Really?" He picked up the papers and looked them over. Sure enough..all the work he had been doing for the past two days had been for the next week. He laughed, and pushes his chair back.
"Well that's lovely. I could be reading fun stuff instead of this." He said pushing a school book out of the way."
It was almost as if a massive weight had been taken off of his shoulders and he suddenly felt free. He started to organize his papers and putting them away. "Well that's good, let me put these away and then you and I shall have to find something fun to do. Is there anything that you'd like to do?"
He suddenly felt really generous and wanted to share some of his free time with her.
