This is a mock gym battle. In a real match you wouldn't put the word mock in the title or trainer. You would put Insert City Gym Vs. Bob for example. In these official matches the challenger to the gym will go first but they have to abide but the Gym Leader's rules. If the Gym Leader says that it's a two on two battle then that's what happens. If the Gym Leader forbids challengers from using a type advantage to determine your skill then that's what happens. The rules for each gym will be reviewed and approved by a moderator for fairness. Both the leader and the challenger must put what Pokémon they'll be using for the match along with the levels and moves known. The bottom of both battler's posts should look like this:

Rattata (Joey)/Male/Caught: Gift/Level: 25/Ability: Run Away/Atk: Tackle/Atk: Tail Whip/Atk: Quick Attack/Atk: Focus Energy
Tentacool/female/Caught: Sea Route 1/Level: 20/Ability: Clear Body/Atk: Poison Sting/Atk: Supersonic/Atk: Constrict/Atk: Acid

For this demonstration I'll be using my nondescript Trainer from earlier along with their Rattata and Tentacool. By now my Trainer's made forty more posts and leveled both Pokémon up eight levels. This isn't an issue for Tentacool because she's still willing to listen but Rattata's starting to think that Trainer's not good enough for him and isn't listening as well as he once did so the battle's going to be tough.

Finally they were ready to take a gym battle! They had trained for a long time and it hadn't been easy but they were finally there. The unfortunate side effect of all that training meant that Joey the Rattata had gotten a lot more powerful and he just wasn't listening as well as he once had. He acted out in and out of battle even though he and his Trainer had been together for so long. Soon Tentacool wouldn't be listening as well either so it was important that they win this badge to prove that listening to their Trainer was worth it!

Nervousness subsiding the doors were pushed open and the Trainer walked in to find the Leader standing across from him on a plain field of battle. The rules had been posted outside: one on one battles only, two Pokémon each, substitutions allowed.

"I'm challenging you to a match," said the Trainer with more confidence than they really felt. First out was Tentacool. She was weaker than Joey but she still listened better and that's what was important right now.

Rattata (Joey)/Male/Caught: Gift/Level: 25/Ability: Run Away/Atk: Tackle/Atk: Tail Whip/Atk: Quick Attack/Atk: Focus Energy
Tentacool/female/Caught: Sea Route 1/Level: 20/Ability: Clear Body/Atk: Poison Sting/Atk: Supersonic/Atk: Constrict/Atk: Acid

Note: In this mock battle the Leader's Ariados is being controlled by another RPer. This means that while the trainer can give his Pokémon commands and plan strategies it's up to the Pokémon's controller to execute said orders - or ignore them if the Pokémon feels they are unwise. Please remember that even though controlled Pokémon players do have the option of ignoring orders for whatever reason do not go overboard. Badges are known to Pokémon through the same kind of grapevine system humans have so they know that the more badges and types of badges a human has the better they are as a Trainer. Even Legendary Pokémon can respect someone who's managed to gather eight badges in a region because that means that their team is strong and that the Trainer is worth listening to.

The leader smiled at the kid's enthusiasm. "Fine by me," he replied, reaching for his own Pokeballs. With a simple flick of his wrist the trainer tossed a red-and-white sphere onto the battlefield, releasing his Ariados. "Alright then, let's get this started Ariados. Begin with Scary Face!"

Ariados/Male/Caught: Route 1/Level: 25/Ability: CompoundEyes/Atk: Leech Life/Atk: Bug Bite/Atk: Scary Face/Atk: Poison Sting
Pidgeot/Male/Caught: Route 1/Level: 36/Ability: Tangled Feet Atk: FeatherDance/Atk: Gust/Atk: Quick Attack/Atk: Twister

Note: This is a player controlled Ariados. The moves known by the spider are being placed at the bottom of this post to make things easier on the opponent. The moves are also there for the use of the PC (player controller) just in case they decide to ignore the Leader.

The Ariados stretched itself once it had been released from the ball then looked at the area. Another trainer to fight? It was never new but oh well. It could take out another Tentacool or whatever was out. The call for Scary Face was given so the Ariados shot off the image of a scary face to lower the Tentacool's speed.

Ariados/Male/Caught: Route 1/Level: 25/ Ability: CompoundEyes/Atk: Leech Life/Atk: Bug Bite/Atk: Scary Face/Atk: Poison Sting

Leader didn't take into account Tentacool's Clear Body ability so the move's going to do null to Trainer's Pokémon.

Tentacool's Clear Body made Scary Face's effects nonexistent and for that mistake the Trainer smiled before issuing a command, "Okay Tentacool use Supersonic on Ariados!"

The little jellyfish made a warbling gargle sound to clear it's throat and a conical blast of sound sped towards the spider. Hopefully it would hit and confuse the arachnid and give Tentacool more leverage in the battle.

Rattata (Joey)/Male/Caught: Gift/Level: 25/Ability: Run Away/Atk: Tackle/Atk: Tail Whip/Atk: Quick Attack/Atk: Focus Energy
Tentacool/female/Caught: Sea Route 1/Level: 20/Ability: Clear Body/Atk: Poison Sting/Atk: Supersonic/Atk: Constrict/Atk: Acid

Note: When a Trainer has a Pokémon partner played by an actual human PC and the controller of the Pokémon isn't around for a few days that doesn't mean that the battle has to stop. The Trainer will take control of that player's Pokémon character until they come back or until it's knocked out. The Ariados' controller isn't feeling well so Leader's taking control of it.

The blast of high-pitched sound waves reverberated around the Leader's Ariados, stunning the arachnid and completely confusing it as to what it was doing. The Leader cursed, but stayed confident. He'd be able to recover from his mistake. "Ariados, you can get through this!" he shouted, hoping his words would break through it's confusion. "Attack with Bug Bite!"

Ariados/Male/Caught: Route 1/Level: 25/Ability: CompoundEyes/Atk: Leech Life/Atk: Bug Bite/Atk: Scary Face/Atk: Poison Sting
Pidgeot/Male/Caught: Route 1/Level: 36/Ability: Tangled Feet/Atk: FeatherDance/Atk: Gust/Atk: Quick Attack/Atk: Twister
Belzayne rolled 2 100-sided dice: 52, 37 Total: 89 (2-200)
PostPosted: Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:48 pm

Note: Due to the Supersonic actually hitting and my character's need to attack I'll be rolling two 100 sided dice. The first to determine if the Ariados hits itself in it's confusion while the second is to determine if Bug Bite will actually land on the opponent. For the first dice roll if I get 1-50 I'll end up striking myself in confusion and the second dice roll is to determine if Bug Bite will actually land. In this case, Ariados did not hit itself in it's confusion but it did end up missing it's target.

Post # 2:

The sound wave knocked the Ariados back a bit, sending it into a wave of confusion. It ended up hearing the leader's command, and kept a hold of its head for the strike, lunging forward to bite at the Tentacool. Since it was still in a dazed state, it ended up missing the Tentacool by a good few feet.

Note: To show how the RNG to hit or miss works I'll be doing so with this post to determine if Constrict will work. Constrict has an accuracy rating of 100/100 as opposed to some attacks with 75/100. However to be completely fair to my opponent I've used a RNG with numbers set from 1-100 to determine if the attack will hit or miss. If I land 1-50 then the hit misses and if it's 51-100 then the hit lands.

Edit: I got 74 so my attack will definitely do some damage!

With the Ariados being so close to Tentacool it was only logical for the challenger to command the jellyfish to commit the next attack. "Tentacool use Constrict on Ariados!"

Without hesitation the Pokemon wrapped her tentacles around the spider and squeezed as hard as she could.

Rattata (Joey)/Male/Caught: Gift/Level: 25/Ability: Run Away/Atk: Tackle/Atk: Tail Whip/Atk: Quick Attack/Atk: Focus Energy
Tentacool/female/Caught: Sea Route 1/Level: 20/Ability: Clear Body/Atk: Poison Sting/Atk: Supersonic/Atk: Constrict/Atk: Acid
Belzayne rolled 2 100-sided dice: 29, 25 Total: 54 (2-200)
PostPosted: Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:46 pm

Note: Because of the dice rolls Ariados ended up hitting itself in it's confusion as well as taking the damage from Constrict. Sometimes PC controlled Pokémon will act without their Trainer's commands and attack without direction. They're allowed to do this. Sometimes it's a good thing and sometimes it's not. You take that chance when you and another RPer decide to work together in this way.

Post #3:

Not expecting the Tentacool to wrap its tentacles around the spider, it found itself turning to face the jellyfish with its full attention. Whatever command that was told to the arachnid went over it's head as it launched out a ray of Poison Sting upon itself, feeling the pain of its own attack.

The Leader cursed. At this rate his Ariados wasn't going to last much longer. "Focus!" he called out to his Pokemon. "You can take this guy! Hit him with Bug Bite!" With any luck his command would get through the spider. They desperately needed to pull this out.

Ariados/Male/Caught: Route 1/Level: 25/Ability: CompoundEyes/Atk: Leech Life/Atk: Bug Bite/Atk: Scary Face/Atk: Poison Sting
Pidgeot/Male/Caught: Route 1/Level: 36/Ability: Tangled Feet/Atk: FeatherDance/Atk: Gust/Atk: Quick Attack/Atk: Twister
