The event was advertised on every local station, both television and radio, as well as in the local papers. It was, of course, outdoors and on a weekend, as any other venue would be too small, and a park had been set up to act as the stage for a celebration. Free appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages acted as an alternative to paid pre-speech dinners and glasses of wine and hard liquor, the proceeds of which went to the very drive that the past month had been spent gathering donations for.
The stage was lined with chairs, a long table, and a podium, as well as a banner overhead proclaiming "WINTER GALA 2011-2012" that would clue in any particularly oblivious citizens of Destiny City. Currently, a band plays on one side of the stage, the seats to the right occupied by members of the city government, and special guests of the mayor.
Just in front of the stage are several small, circular tables, for prominent members of the community, and further back, there are chairs set up in rows for walk-in seating. Beyond there is mingling room, access to the food and drink [as well as a full staffed bar, and catering for those with meal tickets], and space for dancing, as well as the regular facilities of the park, such as a fountain and play area for children.
Young and old, rich and poor are present, left to listen to both the band and the occasional speaker, all while awaiting the mayor to stand and make her speech to the crowd with the midday sun high in the sky.
[Feel free to arrive and get settled/mingling/dancing/whathaveyou! Later today, the mayor will give her speech. You MAY enter if you did not participate in the Food Drive event!
***THIS ORP IS OPEN TO ALL CIVILLIANS PLUS THE ORDERED CHARACTERS THAT IRIS APPROVED FOR POSTING IN THE SENSHI ORP.***]

While Jett often read the newspaper to keep in touch with reality and the going-abouts of the city he lived in, it was not often he was inclined to participate in social gatherings. Thankfully, he had a little girl and a girlfriend to draw him out. Millicent seemed to know the most about things that were going on and wasn’t the least bit shy to let Jett know that he simply must attend, and Raven wasn’t one to turn down an opportunity to look good.
Jett had allowed himself to be swayed by their words and had picked both females up earlier today. With instructions of ‘dress nice’ he might have been a little overdressed in his ‘fancy occasions only’ suit—but at least had the excuse that they had fancy dinner reservations tonight. He hadn’t been out to dinner in quite some time, and since it was only natural to take your girlfriend on a date, he was more than willing to sneak in the opportunity. He didn’t even mind if Millicent tagged along; she always kept things entertaining.
Stepping out of the car, he brushed himself off, casually dismissing any dust that might have settled out of habit’s sake. “Now,” he started, “I don’t care how much food there is just lying around, don’t eat anything and spoil your appetite. I’m not going to pay for dinner just so you can pick at it and put it in a to-go box. Millie, don’t run off and get lost. Raven, don’t find any leftover mistletoe and run off without me.”

An actual date with Anthony Darrow.
Kyndall was so excited she couldn't stand it. Even though he'd made specific mention that this was a casual thing she didn't think she knew the meaning. She was supposed to, she knew, but it went right out the window when he asked her to go with him. She'd played it cool at the time, though, bouncing internally. She'd have gone to the moon if he'd asked her at the moment.
She dressed carefully, wanting to be dressed up but not look like she was trying too hard or making this too date like. A simple dress, easy makeup and her hair piled on her head in wispy curls. Her coat was on to block out the cold and she'd chosen thick tights on purpose. She arrived and caught herself in a reflection, checking herself over, and found she looked presentable.
It wasn't hard to spot him across the park, looking nervous and out of place. She paused a moment to grin at that as he was often awkward looking but she found it rather charming as a quality. She let herself be seen and crossed to where he was, giving him a quick hug in greeting.
"Hi Tony!" She gave his hand a squeeze. "You look very handsome!"
Her eyes sparkled with excitement, turning to look around at the people arriving. This was the first time she'd hear the mayor speak since the horrible City Hall fiasco. The park was set up nicely and though she probably wouldn't be doing much dancing (did Tony dance?) she was sure to have fun spending time with him and mingling among the people here getting to know more of Destiny City's populace. She was not quite the social chameleon her daughter was but she did enough that she was alright.

Penelope had no personal intention of going to the Winter Gala, content with the anonymous donation she had made as Pasiphae. However, Lois Seneca was nothing if not social, and when she had read about the event in the paper and decided to go, of course her husband, Timothy, had decided to go by her side. Both parents had convinced her to come with them rather than stay at home with Minotaur. Which, of course, meant dressing for the occasion.
So, the dark-haired teenager found herself wandering around with a glass of punch in one hand, while the other smoothed down her green skirt over the top of the black tights she had decided to wear. Her parents were off in the distance, chatting with some of the other couples and getting a snack.

"Did you see the snack table?" Peter chirped, approaching the girl he knew as Ainsley, two cups of punch in his hands with a small plate of cookies piled on top. "I'm Peter, remember? From camp? And the library that one time...?" Hmm, maybe he should have made sure she remembered him before he brought her a drink and snacks.
"Uh..." he started lamely, wrinkling his nose as he glanced down at the cups and plate. "I got you some punch..." His mother had insisted when he told her he wanted to talk to his friend. He thought it was a little too much, but it would be easier than trying to make it through the crowd to the punch bowl again. "And cookies. I haven't touched them, in case you're worried about germs... I used a napkin..." Overkill, Peter...
He shifted awkwardly, wishing he could take off the tie his mother made him wear under duress. He wasn't wearing anything too fancy, although his hair was mostly tame aside from a piece or two in the back that just refused to lay flat. Other than the tie (which was diagonally stripped red and pink, to his horror), he wore a white button up shirt, black slacks, and dress shoes. They were already killing his feet, but he tried to ignore it.
If anything, he would just take them off later on.
"You're not here alone, are you??" he asked, glancing around for her parents or... someone she was with.

Micah had chosen a formal outfit, and the wool peacoat she'd been eyeing for months to go over it. After all, it was a fashion statment that went with everything, like her black suade gloves and black hat whose brim covered her ears. Beneath the peacoat was a pun that she could not resist. It was not christmassy, nor was it particularly festive in anyway for winter. But Micah simply could not resist the idea of Snow White for a Winter Gala outfit.
Alexij all but kicked her out of his car, not wanting to be around people for a second longer than necessary. As he sped away -- never one for speed limits -- Micah scanned the area to people she might recognize. Various faces from school, people from the street.
It wasn't until green hair caught her attention that Micah finally broke into a real smile. Kyndall. The momma bear who had gotten her smoothies after Micah failed to punch anything in the self defense class she's stumbled into and not managed to ever find again. Micah ran -- well, more like hobbled, as she was not used to the heels she was in -- over to the older woman to greet her.
But she stopped a few yards from her when she noticed the man she was speaking to. Tony? Library Tony who Micah was still embarassed to look at because it reminded her of what a brat she was? Micah looked down again, suddenly very interested in the snow beneath her feet. Oh look at that, it's so... white. It was time to go somewhere else. Find someone to talk to or sit alone. The crowd was starting to get her worked up again and she had to take a few deep breaths to simmer down.
Brown hair and pink eyes caught her attention. Oh, at last.
"Quinn," she inquired gently, moseying up next to her and taking her seat. "Do you mind if I sit with you?"

He hadn't been planning to go, really he hadn't. Why would he want to go and sit outside, who holds an event outdoors in the middle of winter? He'd actually been busy trying to convince Lily's dog, also his in a way, that a game of tug of war was a good idea. The object of the game was to destroy that hideous sweater he'd gotten from a certain powerful person, it had ornaments on it! Lily had ended that, to his displeasure. He'd really wanted to get rid of the damn thing, without shoving it at someone else. It really wasn't worthy of being worn by another person, it was simply a ridiculous monstrosity - and no he wasn't being overly dramatic.
Lily had decided she was going to the Gala and so he was going, with some reluctance. If he really hadn't wanted to go he'd have just left and gone to hide out at his parents, so that said something about his opinion on attending the Winter Gala - he wasn't completely against it. He just didn't like the idea of freezing outside and listening to speeches made by people he either didn't like, thought little of, or could care less about. But Lily had asked and after she prodding from her he'd gone to shower, wash and dry his hair, and dressed properly.
Now with his hair tied back and a black scarf tightly wound about his neck he looked as posh as ever, the long black pea coat had the collar flipped up and every button done. His hands were covered in black cashmere gloves, which matched the scarf. At his side with of course Lily. A glance up and over to her, after he'd looked out over the swelling crowd of people. "This is insane. I don't see why the pomp and grandeur over something as simple as food donations." Though he did like the fact he and Lily had spent a day out shopping for the animals of the cities less fortunate people. "And couldn't they have decided to host this closer to Spring, less chance of freezing?" He questioned, not at all happy with the cold which had already tinged his cheeks a pink color.

Any excuse to spend some normal time with her best friend was readily grabbed up by Lily, so the winter gala that went along with the donation drive was a must. She of couse pestered Alex about it wanting to go even before she decided she would help deliver the senshi contribution, meaning she'd have to ditch him for a bit during and after the mayors speech, but she wasn't over worried about it.
She shivered slightly from the cold, her outfit not really being enough to keep her as warm as she would like to be. She like Alex chose black and and her case white, though mostly black, coat atop a very short sweater dress, because the hooded coat itself looked like a dress and was long, thick black stocking, and an adorable pair of boots that really weren't overly dressy.
She looked to Alex when he spoke, but raised an eyebrow slightly at his complaints. "Its for a good cause. Think of some of the people we are helping. Some are homeless and are outside all winter, we can stand a few hours. We can always go to the car to warm up."
She was lucky for a darker skin that for now wasn't showing of redness on her nose and cheeks which wasn't the case for Alex. "Come on Alex, we'll stay warmer if we move around a bit."

Ainsley had been determined to get to the stage when she made a small squeak from surprise. She hadn't expected to see anyone she knew here, despite the size, and she especially hadn't expected anyone to call out to her. She had met Peter so many times since summer camp but he'd only recall having met her a couple. Her alternative identity hide many of her fond memories with the boy but at least she could make another today!
She turned around on her shoes and looked at Peter, immediately noticing how nicely he was dressed. Her eyes lingered on him, admiring his button up shirt and his black slacks and dress shoes. The tie was certainly the sight of all of them to see, lighting the boy up much like a lollipop or candy cane. Did he picked out his outfit? It kind of matched her own. It was a a tiered pink dress and the trim of each tier had a thin red ribbon of lace lining it, matching red bows in her braids and red shoes.
"You look nice Peter," she said with a small smile. "We kind of match, don't you think?"
It was then she noticed that he had brought her a drink, as well as a snack. Oh, Peter was such a gentleman! A small, sincere smile graced her face as she gladly accepted the drink from her friend while carefully eying the cookies. Did he say germs? Hesitantly she reached for one of the cookies and stared at it for the longest time. Was she going to eat it? She was unsure. She never would have thought about germs but now that he'd said it...
It was possible she would have just contemplated the sanity of the cookie for minutes had Peter continued to talk to her. Was she alone? She very well might be, if Bell or Xavier were coming, she had run long past them to get here in excitement.
"I... um... don't tell anyone. I'm sure they're around here somewhere!"

"I know, I simply don't see why make a spectacle of people doing what they should be doing - as humans." He spoke though he moved to follow his friend. His eyes once more looking over the coat she wore, it really was nice. The boots while they weren't over the top were quite nice as well, it all worked well.
What no one saw was the splash of color under his coat, he had on a slightly off white cable knit sweater with a high collar. There was one problem with being as...petite as he was the problem was how easily he got cold. So when winter rolled around, as much as he loved the season, he froze thus the warmer sweaters he constantly wore in winter, and even on and off in the fall.
"I'll likely make use of the cars heating at some point." Fair skinned, really fair skinned as he didn't take to tanning or sunning himself, he had much lighter skin that his friend. "Let's find drinks and maybe some food, I'm in the mood for something with dough to it." Something with puff pastry, quiche, anything savory and with light and flaky dough. It was just something on his mind right now.
