It sounds interesting and it's implications could help further the "New Age craze" now that there is proof that it works. I would like to see more experiments done with not only humans but other species' DNA as well. If the results check out like this experiment than the implications for the future could very big. This might explain not only why affirmations work but also why victims of abuse have a hard time recovering. Using the results we could help patients with mental problems like depression of anxiety and even help abuse victims to move on.
I think that this experiment looks promising but I feel further research and development by other scientist in that world is needed.

I'm skeptical. These seems like another one of those "scientific breakthroughs" that's too good to be true and after the announcement you never hear of it again.

I feel a lot a good can come from words. Everyone gives off energies and rarely are we aware of what kind of energies we are influencing on others. It's the whole perceptive process we receive from our environment. None of this is usually thought to be scientific, so it's cool that they are making progress to proof it that way.

If you are a reflection of everything you are exposed to by percentage equal to the percentage of influence your peers (including yourself) have over you, it natural that your peers reflect what you expose them to, to the percentage of influence you have in their life.
As such your parents, family, friends, teachers, and coworkers will have their fair share of influence over you than bank teller or door man.
And you will have your fair share of influence over others as a parent, relative, friend teacher and coworker than if you are talking to a passerby.
DNA changes for many reasons including radiation, emotions, hormones, food, and activities... Words stimulate thoughts, emotions, and the associated hormones. And the activities and food a person consumes are influenced beyond that. It has a snowball effect that will carry itself to the extreme to which a person becomes regarded as Tony Robbins, hitler, Usane Bolt, Bruce Lee, nick vuijcic, you or me.
Sounds are more powerful at stimulating thoughts than they get credit, more than words which articulate and express a sound to stimulate a specific thought. Try listening to horror music vs happy music, vs sounds from war vs sounds from nature. Once you add words to them as lyrics or a graphic audiobook you then take a magnifying glass and focus sound to your brain and everything it does. Much of what it does we still don't understand...
If you take an inventory of what a person listens to, not just the words and definitions, but the tonality of what is heard, you might have a frame of reference for knowing that persons emotional quality of life more than anyone else. You can remedy many psychological and physical disorders through sounds alone. Of course interpretations of a sound and word are more customized frames of references which allows us all to interprate a word or sound different than anyone else does. How we interprate thigs is where the human mind gets complicated, and that's why it's hard to create standardized treatments. Especially for the mind.
The good news is we can understand ourselves better than anyone else, and that is why we must take responsibility for influencing ourselves, our ability to literally be the change we want to see is why we are the most important person in our lives. And be extremely selective of our peers and what content we allow ourselves to be exposed to.
