Hyjon's Rest It is less of a village than it is a ruin. There are no more than 30 stone structures here, mostly houses; each of them ramshackle and misshapen from sunken foundations and walls. Gray, grasping vines claw up their sides like mummified hands, mutant and trembling in the moaning wind that moves between the buildings.

There is but one paved road here; its cobblestones are cracked and split, but equally ragged wagons travel its trail. Their stop is always the tavern, a place no more put together than the houses around it. The sign that once hung from a post at its front now leaned against its narrow porch. Among it's peeling paint, only two of its three words can be managed.

T-e P-e-sant Omen

A haggard old man sits on the porch alone, watching the street with one hateful, glossy eye as he smokes from a long wicker pipe.

It smells of tar and manure here. There is no livestock to be seen. No cats or dogs that prowl the broken streets for scraps of food. They were eaten months ago.

In the distance, past a field of marshy hillocks topped with rusty brown grass there is something stark and shocking - brand new, gleaming in the rising sun. It's washed and chiseled stones fit together seamlessly to form a glowing tower; golden banners flapping triumphantly in the breeze. It was no more than 200 yards from Hyjon's Rest, yet it appeared to be in a world all it's own.

Blood sighed as she carefully moved through the bushes and trees that ran along side the road which lead into a small village called Hyjon's Rest. This was where her mission would begin, so at the moment all thoughts she had were now focused on just the mission. 'Dont worry... you'll be fine... your training has prepared you for this...' Blood mentally told herself as she branched off through the trees away from the road. She made her way to the back of a house, then skillfully climbed up it so that she could get a decent angle from the roof top to survey the area. Once on the rooftop blood actually got down onto her stomach and crawled towards the edge of the roof that was near the front of the house. 'So far it looks like merchants are just trading here... seems like a somewhat peaceful place, even if it is way out in the swamps...' Blood thought to herself as she used her soul sense to watched everything in the area more carefully, or atleast watch what her eyes couldn't already see.

At first, everything was quite. In the pre-dawn hours of the night, everyone was asleep in their beds, save the single shadow of an old man seated at the front of the tavern. Why he was there at this hour was anyone's guess, but he stuffed what appeared to be the dark silhouette of a pipe with something and drew a match to light it. It lit, he smoked, and things proceeded in silence until figures could be seen marching the horizon. Several figures - more than a dozen, possibly greater than 24 but given the light it was hard to tell at this distance. Twilight revealed the dimmed gleam of armor; a lot of armor at that. One thing was easily distinguishable despite their distance. In that group were two lines of banner, gold in thread and glimmering in the soft marsh breeze.

The old man turned his head in that direction -south of the town's main road, where somewhere far beyond sight's grace the marshlands met the sea. He did not rise from his chair. He sat in near silence, mumbling to himself as rings of smoke popped from his withered lips.

"Exactly," the guide said as the trees started to thin out, giving them glimpses of buildings. "But if you run into trouble, I will be coming in to bash in heads. I am your guardian in this area and I will not fail our Lady by letting you get hurt." He set Leifang down next to him. "Should you find trouble, call my name." He smiled sheepishly. "Which I just realized I never gave you. It's Arron." He looked back to the buildings. "I won't be as fast as you but I can follow a bit behind in my normal form. If trouble starts, I'll take my armor form to help you. But I'm much slower in it. So run fast."

Leifang watched the sleepy town of Hyjon's Rest rise from the forest like ancient ruins. She frowned as she examined the broken down, almost hopeless buildings before returning her attention to her guardian--as he referred to himself--as he spoke. She swung her legs around to land squarely next to him as he dropped her. Her eyes viewed him sideways through her mask, her smirk's emotion reflecting in her eyes as he sheepishly offered his name. "Arron, eh? Nice to meet you. Glad to have such a formidable ally. I'm Leifang." She crossed her arms, her pose shifting not to disinterest but more relaxed as she studied the place they found themselves in. Her eyes were drawn to the gleaming tower that looked completely out of place. "I'm guessing that's where I'm scouting...?" she asked, waving her hand in that direction.

Arron nodded, the smile fading as his eyes took in that gleaming of tower. "The name going around for it is Sunhold Sanctum. They claim to be working for Tyral, god over the flying nation of Indelca. Whether that means Indelca is behind this or they only use Tyral's sacred name to justify their bloodshed, I don't know. But it is my job by Evvie and Lady and Lord Kairn to found out and help the people of these lands." He looked back down to Leifang, a fire in his eyes that would make any enemy quiver. "We can't fail here."

Lady Starlit Creed

((Sorry for the delays here! Let's get into it twisted For RP purpose, you are in Hyjon at the same time as Blood; early morning, a couple of hours before sun up.))

It was quiet in the town. Quiet virtually everywhere. While the duo made no attempts to hide, there were no eyes to spy them at their distance. The town was unlit; it's inhabitants still asleep but soon to rise. Dawn was approaching..s and with it came soldiers. Though it was largely dark, with only the stars and moon to light their path, their armor gleamed bright through the night. Full suits; plated metal; it was hard to tell exactly how many were coming in from the road as they moved in tight formation. Clearly more than a score, but not a true brigade. They marched in step with one another, weapons sheathed with two of the Knights on either side hoisting banners up over their group, their threads radiant gold even before the sunrise. The emblem they war was an open hand clad by a golden gauntlet, it's fingers clutching the heart of the sun. Its beams burst through the hand's fingers and immolated the gauntlet as a part of its fire. It was one of Tyral's many holy signs, except that the hand was armored. It was an addition that served as a testament to their order.

"Hold! Old man, you linger in the night, out of doors. What say you in you defense?"

The person being addressed would be visible with a slight adjustment of Leifang and Arron's position. It was an old, haggard, unamused looking man. He was blowing smoke rings and standing on the deck of the town's Tavern, whose only weathered sign was leaned against the establishment porch and read "T-e P-e-sant Omen." He had been seating in a sun-bleached chair when the Knights began to speak, and as they finished he rose to standing. "This is MY tavern, fair Knights." The old man's tone was far more irritated than fearful. "Travellers come and go in the night, and I intend to greet them here with the hope of some business. That is my right."

"There shall be no more traveler's on the roads at night." One Knight responded stoically, and as the group came to a stop before the Tavern they fanned out to face its proprietor. The elder didn't move, and kept on smoking as the bannermen drove their standards into the dirt. The Knight at their head marched up to the old man with a document in his hand; a scroll by the look of it. The Knight extended it to the old man while his off hand remained on the pommel of his sword. "In the absence of your failed Lord, Wormwood has grown rotten with evil. We are the Swords of Salvation, ordained by The Morning Lord and Blessed Tyral himself. This town and its inhabitants have a new Lord; one who enforces The Tenants of Tyral. As Hyjon's Rest's Tavern Owner, you are charged with enforcing these Tenants and committing them to heart. Tyral commands it."

"Does he?" The old man blew his smoke towards the Knight's document. "I'd thought the Lord of Light too lazy to give orders." His dry remark was not well received. "Mark your blasphemy now, and never speak it again. This is your charged, and it is not negotiable. You will mount these Tenants at your Tavern's door and inform every one of your neighbors. You will report transgressions to us." With a disinterested grunt, the old man took the document from the Knight's hand. He did not need to look it over long before his eyes glared back to their issuer. "This is outrageous. By what right do you give such orders? In all my life I have never seen your banners. You expect me to assist you in enforcing this... this is martial law?"

A few of the Knights began to move onto the Tavern's porch, and without a moment's hesitation they moved past the Tavern keeper, opened the door and entered the establishment. "What is this? What are you doing?"

"I find your lack of faith disturbing, Griswold. Your works she light on your lack of trust. We are deliverance from the darkness. Help us to restore Tyral's favor in the Swamp. Tell us, are you a good man? Do you cast your soul's lot with the Creators, or do you shelter the faithless? Do not attempt to deceive me, old man. We are His sword, the bane of night, and no lie shall go unseen."

"My faith is mine alone, and none of your damned business," Griswold growled. Before he was accosted by two Knights -seizing him at both shoulders- he was informed, "You will accompany us as your property is searched."

Arron watched in confusion. "This isn't right. Hyjon's Rest was suppose to be already under occupation," Arron growled. "I'm gonna throttle Karma for her exaggerating..." He looked to Leifang. "It seems I wasn't properly informed. If you don't want to head in, I'll understand. But I will protect you should you still want to."

Silently, Leifang regarded the tower called Sunhold Sanctum with curiosity. She wondered how it had been so easy to slip into a nation and raise their own banners. Was that a statement of the broken spirits of Wormwood or was it a testament to the Swords of Salvation's strength? If she was truly called to this place to help, she wouldn't turn down the chance to prove she could provide it. The kakurenbo returned his gaze with unwavering determination. "We won't fail."

Her red eyes turned to the town of Hyjon's Rest and watched as a parade of shining knights marched through the streets. No doubt they were the ones hailing from the tower. She stiffened slightly at the sight of them, but was reassured when they did not turn to them. As she slowly got closer, she could make out the argument between the inn keeper and one of the Knights. Her eyes narrowed before she returned her gaze to Arron as he spoke. "What? False information or not, we have a job to do. We'll just have to improve with our plan now." She smiled slightly behind her mask, even though he couldn't see it, before she slowly walked along the outskirts of the town.

"Yes, I will." Came old man Griswold's growling reply as the two Knight's holding him began to push him back, off of his porch and into the tavern's now open door. The Knight that appeared to be in command turned to regard the others still outdoors. "Gorton, you are charged with seeing the old to the wagon with your lot. Trent, Barcel, into the tavern with the others while we rouse the village." "It shall be done," came their simultaneous affirmation of orders. Four of the 14 Knights still outside turned around and headed back the way they came. The ten that remained split into pairs. Each pair, save those named Barcel and Trent that flanked their Captain, walked to the nearest homes and began pounding on the silents houses' doors. The note trio disappeared into The "Pleasant" Omen.

As the village was shaken from is slumber, something else was starting to pound. It was much louder than a metal fist; the sickly grass around the tavern pulsed under the influence of its bass.sounded.There were shouts coming from inside of the Tavern, ones that drew the attention of the nearest Knights' attention. Shouts that abruptly became screams, as a large green ball of caustic pseudo-liquid blasted through the tavern's front wall. Without walls to bind them inside, the screams grew louder still, overtaking the shouts of alarm from the Knights outside with piercing howls of unspeakable pain. Smoke wafted up off of the magic's point of impact, but no fire came... only the chemical stink of acid sizzling through metal and meat.

One of the Knights ran out the tavern's front door. He was missing his helmet- on second glance he was not. It's meticulous craftsmanship and engravings were bubbling out and down his skinless melting face. The man had enough time to clutch his face and fall to his knees before the same hungry green power chewed through the tavern's threshold as a column of the same sickly, scintillating green substance. The unfortunate Knight's body became a silhouette of shimmering gold in the spray of the noxious discharge, before he slumped into the porch's wooden floor and through it as the area became a soup of liquified wood, earth, armor and flesh.

Hyjon's Rest was no longer at rest. In the unfolding pandemonium those Knights that were visible moved to rally together. Hovel doors crack open, and opened further at the gruesome spectacle. The tavern's roof was sagging forward over the front wall's ruin while what remained of its wood dripped slowly down to the ground. Griswold was in sight, inside, his face grim and joyless and his old gnarled hands sweeping a gnarled black knot of wood at the few -four- Knights that could be seen standing "indoors," weapons drawn and shields up as they tried to advance towards him across pools of gray-green meaty muck.

Arron looked on in dismay, appalled at the wanton displays of violence in such an ungodly pursuit. "Leifang, I'm sorry but we're gonna need to make a slight change to the mission. You need to help Griswold out of the collapsing building. I'll draw the men away." Plating grew out of Arron's skin, covering him head to toe in his natural armor. Crashing out of the swamp growth, an inhuman roar washed over the knights. "Tyral can suck on Grix's hairy nuts!"

Leifang watched the spectacle of dissolving wood and flesh, mesmerized until Arron drew her attention away. She bit her lip under her mask, thinking before nodding. "Got it." She waited, watching the armor sprout across her nation-kin's body before smirking and slinking off a little to the side, circling around the outskirts of the tavern's lawn. As the other Knights were busy rallying up the rest of the town, the foxgirl slunk forward, quickly darting to the side of another building as she watched the four Knights advancing on Griswold. He seemed to have the situation under control--she wouldn't dare to mess with someone who could spit acid from a staff--but then again, the Knights were proving their worth in battle so far. Leifang simply waited, eyes narrowed to slits behind her mask, for the Knights to challenge Arron instead of the "defenseless" tavern owner. Then she would jump forward and help out.

Of the many Knights, 7 remained. Four, including the Captain among them, squared off against Griswold. Three sought to advance into the tavern without falling into the liquid that had borne such a gruesome fate to all the rest. At Arron's war cry all faces turned -many opening homes slammed shut at the frightening call- but the Knights themselves were not fazed; if the consumption of their comrades did not have them running, the Vestitor would not either. Griswold's gnarled wooden catalyst raised towards the two Knights at his left side, but their Captain was on guard. His longsword swept out before him in a whistling crescent at the same time as Griswold moved to attack. The space was closed. The old man's raised arm opened. With a grunt Griswold stumbled backwards onto the shield of the knight behind him; his right hand falling limp to his side as the black knot of wood tumbled from his fingers and red ribboned down his forearm.

"Melur! To the stables!" the Knight Captain bellowed, "Take a horse back to Sunhold! News of this travesty shall not go unheard!" The Knight named Melur, stockier in armor and wielding a halberd beside the Captain, acknowledged his Captain's orders by turning from Griswold and the trio within as he barreled through the weathered planks of the tavern's side door. It opened off its hinges with a feeble groan. "To me, Santo! To me, Victor!" Melur roared as he broke through the door and his boots hit the dirt. Two of the three outside looked directly to him, and raised their shields as they defensively maneuvered their way towards his position.

The final Knight that outside the tavern was first and fastest to engage Arron. His kite shield out before him, he charged to meet the Vestitor with his sword arm out behind him. When they connected, his shield would be first to push off Arron's blows and his blade would come second, straight down to bite the abomination in its face. His goading was met by stone faced silence. Beyong him, the tavern echoed with triumphant tones.

"REJOICE BROTHERS! The Dark shows itself at Dawn. It shall be slain!" Captain Farkas exclaimed as Griswold was bashed from the shield behind him, sending his meager frame stumbling -now falling- to the floor. As the Captain raised his right arm he towards the ceiling he dropped his longsword and caught it in his left. Where it once had been now grew a blade of gleaming light. It thrust the remains of the tavern into the brilliant hues of daylight as Griswold scrambled to seize his trinket. The Captain's armored heel slammed down upon the elder's hand. You didn't have to be close to know that bones were broken. Trent, Barcel. Flank the heretic who beds with Grix. Griswold..." The duo by the Captain's side moved immediately, bounding out from the corroded front of the tavern with pike -Trent- and shield -Barcel- raised before them, beelining to meet Arron on opposite fronts. "You are delivered back to the darkness..." Farkas finished, his blade of light winding over his shoulder in preparation to chop down on his prostrate target.

Amidst all of this, Lei Fang went unnoticed.

Arron bellowed a warcry, shaking the bones of those who may be near him. A sword flew through the men, seeking out the heart of the man who was about to murder Griswold. He backpedaled as he did so, using the force of the attacking man's sheild blocking to move him faster so he could avoid a sword to his face. Arron gripped his remaining sword tightly, not knowing if his attack would give Leifang the window she would need to help the man.

Sword throw
C
Not recommended if you're only carrying one sword. The Warrior throws the sword, and it travels at the speed of an arrow. It deals rank B damage if it hits.
