Merope gave a contented sigh as he wiggled his talons in the wet sand, simply basking in the sensation. He lifted his head and stared at the waves as they came in, only to recede back before it reached where he stood. It was soothing to be so close to home again. It didn't matter if he couldn't recognize this particular beach. All oceans were one, after all.

Reluctantly, he turned his head away from the water and looked around, trying to focus on the task at hand. "So, if I'm understanding correctly," he began slowly. "We're supposed to take some sand, wet sand, and put it in a bucket? Then turn the bucket over to create a... lump of wet sand, then create lumps on lumps to eventually build a castle out of it? And then decorate it?" Merope inquired, looking at his group imploringly. He was an ocean-dweller. The activities of the shore were completely lost on him.

He glanced back towards the water, hinting. "I don't think I get it still, but if there's something we need from the ocean..."

Willow was standing there listening to Merope. She'd actually dressed for the beach, this wasn't a place for dresses or anything that'd really get in the way so a bathing suit with a pair of pants had been settled for, as well as a nice hat. Her tail swayed as she watched the water letting her toes flex in the warm sand. "Pretty much."

She nodded her head looking down at the sand and then towards the water again. "Generally it's suppose to be fun." She added with a small nod of her head, there was a pause. "I guess you don't have sand castles where you're from?" She'd done something similar when she was little so the concept wasn't completely lost.

Her tail flickered as she thought. "We're going to need some stuff considering they're talking about decoration. Water'll be a big help too." She was looking towards the rest of the group her eyes were shielded from the sun by the large hat she'd chosen to wear. "What do you guys think we should get?" She had been looking around at the stuff available icy eyes having spotted a clam shell, along with some other things like pools of water, coconuts, sand dollars, and sea urchins.

Though she wasn't sure what everyone else saw or liked for decoration, and she wasn't sure if she should bring up what she'd been eying.

Ulmuka had arrived fully dressed. He hadn't thought much about the beach being different than normal. Once he'd arrived and seen everyone in swimsuits (which he didn't own himself) he'd merely stripped down to his pants. The strix was very very thin and tall and after his shoes came off it was revealed that his feet were just as dangerously taloned, if not more so, than his hands.

He was enjoying the sun by stretching out his wings to absorb the heat. The strix meandered around his team mates and left taloned foot prints in the sand. He was watching the gnomes carefully as they distributed 'Signature Items'.

"We pick one of those first.. hmm?" The sight of the fake bird made him giggle. HE WANTED ONE! Do you think even if his team didn't pick it, that a gnome would let him carry one around? "Perhaps Merope can fish us up something from the ocean?! I am not knowoledgable about castle building." His head tilted to the side.

He was going to burn. No, fry was more of the exact word Joachim thought as he held his hand above his squinting eyes as he tried to make out his teammates. In his other hand his favorite pair of white boots were as his feet dug into the warm sand. His jacket was slung over his arm and his shirt fluttered in the breeze, even his hair that looked as if it was a brush fire consuming his face as the sun caught it. He loathed this place, Merel and the others however were rather enjoying it. The black mouse waved to the three other white mice that scurried along the edge of the water taking turns shaking their fist at it and then running as the tide threaten to soak them.

Neatly folding his jacket into a square and placing it on the ground, Joachim wrinkled his nose as he continued to squint at who he assumed was Willow considering she was majority orangish. "Fun?........ .......... I think this is more of the opposite of fun....mmhhhh.......... more like....errr torture...."

Torture was putting in politely personally, but he like the rest of his teammates tried to look around from sort of objects to decorate the sandcastle but most of them just looked like junk and partially blurry items in the sand. Too bad his sister wasn't around she would have put Merel in a dress and she could have been the queen of the castle, though he wasn't sure if that counted really as a decoration just an inhabitance.

Finally, not a puzzle. Amarus could do building. She loved such tangible tasks. Besides, if she could focus on that, perhaps it would become less disgusting to be somewhere so... bright. So salty. Amarus preferred fire and dark to light and water, so this place was fairly repugnant to her. At least she didn't have to put sunscreen on. She did not even appear to own a second set of clothing, so she was dressed as she always was. Bells, and all. She had, however, removed the coverings on her feet, as they seemed to simply get wet and then full of sand. Unpleasant. Amarus would be useful at the prettiness portion of the sand-castle contest, but building... after destroying so many sturdy constructions, surely Amarus would be useful putting them together?

"Is it always... so bright out here?" she asked, nudging at some sand with her foot. She grinned at Muka, and agreed, "Yeah, if Merope wouldn't mind...? Maybe one of the signature items from the water is best... Clams are okay, though. Clams, starfish, I don't know." She didn't really care, she just wanted to get to the really important things, like assembling the castle proper. Amarus was all about the moats.

Amarus snorted when Joachim suggested it was torture to be out here. She didn't say anything, though, because really she was finding it quite unpleasant as well. At least she wouldn't fry, given she was a ghost; sometimes her resistance to physical temperatures was reassuring. More often than not, actually.

Willow tried not to laugh at Joachim as she took off her hat and handed it too him before taking out one of her hair ties. "Here let me help."

She took his hair and twisted it slightly so she could get the tie on it. and fixed it so it was off his neck. "There, now you can wear the hat too, it'll help some." She'd worn a rather large hat for a reason after all. She wasn't sure who'd be ready for the beach and whom wouldn't.

"Clams are always nice I think. They can be a nice little topper to a tower." She said as she made sure Joachim's hair was off his neck. She paused looking at them, "I'm not going be the only one to enjoy this am I?"

It was warm out but that's why she wore a lack of clothing and if she had to, she could take off her pants since she did wear a bikini she wasn't afraid to show skin if it was going to keep her from dying of heat exhaustion.

After she finished the tiger settled into the sand and started doodling a simple plan. "Yes I'm sure Merope can find some really nice items in the ocean to help decorate. I'm not a fan of salt water or I'd offer to help." It was the only thing she didn't like, the salt taste was horrid and impossible to get out one's mouth. The ghoul pondered as she sat there with the doodles. "Since there's five of us do each of us want to make a tower, there can be one in the middle and four around it and we could maybe build walls after that?" She asked looking up at them.

"If the mice want to help, I'm sure we could let them aid with the windows and doors. I'm sure the little details count." She looked at the rest of them for their opinions not to mention she was edger to start playing in the sand.

"Errr.... thank you for the hat.." He replied taking the hat in his hands, it was rather large and floppy however he assumed that it would be better than just frying in the sun. His face however flushed red as Willow pulled his rather curly fire like hair into a tie letting the light sea breeze cool it off. When she was done he crammed her floppy hat onto his head it was as if someone turned the sun down a few shades allowing him to see the beach again.

"Thank you Willow..." He replied digging his toes into the sand, one for her help, the other was the fact that he realized what she was wearing.

On the downside he didn't know how to build a sandcastle, building things was not his interest music was. But clam shells and starfishes all sounded like a good idea to him or at least they were something pretty like decorations. "What about driftwood.... but I definitely think we need some water... maybe.... I am not sure..... Umm..." Maybe he should leave the planning to Willow, he could just follow directions and direct his little mice.

"Sure... they can help with the windows as long as no one minds... a few mice prints here and there..... but they would I think love to help.... especially Merel." Actually the mouse would b rather upset if she didn't get the chance to help at all.

"Hello Merel!" Muka greeted the mouse first, "Hello Joachim." He giggled as the reaper donned a hat from the sun. He definitely looked miserable to be out there. The strix wasn't sure what sort of castle to build or really how to start but he was fine collecting things to put on the castle once it was finished!

"I will find things. Merope can search the water and I will search the beach." His taloned toes idly dug into the sand while he scanned their patch of beach. There were palm trees a way back with beach grasses growing beneath. He figured it was a good place as any to look since it was less boring then plain old stretches of sand.

The bird-boil shuffled over and began poking around with a long dune reed. He didn't need to poke much before he squawked triumphantly.

"I found something!!" With a flap he'd lifted himself and landed swiftly amongst his team mates. "A coconut!"

Don't eat it, Muka!

Clams. Clams were good. Sturdy. And perhaps if pried open, they could be prompted to reveal treasure within...? Amarus opened her mouth to voice her approval, then stopped as she watched Willow fix her hat onto Joachim's head, trying not to laugh.
"I like the idea of the clam." Finally, she affirmed this, and went back to rooting around in the sand. Even though the others were also searching, she had something in mind. Well, it was a battle-ready suggestion, after all:
"No matter what we put on... we should definitely use a moat. Without a doubt. What good is a moatless castle? That is like going into battle naked. Shameful."

Amarus walked above the sand, to avoid touching it, pulling her foot coverings back on. She waited for the team's approval before actually putting the moat in, especially since it would be best left until the end, after all. She also rooted by the shore, in order to find something that looked more ... weaponline. "Hey, team, what about a Sea Urchin?" She scooped it up in one hand, trying not to sting herself, and carried it over to the castle, dropping it down nearby.

Without further ado, Amarus set herself to building a firm and sturdy base for the sand castle.

A clam was fine with Joachim, he wasn't sure really what clams were really.... something with a shell by the looks of it but at least it looked pretty. "Sounds good to me as well at least it will be a nice topping for a tower."

Sitting down in the sand he started to follow along with Amarus in building a base for the castle, or at least what he thought what a base of a sandcastle would look like. The edge of the floppy hat made it difficult to look up Amarus's face (or the redness of his own) and he was no longer blind it was a win win situation. Meanwhile the group of mice that had been playing along the shore ran over in a group squeaking loudly as Merel remained perched in the middle. She held up a round white thing, something referred to as a sand dollar.

"Thank you Merel..... we could put this on it right?" He replied taking it from Merel and holding it up to the others. "If...no one minds..."

Willow's tail flickered as Muka returned with a coconut and Amarus mentioned sea urchins and a moat. There was a nod, "Yes I think those'll help a lot." She smiled as they all seemed to agree on the clam she looked to Merope.

"Do you think you could find us some more sea urchins? They look like they'd make great aerial defense." She said with a nod. After all, they were a water creature. She paused when Merel held up a sand dollar. "Maybe see if you can find a few more of those? I think it'll make a good side decoration." She smiled, "What do you think about the clam?" She asked him as she watched others starting to build.

There was a pause before she started pitching in too. They could have this thing built in no time hopefully. "So, after this I think the towers should be in the middle and then the wall on the outside before doing the moat. Okay?"

Merel squeaked happily to Willow before turning her attention back to the rest of the mice and directing them to the shore to look for more.

Joachim nodded at Willow and started to form some walls by smooshing the sand in between the palms of his hands. He wasn't sure if he was doing it right or if the towers should be up first but he was trying to follow along with what was said.
PostPosted: Tue Mar 06, 2012 9:23 pm

Muka now was pacing the patch of sand trying to figure out where he could help. Amarus had begun working a mound of sand and the shirtless strix was hoping to figure out something he could do to be helpful and not get in her way.

Thankfully Willow clued him in.

"Oh!! Walls! I can do that!" Instead of sitting he simply crouched and begun digging up sand and piling it up in a long row that would, hopefully, end up circling the building and be fashioned into a wall.

Merope shook his head negatively towards Willow. "Nuh-uh. This is going to be my first time." He paused awkwardly, trying to think. If what he read on the Interwebs was true, wasn't it a bad thing to admit that it was your first time when you were male? It was true that he sometimes did become a she, and a female admitting that it was her first time was perfectly acceptable in situations. Did the same thing apply to sand castles? He tapped his exposed teeth thoughtfully, tearing his gaze away from the water to watch his teammates thoughtfully.

As Muka volunteered to search the beach, Merope took his cue from him and turned, running towards the ocean with a whoop. He splashed around in the waves before diving under, vanishing from sight.

While Merope spent a majority of his undead and pre-undead life in the ocean, there was one large drawback to this plan that he neglected to tell his teammates: he was an awful swimmer in his humanoid form. The long length of his arms and legs never failed to get in his way. In his natural form his limbs were short and powerful, streamlined for the least resistance underwater. Humanoid? He had no idea what to do with his arms and legs.

Merope flailed about underwater for a time, making little progress before going Jack this and letting himself sink. Once he was on the bottom, Merope began to walk around and search.

A little while later, Merope triumphantly returned to his team. "Guys! Guys! Look at this!" He called, holding up what looked to be a lobster. "We can have a guard and everyth-" The undead boil was cut off as a seagull cried out and swooped down, plucking the lobster from his fingers. The boil unsuccessfully jumped up and tried to swipe at the seagull, but by then it was long gone.

"...Whelp," he began, shifting his talons awkwardly in the sand. "At least I managed to find some more things?"

From his pockets, Merope produced a couple more sea urchins along with a few more sand dollars. He had even found bits of broken clear glass which he began to carefully snap apart and press up against the walls that were already put up, giving them a bright and rather delightful glint.

With that complete and with a bit of direction, Merope began scooping out sand around the castle to form the moat.
