The Make Up of the Man
        Nothing is sacred.

        [ + ] Optimistic
Zave is, if nothing else, an eternal optimist. He always tries to see the 'good' side of a bad situation and does his best to help others see the same. He believes good things come to those who wait and he is a definite endorser of karma; as such, he doesn't believe in wasting his time or anyone else's with negativity. He has a 'kill them with kindness' demeanor that is more genuine than forced, truly subscribing to the notion to turn the other cheek. It can't rain all the time, right?

        [ + ] Generous
The man is a giver, through and through. While he isn't the exuberant type to tear his shirt off if you needed it (he would, if he wasn't so embarrassed by the notion), he would give you his last dollar and a place to lay your head, even if it was an inconvenience or issue for himself. Zave likes to do volunteer work for all sorts of causes and shelters, knowing that he's had a bad lot in life but he's had it pretty good compared to others. He tries to keep humility in the spirit of giving. If one befriends Zave, they might find that it's kind of like Christmas year-round, as he thoroughly enjoys leaving small gifts for his friends and loved ones -- just because.

        [ = ] Oblivious
While it can be charming to flirt with someone and have them be utterly clueless about it, it can get old pretty fast when one is continually dense about most social protocol. Zave is definitely the latter; sure, he has a sort of bewildered naivety that can be nullified by his boyish charm, but he's so out of touch with social etiquette that he doesn't always get subtle hints or round-about words. While it can spare him some embarrassing situations or unwanted advances, his perpetual living in shades of grey can be trying.

        [ = ] Non-Confrontational
Not exactly a pacifist, but he's not the poster-boy for standing up for what's right, either. He has strong convictions about how things should be but he's a little rusty on the grow-a-pair stance. Vocalizing his thoughts or displeasures never landed him any place good in his past, and its carried into his present on how he handles things. He'll do his best to calmly try and diffuse a tedious situation, but he does his best to not be aggravated or negative in any sense. If someone should confront him with hostility or violence, he'll quickly back down, trying not to flinch or withdraw into himself.

        [ - ] Gullible
Zave is far, far too trusting. Either his inherent need to believe in the best in everyone or his crushing desire for quelling his loneliness have made him eager to accept almost any kind word or any gesture that would be offered in friendship, making him easy to be taken advantage of or scammed. Because he's so positive and otherwise non-confrontational, this will often end bad for him, to which he'll scuff his toe and move on or start the slow process of rebuilding what was lost. He always thinks that he's learned his lesson or that he'll be more wary next time, but the next would-be-friend comes along and he finds himself the puppy at their heel all over again.

        [ - ] Chronic Escapism
It's no secret Zave loves his books, but his love is really more of an obsession. What started as a safe place when he was a child has warped into a chronic displacement as a young adult. Reading, using the computer, even walking down the street -- Zave has his head permanently stuck in the clouds, almost always guaranteed to be found with a whimsical expression on his face as his mind builds stories and scenarios as quickly and as easily as he breathes air. It can be extremely detrimental when in a work meeting or driving, as he tends to 'zone out' and run on auto-pilot without actually paying attention to anything. It's not that he doesn't care, he just finds his own thoughts to be so much more comforting and familiar than reality.

        The Prelude
        His story.

Zave was the first and last son to parents that neither wanted kids nor were equipped to handle the one they had made. His parents were young when he was conceived, barely adults themselves though they did the best they could in the beginning. His mother stayed home and worked odd jobs when she could get a sitter; his father tended to get jobs as often as he lost them, working one menial, dead end job to the next. Though his dad seemed to excel at handy work like construction and repair, his bad attitude and worse temper often had him fired or suspended before he could make any name for himself. Soon, the attitude spilled into home and one night, when his mother came home too late from a successful night of work, he struck her out of rage. He feigned shock and dismay and swore it would never happen again. He lied.

Being only three at this point, Zave didn't understand what was going on, but the house was often dour and no amount of bringing his mother his favorite toys could stop her from crying. This continued until he was eight; it was then he tried to intervene and his father's abuse was turned on him. For four long years, he stood between his father and his mother and it wasn't until he was taken to the hospital with a broken hand and dislocated arm that anyone knew of their situation. The police were alerted and his father arrested. His mother stayed with his grandmother and he continued to do his best to make her smile. He was only twelve.

Time marched on and there was no further incident in Zave's life with his father, though the mental scars ran deep, especially when his mother refused to talk about it or even acknowledge what had happened, encouraging her son to find solace in academic tasks such as reading and sports. Zave took to the former and grew a great love of books, fascinated by the tales spun with the power of words and loving the feel of being transported somewhere else. This was his crutch, a boon and a curse: he was intelligent and his thirst for reading and learning got him through high school with flying colors and early admittance into college, but he was socially stunted, choosing long nights with a good book over human contact. He graduated with a Bachelor's in Theology and Humanities, applying his work first as a substitute teacher. After a strange happenstance of a student's book being damaged by chemicals in a lab, he helped her restore it, and found a passion that went even beyond reading books: restoring them. Jobs in such a field were scarce, but the local museum was happy to hire him as a temp, earning a generous paycheck.

At twenty-three, with many a skeleton in his closet and not at all the dark disposition to hint to it, he's very happy with his lot in life and attests it to karma and positive thinking. His life is far from perfect, however, and Zave could stand to learn a thing or two about life.

x x x x xQuirks, Likes & Dislikes
x x x x xFor better or for worse.

x x x x xAnimal Lover
x x x x xCute and furry or sinister and scaly, Zave loves animals. He is an utter child in their presence.

x x x x xCloset Romantic
x x x x xDespite his aversion to human contact, he has big dreams and ideals of romance and how nice it would be to fall in love.

x x x x xEverything In Its Place...
x x x x xHe's kind of disorganized on a first glance. His work space is a mess of controlled chaos but he knows where everything is.

x x x x xFlight of Foot
x x x x xGifted on his feet as he is working with his hands, he loves to dance and ice skate. He just doesn't do it much.

x x x x xHuman Vacuum
x x x x xZave is not picky; he'll eat almost anything. He does not have the most refined of palettes.

x x x x xNervous Energy
x x x x xHe doesn't like to be idle; this often translates to him toying with the pocketwatch his grandfather gave him.

x x x x xSharp Dressed Man
x x x x xHe needs his button-ups and vests like some people need air. He gets totally disjointed if he has to wear anything else.

x x x x xTrinket Collector
x x x x xZave absolutely loves knick-knacks. He enjoys finding little baubles when he travels and has a shelf full of them at home.

x x x x xLikes: Silk oolong, scarves, microfiber furniture, the smell of pine in rain, bite-sized sweets, books, cherries, winter.

x x x x xDislikes: Most technology, stains, sand between his toes, sewing, strong incense, itchy fabrics, plaid, bold colors.

x x x x xThe Tea Stall
x x x x xI got what you need, strangah...

x x x x xWhy Zave?
x x x x xZave needs love in a hopeless place. He needs someone to interject in his sham of a life and point out his idiosyncrasies,
x x x x xsomeone who can be close to him enough that he'd listen. Not only does he need a push, but that pet could also introduce
x x x x xhim to different facets of life and 'fun' that he may not have considered before. In short, Zave needs a friend, but he needs
x x x x xto be responsible too.

x x x x xWhat does he need?
x x x x xOther than the above statements, Zave needs jolt. He needs to be jarred out of his 'perfect little world' and given a healthy
x x x x xdose of reality. He needs to be taught to be strong and confident, to not be defined by what happened but by what can be.
x x x x xHe needs someone with a different sort of insight that doesn't think the way he does, so he can see more outside of his own
x x x x xperceptions. The characteristics I would look for would be confidence, perhaps serenity and strength; the rest can be
x x x x xworked on via RP.

x x x x xAny other questions will be answered here!

This Quest is now APPROVED. You may rp at the Wooden Door now if you'd like~

Aah what a lovely sounding creature Q u Q/// He seems like a studmuffin, justsayin I like the detail you've put into history and personality - particularly in balancing the different parts of him to make a whole. It's easy to see where a little pet might manage to pry its way into his life♥ Good luck!
