From: Route 1 and 2 Adventures~~~~~~~ Graham stopped in front of the Gym, looking up at the building. Here it was, the place that would decide his current worth as a Trainer and how far he would be able to go into Etrua. Frankly speaking, he was nervous. Though nervous was perhaps an understatement. He had NO experience with Trainer battles at all. Only wild ones. And Gym Leaders were the cream of the crop, far above the normal Trainers and even the Wild Pokemon. His first ever Trainer battle would be against a Gym Leader. It was like having your first mecha fight against Granzon from Super Robot Taisen. Shu would totally rip him apart! ... Okay, that was a bad example. Shu and Granzon were like... on par with the League Champion that went Super Saiyan. Maybe fighting Queen Gohma from Ocarina of Time without fighting any of the other enemies was a better example, if Queen Gohma was the equivalent to a Gym Leader and the normal enemies were like regular Trainers. But what would be the equivalent for Wild Pokemon? ... Grass. It was totally grass. He only had experience fighting grass, and now he was fighting Gohma. Which required way more skill and tactic. ... Dammit, now he depressed himself. With a sigh, Graham walked into the Gym. "Uh... hello?" he called out. "Mr. Gym Leader? The leader was waiting for Graham when the trainer entered, standing with arms cross on the opposite side of the gym. "Welcome to the Blyse City Gym," he said by way of greeting. "The true gym leader could not be here today, so I'm filling in for him. Do not take that to mean that I will be any less challenging though. Are you prepared for your battle?"

According to this guy, the actual leader wasn't in today, and he was going to take his place. "Any idea where he or she is?" Graham asked curiously. He also wondered if he would get a badge if he somehow managed to win. Well, there was only one way to find out. He rubbed the back of his head. "To be honest, this is my first actual Trainer battle, so I apologize in advance if I'm not quite up to par with the previous challengers you've had." he admitted. Regardless of win or loss, experience was experience. And that was the most invaluable thing any Trainer could get. Graham slowly walked over towards the arena to face the replacement leader. "So uh... so I lead off with my Pokemon first, or do you wanna start things off?" "That's quite alright," the gym leader responded. "As the first gym, we're used to battling trainers with little experience." Even still, fighting a trainer with no experience seemed a little overkill. "Typically the challenger goes first, but since it's your first time I'll be happy to oblige." With a flick of his wrist the Gym Leader sent his first Pokeball into the arena. "Go Farfetch'd!" The brown, duck-like Pokemon appeared in a flash of light, clutching its onion sword tightly.

Oh, the pseudo-leader was going to start off. That was pretty nice of him. And then he let out his Pokemon, which Graham was quick to get data of using the Pokedex. It was a Farfetch'd. Holding that leek like that made him look kinda like a samurai. He could probably be like Rurouni Kenshin. That wouldn't be too 'far-fetched', right? ... Haha he made a pun. How witty of him. "Err... The Gym Leader chuckled a little. "You're allowed up to six," he said. "Don't worry about numbers, come at me with your full force. Even if you don't win, I'm just here to evaluate your fighting style. You can still obtain a badge if you do well enough."

Ah, was that how it worked? It wasn't about beating the Gym Leader, but more about his qualifications as a Trainer. Which meant that combat wasn't only about overwhelming the opponent with superior numbers, but there was a necessity for tactics as well. He understood. He exhaled as he pushed up on his glasses. "Alright. I'll do my best then." he said, grabbing the Shinx's Pokeball from his belt. "Lucius, it's time for you to shine!" The lion cub emerged on the field. He looked around before trotting over to Graham, his little star-shaped tail wagging. "... Alright, I'll pet you first, but you gotta do your best out there, okay? It's examination time to see how good of a team we are." said Graham. After the pets, Lucius ran back onto the field before lowering his body posture to look more intimidating. Starting with Lucius was... probably a good idea, right? The Farfetch'd did look like a close-combat fighter and probably relied on physical attacks, so cutting his strength was probably a good idea. "Sorry about the delay. Uh... should I attack first, or do you want the honors, or should we leave it to chance and settle with a rock-paper-scissors game on turn order?" The leader smiled a little. "Time for your first lesson," he said amicably. "The first attack goes to whomever seizes the advantage." No sooner had he finished speaking than the Gym Leader turned his attention back to his Pokemon. "Let's lead off with Fury Attack!" The duck quacked a reply and sprinted forwards, slicing the Shinx with a volley of furious attacks.

Lesson learned. He'd keep that in mind as the Farfetch'd dashed in, jabbing and slashing at the Shinx with a Fury Attack. Graham's mind raced before he issued a command. "Don't worry about getting hurt for now! Just Tackle that duck!" One... two... three... before the fourth hit could connect Lucius rammed full-force into the Farfetch'd to hopefully interrupt the attack and keep it away long enough for Graham to fully assess the situation and come up with a countermeasure. Fortunately, the Intimidate had cut the duck's Attack so it wasn't quite as dangerous as it could have been. ((Only if you want the dice rolls. The Farfetch'd tumbled backwards, not expecting the violent response from its opponent. From his vantage point, the Gym Leader smiled. At least the kid recovered quickly. "Keep the pressure on , Farfetch'd!" he called out. "Hit it with another Fury Attack!" It was his only option against the Shinx and it had been working out for him, at least so far. The Farfetch'd responded with a resolute quack, rejoining the fray with an even more furious barrage of strikes.

((It's fine. Welcome back.)) The Farfetch'd held out from the Tackle, but the move was only to push away the bird. His Pokedex pinged, signifying a level-up. Oh, excellent. Time for a counter-attack. With a finger point, he gave his next command. "Generate electricity around you using Spark to try to stun it, then ram into it with the leftover energy!" It took a hit or two before the Shinx was able to use Spark effectively, zapping the bird in the middle of the third hit before slamming into the bird with the actual Spark attack. ((Still the same move, only the first part built up the electricity around it while the second part is actually using the move. The sudden flare of voltage sent the Gym Leader's Farfetch'd careening backwards, landing in a heap several yards away. "Get up Farfetch'd!" the leader shouted. He'd figured it was only a matter of time before the Electric moves came into play - it mattered little that the Farfetch'd had only taken the surge of electricity and not the actual tackle. The duck propped itself up, barely managing to regain its feet and the gym leader made a swift decision. "Return!" he called, sending the Pokemon back into its Pokeball. It was likely to not return to the field of battle, but if the battle came down to the wire his Farfetch'd might make a last-second appearance.
As for his next Pokemon, the leader had already made up his mind. "Go Pidgeotto!" he called out, releasing his most powerful companion. "Get that Shinx out of here, use Whirlwind!" Beating its wings furiously, the Pidgeotto created a miniature cyclone that sent the small blue lion cub back to its trainer.
((I figured the voltage was probably high enough to knock the farfetch'd away xD))

((Rolling first for who comes out, 1-5 in order. Looks like Miror B. makes an appearance~)) Hey... he did it. He beat the samurai duck! Woo~ Go Lucius! But victory was short-lived as the gym leader sent out a Pidgeyotto and commanded a Whirlwind. The Shinx was flung back at Graham, disappearing back into his ball, and before Graham could even choose who to send out, Miror B. took the stage. Aw yeah, bring out the smooth jazz. Of course, this was bad... Lotads were Water/Grass, and this was a Flying-type gym. Graham didn't know what sort of moves the bird had besides Whirlwind, but he could expect some other Flying-type moves. Well, time for some luck... "Miror B., use your Nature Power!" he commanded. Nature Power turned to Tri Attack! Three elemental spheres formed a triangle in front of the Lotad before it was fired off towards the bird to hopefully dish some damage. ... Hah, did he make a pun? The Tri-Attack took both the Leader and his Pokemon by surprise, but fortunately due to the Lotad's low level the energy spheres weren't nearly as deadly as they could have been. The barrage was still enough to cause Pidgeotto to be injured though and cause the leader to realize that they couldn't take a prolonged pounding from the move.
However, he had type advantage for the first time during the battle and was inclined to make the most of it. "Pidgeotto, hit it with Gust!" he ordered swiftly. The falcon chirped an affirmative, flapping its wings swiftly to generate a small tornado over the Lotad.

He didn't expect Miror B. to be able to last that long out there, but it was totally worth catching the Leader and his Pokemon off-guard. If he was a little stronger, that attack would have been so much more damaging. Unfortunately, that didn't really matter much at this stage as the Lotad was sent flying from the bird's Gust attack. He recalled the shiny Pokemon before he sent out Lloyd. Of course, he wasn't expecting the small Psychic to be able to do as much as Miror B.'s Tri Attack from Nature Power, but he'd at least be able to inflict some damage without being KO'd in one shot for weakness. "Lloyd, use Confusion!" The Psychic Pokemon let loose a psy attack onto the falcon once he had finished Tracing the Pidgeotto's Keen Eye. Graham wasn't expecting much from it other than to assess what other moves the bird could have.
