Orion Mckenzie Storm

Yamaku High School was known to get transfer students from other schools often. Storm had come to realize this as soon as he stepped through the gates. Today was quite literally his very first day here. His parents had already taken his bags to his room and sent him towards the office to check in. The process of checking into the school was simple enough. It was just that it took him travel time.

Once he had been all set up it was lunch time. Impeccable timing if he said so himself, which he didn't. Orion, or Storm as he was more likely known as; he'd been part of a terrible accident. Losing left arm, damaging the nerves in his shoulders, knees, and feet, not to mention his manic depression that followed it. His family had out right admitted to sending him to Yamaku simply to get rid of him. They didn't want to have to work around him, it would be too much hassle.

Orion was given directions and one of the nurses assistants helped him to the lunch room. Once he was there however he didn't know where to sit or if he was even hungry.

Orion had a look that said the world was doomed, but at the same time managed to not look unpleasant.

She had been going to Yamaku for three years. She'd had progressive Lupus disease for nearly ten. She didn't know what to do about it when it first came up. She didn't understand how serious it was. Then again neither did the doctors. They all thought it was a mild case, something she would be able to work around. It only took a year for it to eat away at the muscles in her legs. She had a pair of crutches that strapped to her wrists. Though it wouldn't be long until she couldn't use those either. Her arms were starting to give out on her. There wasn't much she could do about it, she was on all the pills, the injections, even a few monthly procedures.

Nicole was sitting in the lunchroom with her friends. Jusuichi was among them. Nicole and her had been friends for awhile. Both of them helped each other around. Nicole could hold on to her wheelchair and walk behind her, plus when she got tired she could sit on the back and just ride along. People had come to know them as inseparable. Today they were having fun turning cookie dough into molded creatures. Nicole had made her's into a telephone box and was currently modeling a small man to stand next to it.

~If Today Was Your Last Day~

For a school such as it was, Yamaku High had an extensive sports program. Naturally, the exercise doubled as physical therapy for most of the students. Zoe herself was very involved in the sports program. She worked as a sort of manager helping to make sure that all the teams had the equipment they needed and such. It was a bittersweet thing, since until two years ago she was rarely seen on the sidelines.

Two years ago, through a series of events, she had gone from rising tennis star to teenage arrhythmia patient. The doctors said that it was only because of her fitness that she had held off an attack, and she was lucky to have made it as long as she had. For a long time, Zoe didn't see it that way. But, thanks to a lot of support and ton of stubbornness she had worked herself back into what she would consider decent shape.

Today she was running an easy practice with some of the track members. She couldn't fully participate in high stress sports yet but she was determined to get there eventually. The bell chimed for lunch and Zoe began her cool down. By the time she got to the cafeteria it was packed with chattering students. She noticed one in particular was looking a bit lost. He seemed to be a bit agitated, but not wholly off putting.

Zoe walked up beside him as casually as she could given the situation. "Hello." she said with a slight tilt to her head, "Are you looking for someone?" The fact that he was using crutches or missing a limb wasn't jarring for her. Around Yamaku it wasn't uncommon at all.

When it came to problems, May didn't really have the right to claim she had it hard. Ever since she'd come to Yamaku, she noticed that a lot of people had it way worse then her. Mind you most of them had something simple showing or nothing showed at all. People weren't exactly looking like they just came from a chop shop...well she did, but she never worried about that too much. May accepted the fact that she looked like some kind of rag'doll. In fact she had come to embrace it in a sense. In short, she didn't let it bother her...even if it bothered some other people. After all her illness wasn't natural, it was accidental.

May was one of those strange girls. The ones that you think, "Oh she could never hurt a fly."; but she was always hanging out with the -bad- people. Those kids that were rebels or just generally seen as bad people. May didn't seem to notice how this effected her reputation. Some people thought she was just a really good actress. Others figured she was being used. Especially when the first person she became friends with was Jean-Frae. Some might say she was the badass gangster type. According to May, she was a soft hearted, hard shelled, sweetie pie, that was super great. No one would believe that with the record that Jean-Frae had. However it was impossible to change May's mind about it.

May was rather impossible to miss. Whether she was in her school uniform or her regular close she was a paradigm of color and patters. From her hat to her bag and down to her shoes. She always had a smile and if you were close enough the scars were a dead give away. Unlike smooth scars, she had large horrible gashes that looked like jagged blades all over her skin. It looked like something tore into her, or possibly tried to tear out of her. Some kids made the superstition that May had a demon in her and it had tried to tear it's way out leaving these horrible scars. Anyone who believed it was scared of her, but most recognized it as a stupid rumor and nothing more.

Standing in the hall outside of the lunchroom she was leaning heavily on the wall just to the left of the door. Her hands shivered lightly at her sides and she looked out of breath and tired. She was still smiling though, and anyone who knew her; knew this was how she always was. She squirmed out of her bag's strap and then sat on the floor. She folded her legs under her and continued to wait for her friend. Because Jean-Frae was a senior she had a slightly longer class and her lunch started ten minutes after May's. May always waited for her, just like her friend always walked her back to her class. Which meant she left her lunch early. It was kinda like a ritual. It only took ten minutes off of both of their lunches. So it wasn't that big of a deal in their minds.

Orion Mckenzie Storm

A few minutes standing there and he already wanted to disappear. To melt into the shadows and just be forgotten. He wanted nothing more then to be gone from this place. To hide in the room he was provided. Orion was certainly not a people person. However by the nurse clearing her throat it was obvious he would have to make a decision quickly.

It seemed one was being made for him. A young girl with bright red pigtails came up to him. She was trying to be casual. He looked at her, but it appeared as a half intended glare. His sea-green eyes empty of that sparkle most people seemed to have. He appeared to have glassy, almost dead like eyes. His glasses were tinted a few shades away from the cast on his foot. The single crutch keeping him balanced for the time being.

Orion seemed to let the question sink in and then turned his head back to the crowded room. "No. I wouldn't be. I don't know anyone." His voice was quiet and flat. It sounded like a badly tuned guitar hitting a low note and cracking just slightly. The Nurse that accompanied him cleared her throat once more and Orion twitched. He turned and glared at the woman. "Stop being impatient. I will sit when I desire to! Now leave me alone!" He growled forcefully without raising his voice even an octave. The woman withdrew slightly and sighed shaking her head. "I'll be in the room if you need me." She stated calmly and walked over to one of the teachers' tables.

He didn't look back at the girl or the nurse. He simply went back to staring apathetically at the bustling room. His temper causing him to frown and look all together unpleasant. He seemed to be considering leaving by the way his eyes flickered towards the door. However his stomach argued with him and grumbled rather loudly. 'That's right...I never ate breakfast or brunch. They were in too much of a hurry to get rid of me.' Orion thought this too himself and glared at the offending organ's placement as if he could force it to shut up.

~If Today Was Your Last Day~

It seemed Zoe's new acquaintance was not a people person. Between brushing her off and snapping at the nurse following him, Zoe briefly wondered if this was a mistake. Then her stubbornness kicked in. She wasn't about to give up just because some one was prickly with her. He was obviously new to Yamaku and using his anger to hide himself. "Well, I'm Zoe Raymond and I'm a Junior. I like tennis and reading, and my favorite food is pancakes." She spoke in the guy's general direction then leaned a little closer. "There! Now you know someone."

She was about to continue when the others' stomach grumbled. Was he just going to stand here and watch people eat because he didn't want to actively talk to anyone? She looked around the cafeteria and spied a nice secluded corner that could prove useful. It was close to the lunch line too, which was perfect. She turned back to him and said, "Look, let's at least get you a place to sit and something to eat and then I promise you don't have to talk to me anymore if you don't want." She started walking towards the rail that signaled the beginning of the food line. She got a couple steps away and looked back to see if her mysterious stranger was going to follow.

This is it, boys, this is war - what are we waiting for?
Why don't we break the rules already?
I was never one to believe the hype - save that for the black and white
I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked,
but here they come again to jack my style
And that's alright;
I found a martyr in my bed tonight
She stops my bones from wondering just who I am?

Jean-Frae's class ended and the lunch bell went off. She looked at the clock and knew that May would be waiting for her. Now the question was, where? May could be anywhere from the roof to the hallway. So Jean-Frae decided to start nearest to the lunch room and move her way further out. She figured since they hadn't said differently that should mean that May would be in the easiest spot. But, that wasn't a rule or anything.

Mostly Jean-Frae just hoped that her friend wasn't in trouble again. May was well liked, don't get her wrong. However due to the fact that she had friends like...well Jean-Frae; she got a lot of crap from people. May never really seemed to notice that she was getting picked on or the fact that those accidents weren't accidents at all. It made the tall blond sigh and shake her head. She hurried her pace a bit to get to the hallway faster.

Like she'd thought the slightly younger girl was there in the hall outside of the lunchroom. Jean-Frae was almost expecting the door to open and smack the silly woman. "May!" Her voice had this undertone of anger to it. Though she wasn't upset at anyone really. She was just naturally toned to sound like she was going to kill you. However as she got that bright smile turned towards her she motioned a finger to the other. "Come on! I want to get lunch and then have a smoke."

About four minutes past the ten minute mark, a familiar voice rang out through the hall. May's smile just appeared like sunlight through a cloud cover. She turned to look at the taller light brown haired woman. She heard the -order- and grinned even wider. She nodded her head and jumped to her feet. She moved so fast her head spun and she wobbled a bit. Her knees threatened to give out on her and she grabbed the wall to balance herself. "I'm okay!" She announced and then sorta wobble, skipped, bounded to Jean-Frae. She grabbed her arm and leaned against her lightly for support.

"Today is Nachos!"
She proclaimed happily and lead the way to the cafeteria. Using the taller girl as a bit of a crutch. Her pains were getting worse again, but she'd be fine once she got some calcium and her pills. Which they kept here in the cafeteria for her since she had to take them when she was eating. Until they got through the line, she would just snuggle up to Jean-Frae and walk comfortably. Jean-Frae knew what pace she needed to go without May saying a single word.

They made their way to the cafeteria and strange looks were given all around. May looked around briefly and caught sight of Zoe Raymond. She'd seen her around before. It was hard to miss the happy go lucky girl with the bright red pigtails. She seemed to have found a new target to entertain. It made May giggle and look up at her friend. "I want chocolate milk." She pouted childishly and then giggled happily.

The girl was annoyingly optimistic and talkative. Orion didn't really like people like that, but at the same time he also couldn't really hate them. He just found them a little annoying. He was getting tired just standing there and her energy was reminding him why he hated people so much. They could do the things that he couldn't and simple things without getting so tired.

Zoe wasn't wrong though, he was hungry and getting something to eat would be nice. So he actually did follow her to the line. As soon as the nurse saw him move she stood up and came to join him. Standing next to him."I'll carry it for you, and then dismiss myself." She tried to reassure him. Though quickly noticed he wasn't too happy with the idea, but didn't say anything.

Going through the line the nurse asked him where he was sitting. He grumbled under his breath something random and shrugged. "Where Zoe wants to sit I suppose." He stated factly and waited for the girl to choose a spot. As long as it wasn't really crowded and he got off his feet he'd be happy. His left foot was killing him and his right one was starting to go numb. So he hoped they hurried up.

May did her little off balance dance over to Jean-Frae and then clung to her. The taller girl just put her hand in her pocket and let the girl use her for support. Jean-Frae actually cracked a tiny smile when the girl proclaimed the lunch menu. There were lots of other options of course, but Nachos were the girls favorite.

Jean-Frae nodded lightly and walked with the girl into the cafeteria. It was bustling like always, new people, old people, and people you just wanted to punch in the face. Then again that could just be her. It wasn't long until she was guided to the line and went through it. She took may's hand and put the long chain from her belt in it. "I'll carry your tray, just tell me what you want." She filled the two trays with food and lead the way. It looked amusing even to her. It was like leading a puppy through the room. However it was the easiest way for her to keep track of May.

She looked around for a place to sit. Normally she would just take it up to the roof, but today she wanted to get food into May before they tried to walk to far. "Pick a table. I want to eat first."

Jusuichise was having lunch with Nicole again. They were having fun making little sculptures with their cookie dough. While Nicole had made The Doctor, Jusuichise decided to make two daleks. She was giggling about it as she moved them towards the man at the phone booth. "Hey Nicole! Do you wanna go to the art room after class! I wanna finish my painting. Pleeeaaassseeee come with me!" She whined and pouted begging her friend to come along with her. After all that meant they could go to the nurses station afterwards together. She hated going by herself and always felt bad when Nicole went on her own.

Jusuichise had a progressive Neuropathy. Basically her nerves were being destroyed slowly. It only effected her legs so far, but it was spreading to her spine. They told her that if she didn't respond to the medicines then she would probably be completely paralyzed from the waist down. It scared her, but she knew there was nothing else she could do about it. Maybe it was selfish of her, but she liked being around Nicole because the girl understood what she was going through. Sure they had different diseases, but they had similar effects.

Junbei was running around the course for her final lap when the lunch bell went off. She picked up speed even though her lungs were starting to burn and her body shake. She got to the finish line and pretty much collapsed into the grass. Her chest heaving with ever labored breath. She was smiling though. Her eyes sparkling with achievement. Taking a deep breath in through her nose she practically screamed.

"I DID IT!"

Everyone just kind ignored her but some people laughed and she could help but roll on the grass in great excitement. She quickly got up and ran to the gym to remove her sweaty clothes and shower off quickly. She then ran up the stairs and out to the speech classroom. She peeked in the window by jumping up and could still see the person she was waiting for. Taking a deep breath she tapped on the door before going in.

The long haired blond beauty was still listening through a pair of headphones intently. She probably hadn't even noticed everyone else being gone. Junbei giggled and wrapped her arms around her. "Oiy! Hana! We gotta get lunch!" She tapped on the headphones playfully. If she knew Hana, which she did. She'd known the girl since they were in grade school. Then the woman wouldn't want to miss lunch for anything.

They were working on high tension syllables today in speech class. Which of course was on of Hana's worst sections. She could do soft sounds and vowels without problem, but harsh noises were just impossible. Her tongue hated to do what she wanted. Plus she couldn't read the words quite right. It might not seem like much, but it really annoyed her sometimes. It made things difficult for her.

Hana was quickly assaulted from behind. The small warm arms wrapping around her and the tapping on the headphones gave it away. Hana took off her headphones and kissed her friends cheek before nodding. "Uu...Ohey." She stuttered and packed up her things.

Hana's vice was extreme gluttony. She loved food and never seemed to get full. Junbei had made the joke that all the weight went to her breasts. Honestly Hana couldn't really argue that there might be something to that. However it was silly all the same. Then again Junbei was always jealous of her height and body. Maybe it was because they were such opposites? "Lead th-he wuu-way."

Follow Jean'Frae was always fun. She got a hold of the chain and giggled lightly. It didn't occur to her what it must look like to those around them. She just thought it was a fun way to stick together. It was like when you're little and have the safe rope to hold onto. Or like holding hands! May thought it was rather normal really. At least to her. It wasn't like no one had ever seen two friends walking together.

Once their trays were full with Nachos, apples, cookie dough, chocolate milk, and May had three different types of juice boxes on hers; they would normal go up to the roof. However today Jean'Frae chose differently. May was a little surprised but nodded and looked around. When she caught a glimpse of the table that Zoe and a young boy were sitting at she grinned and pointed. Knowing Jean'Frae didn't really care one way or another.

Leading the way she stopped by the table and waved to the two. "Hi there! Do you mind if we join you?" She asked politely and hyperactively. May might not hang out with people other then her best friend a lot, but she talked to anyone who would talk to her. Zoe pretty much talked to anyone, so they had had a few conversations before.
