What will you do when the lights go out?

Earth Hour 2012 is March 31st, 8:30 PM (regardless of your time zone). For one hour (8:30 to 9:30 PM), people across the globe are encouraged to shut off their lights for one hour. My question is, what do you plan to do when the lights are out? Do you plan to spend time outside? Enjoy a candlelight dinner? Howl at the moon? Post your plans here.

If you are an Earth Hour detractor, please post your anti-Earth Hour views in a separate thread. Thanks.

My monthly electricity bill (when we were in charge of it) was a whopping $10-$13, so while I am not a detractor because I approve of the idea of it, I probably won't participate. If I am not spending my time on my computer, I am reading (often on the computer, and impossible on paper here at 8:30 with no lights, dark comes at 7!) or cooking (still electrical). Or planting things I suppose, but I can't really do that in the pitch-dark either! xd

Wouldn't it be better to do this during the daylight hours? That way schools and some businesses could participate at least partially. Schools have their lights on all day, even if they don't really need the extra lights. Same with stores that have enough windows.
I'm sure the idea is that you should be affected by it, but I think that the idea would be much more striking if you could cause people to realize that they AREN'T affected by turning off the lights most of the time.

Besides, how is one supposed to use a windowless bathroom in the dark? lol

I put the detractor part in there because I remember reading an Earth Hour thread that got hijacked by the nae-sayers. It might not have been here.

xd I do have a windowless bathroom here, actually. Every time we have a power outage we have to take a flashlight. It is pretty comical. We just got a couple small LED lanterns, so maybe we will use those from now on.

I plan on participating. The last two times my family did this with me and we just sat around the living room in the dark talking. I know that sounds a bit weird, but it was actually nice. No television, no computers, no cell phones, just pure uninterrupted family time.

More people need to do that. :3 I hope this Earth Hour is as fruitful for you. <3

I'm going to be lame and say that I probably won't participate. Like rilsin, our energy usage is very minimal. It'll also be dark here are 8:30 and my boyfriend has computer work to do. (So much so he stays up well after I've gone to bed.)

It'd be nice if Earth Hour was moved to the summer, so you could take advantage of the weather and daylight. I'd rather be outside walking for an hour than inside on a cold dreary day twiddling my thumbs.

I too have a windowless bathroom. I'm an bat/owl so using it in the dark doesn't bother me. (I do my eyebrows in the hall where there's a mirror I can stand closer to with less harsh light.) When I shower I have the door open since the fan is broken and if I need extra light, I have a beeswax candle. It makes shower very spa-y. Granted I live with only my boyfriend so it doesn't bother me to have the door open to shower.

I just realized that I can "technically" participate. My laptop battery should last for at least an hour razz

It will feel like cheating, but I might do it if I remember to.

I will make a Facebook page! or join an existing one and send out invites. One hour? No problem. Remembering this? Maybe problem. heheh.

Earth Hour occurs while I am at work so I will not be able to participate.
Pretty sure my boss would not agree to putting the lights out in the store.
