The stars were high within the sky and the world had just gone to sleep when Andromeda emerged into a clearing. Her glowing eyes instantly turned skyward as a delicate smile formed on her maw, if there was one thing that made Andromeda feel happy it was the stars. They were so very high above her head and out of reach but whenever she looked at them she felt instantly at home. For a moment she felt as though her consciousness was being pulled from her body only to be shot skyward into the vast expanse of blackness beyond. Her body remained behind her, still attached to the earth below. Closing her eyes she envisioned what it would be like to float among the stars.
A gentle breeze played with the mare’s silver mane, causing the glowing stars within her hair to twinkle with each passing strand of hair. She had always felt connected to the stars, though she didn’t remember her past she did feel as though this were a true statement. How could she not be somehow connected to them when the very markings on her body resembled them? Opening her eyes she peered across the clearing at an old gnarled tree. It hadn’t been so long ago that she had awoken beneath its strong bows only to realize she had no idea where she had come from. Taking a few hesitant steps in that direction she thought upon investigating the spot for the hundredth time. Suddenly she stopped and stomped a delicate hoof into the earth. She would not be drawn there once more! She knew the answers she sought did not reside beneath that tree. Once again turning her gaze skyward she looked for comfort from the brightly burning stars.

Tiny silver hooves tapped the ground in places as long tufted ears twitched into the winds. A small nose sniffed at the breeze as the small creature hopped precariously around in the tall grass, its dark cotton tail flicked behind it as its silver eyes peered out at the world around it. Standing itself up on its hind legs, the small mara looked around atop the grass stems and into the distance. It had spotted something and froze, nose twitching along with its ears surveying the area again. Something else was out there this night, something larger then itself.
Taking to all fours, the small mara headed in the direction of Andromeda, stopping every once in a while as its went. Stopping beneath a large old tree, the mara stopped and sniffed at the large roots, hopping onto one of them, small hooves making a soft clatter as it went. Out of the tall grass, its star studded pelt exposed. Surely this small creature had a guardian, right? The mara sat itself on the root, front hooves pulled into its chest as it puffed, silver eyes held wide in alertness. One had to wonder, what was it searching for?

The sound was barely a whisper but it caused Andromeda’s ears to twitch as she turned to search for the source. She hadn’t been startled necessarily but being unable to see what was lurking about had her heart beating a bit more quickly against her ribs. She scanned eyelevel thinking perhaps that it had been another Kirin somewhere in the distance but saw nothing. Lowering her gaze she searched the ground and nearly missed the little creature perched atop a root protruding from the ground. Tilting her head she stood still so as not to startle it before taking a slow and tentative step forward. “Hello?” She called softly to it. Without her memory to guide her she had no clue as to whether or not it could speak; she didn’t even know what it was.
Stopping herself from encroaching upon it any further she squinted so as to better see the animal. Upon its coat it wore what appeared to be markings much like the ones she possessed. She had only seen one other aside from herself who wore stars. A small smile formed upon her maw as she took another slow step forward. “I won’t hurt you.” She cooed reassuringly. “You are quite pretty.” She added delicately. She really hoped that she wouldn’t scare it away, just its presence there on the root was enough to make her forget the troubling thoughts she was mulling over before its appearance.
