Me and my boyfriend want to throw a Harry Potter themed part in the next 2 months or so. We've got a few ideas for game including:
Sorting Hat Game
Defense Against The Dark Art's Class
Quidditch
Potion's Class
Dumbledore's Army
The invitations will look like Hogwarts Acceptance letters, and upon arrival all the guests will get a custom wand. Then people will be sorted into the four houses, and compete in the games for points. Lunch and dinner will be worked into the day with Harry Potter themed foods, from the Harry Potter (Un)Official Cook Book. The winning house members will all get an HP themed gift baskets. There will also be decorations and HP music playing the whole time.
Do any of you have some ideas of other things we can do? Games or contests? Me and my boyfriend want to get a bunch of ideas so we can pick our favorites from them and have maybe 10 games in all.

Hmm, this sounds interesting, though I do not like playing games unless it is Bobbing for apples... or pin the tail on the donkey.
Lets see, I know! You should play a game of pin the wand on the wizard/witch! Yeah... okay, maybe not.
How about...having a maze that is totally dark and one person from each house go in it and look for the prize! It would be like in the Goblet of fire! Except, no one gets hurt.

Can I recommend Potter themed treats?
For our Potter Movie Marathon a friend and I made Chocolate frogs (melted chocolate into molds), Pumpkin Pasties and Licorice wands (we made them out of red licorice dipped in white chocolate).
Might I also suggest Harry Potter Clue if you have time and energy to make it? WHO KILLED DUMBLEDORE?
...okay scratch that, I'm making that one...
(but there is actually a Harry Potter Clue game that is "who cast what spell in which room of Hogwarts that's out on the market)
WHEN IN DOUBT... tape a bunch of paper to the floor and colour in squares and let the real life wizard's chess begin! You would need a few objects to substitute for other pieces, and the "kings" would be playing against each other using you and your friends as pieces x3
It's a pretty boss party game for a game or two if everyone is involved.
but yeah. those are ideas ^^

But...But...But it's Harry Potter! I love Harry Potter!
But I know I can't go.
Anyways, I don't really have any amazing individual ideas right now, but I know a great place to get ideas...PINTEREST! Warning, though, it's more addictive than Facebook. But, so, go to the search bar and type stuf about Harry Potter. THEY HAVE RECIPES FOR BUTTERBEER CUPCAKES! So, yeah, go there. Awesome place.
I know I can't come to your party, but tell me how it goes, 'kay?
I wanted my birthday party to be HP themed...But my best friend's mother thinks that it's satanic, so she wouldn't be able to come. WOE IS ME!

So I run a Harry Potter society, and these ideas are things that we've done:
we have HP board game nights, you can sometimes get em quite cheap (there's clue, destination, some random games that they created just for it as well)
There's one game where you write names on pieces of paper and then you have to hold one to your head and not know it and ask questions to work out who you are... (that was probably really badly explained xD)
Making potions is something we do a fair bit. Like get some drinks and add sweets/sherbet or whatever and that gets quite fun!
Pin the tail on the hipogriff - if you've got a good artist (or can find a picture)
We also sometimes do a thing where everyone gets a character and they have a "mission" during the night that's something to do with that. Like Fred + George have to pull pranks and then a Voldemort has to hide horcrux objects and a Harry/Ron/Hermione has to find them (or just do a horcrux treasure hunt anyway)

My little bro had a Harry Potter themed party a couple years back. One of the coolest things we had, at least for the Sorting Hat, was have a walkie talkie in under the hat and so someone else from a ways away could be the voice of the hat sorting everyone.
I didnt read many of the above posts so if anyone's already suggested this, ignore me ^^ It was a good idea though.
