So me and my boyfriend have been talking a lot about sex lately and we think we're ready. My parents always said to tell them when I was ready and they'd buy me birth control, ect, because they rather have me be safe then sorry. When it comes down to it I don't think they'd be so cool. My mom has talked about birth control in the past for my irregular period but hasn't mentioned it since I got a boyfriend. I was thinking I could wait till we had been together for a year then talk to my mom or dad about it but I don't want to wait for something like that when I feel the time is right. The other thing stopping us is well... hes 18 and I'm underage. My parents are aware of this. I've taken this into serious consideration and always tell him that I'd be really worried for him and he says it will be fine if no one finds out who is against us. I don't know what to do...
EDIT: ok I understand I should probably tell my mom...but....how exactly would i bring something like that up? How do I know she wont be disappointed in me...

If you are going to have sex but are unable to get to a doctor on your own, then tell your parents. It's better to have an awkward talk and maybe even have them freak out a little than it is to risk pregnancy.
If you are going to have sex and are able to get to a doctor on your own, then whether you tell them or not is your choice. If you or your boyfriend drive, then you can look for a clinic like Family Planning or Planned Parenthood. You can get pap smears, condoms, hormonal birth control, STD tests, and anything else you might need there without your parents ever finding out.
Also, just because he is 18 and you are under 18 doesn't necessarily make sex between you two illegal. The laws vary depending on where you live. They even vary from one to state to the next in the US. In many states it's not illegal unless one person is 18 or older, the other person is under 18, and there is at least a four year age difference between the two. So you might want to check out the laws where you live to see whether or not the age difference would be an issue.

LorienLlewellyn You can get pap smears, condoms, hormonal birth control, STD tests, and anything else you might need there without your parents ever finding out. I take medication for epilepsy so my mom and my doctor would have to know before I tried taking any other pills on a daily basis. :/ Also we're both in the middle of getting our permits right now so neither of us can drive... In california its illegal for any minor to have sex. Even if your both under 18 and its consensual the guy will still get in trouble. stressed

Since you can't get birth control without your parents knowing, yes, you should tell them. But I'd also talk to them before because of the law, because if you get pregnant and they then decide to press charges against your boyfriend, that would be really bad.
