[C]aptain's [O]ffice
The office of Sazagishi Kuroyanagi sits right next to the squad's barracks building and is divided by a walled rock garden. A path paved in stepping stones leads from the raised patio walkway that runs about the outside of the first floor of the barracks building. It connects Captain Kuroyanagi's personal suite and her office. When facing the office building, to the left, the boundary wall belongs to the Sacred Garden and is a shambles. Some of its former pieces of the wall are displayed in the garden. To the right, the boundary wall belongs to a dojo converted into a kind of small-scale brewery. Here, Saza brews all sorts of spirits, including her trademark sake. She'll occasionally hold brewers workshops or classes and occasionally hosts master craftsmen in the barracks.
The actual office building is reachable from the stone paths leading from the garden, barracks building and trailing through an alley between the brewery and barracks building. It looks to be little more than an open beach cabana-type building with three walls and a roof. There is no apparent wall separating its spacious half-covered raised patio from the inside, nor does there appear to be any join or division between the areas.
In truth, as the need presents itself, a series of sliding wooden panels are drawn from the wall-for they make up the actual walls. The true construction is a one-walled pavilion supported by roman columns. The panels may slide along the entire perimeter of the building and along a hidden groove halfway through the roofed area. Part of the building remains uncovered, and thus cannot be paneled. There are enough panels to surround the perimeter and divide the roofed portion into two rooms. These panels are normally layered in three stacks when stored away, so are thin but sturdy and have dual sides. They can be spun on their runner so the wall can be reversed to either side. One side retains and traps heat while another breathes and circulates cool air. The most common way that these panels are used is a few of them are scattered equidistant around the perimeter and are turned perpendicular to the line of their runner. This is primarily used in rainy weather so that Captain Kuroyanagi may view the storm in relative comfort. These panels are each three feet wide.
The patio is floored with hardwood panels while the innermost portion of the pavilion is floored using tatami. A few of these panels lift to reveal a few choice pieces of furniture and other things. Within the tatami-lined area is a simple desk with rounded sides. It is open on two sides, and thus is revealed to be little more than a piece of curved wood with three sides. It has a large surface area-three feet wide and five feet long-and set low to the ground. On it are a scatter of paperwork and a few choice baubles and paperweights. In the "legs" are a few nooks and crannies where parchment and writing instruments are stored.
In the hollow space under the floor are stored pillows and floor seats, a kotatsu and a few sets exercise and training equipment she personally owns. She loans them out and uses them when working with individual squad members, which is relatively often.
The only other furnishings are a show stand for her zanpakutō and a tapestry of a curious creature called a Portuguese Man-of-War.
