SO. I went through with the ritual (After making sure I had a nice save file) and while clearing that first hold of the Silver Hand, I ran into some trouble with the last boss.
After about four times utterly failing, I figured out a good way to get him down... and while leaving the dang keep, suddenly someone's respawned or something and THAT b*****d kills me. Stupid me forgot to make another save after killing the boss.
DAGNABBIT!
Also: What is up with the Master-level chests everywhere? Ugh, must remember places to go back to when I can pick them.
Edit: I tell you what, I haven't died so much since I first started playin' Morrowind (before I discovered the difficulty slider there... I was not overall as good at gaming then. Although I'm still tempted to nudge Skyrim's down slightly if there is one.)

My recommendation is make a save before you pick a master lock, if you use more then 5 picks, reload and try again, thats what I do until I have like 300 picks lol.
As for the fights, there are some nasty fights like that, where things are levelled higher for some levels. I noticed that 2-handed weapons do a number on your butt, add in an archer and you may die a lot. Its all part of the challenge! That and fighting your way out over encombered with all the things not nailed to the floor mrgreen

first thing you want to do to get your power up for these battles is pump up your smithing and enchanting....alchemy comes in later...but you will want to choose your prefered weapon...upgrade it and add elemental damage from a grand soul after you put in enough perks into your enchanting....then upgrade your boots gloves ring and necklace to upgrade weapons damage of your type

Cracking master chests is easy you just have to find the sweet spot.

Lockpicking is either a matter of practice... Or you go do the Thieves Guild chain to get an item that will make lockpicking easier. ;D

I've definitely gotten the hang of lockpicking by now. Master locks don't make me flinch anymore...
It's the picking pockets that's a pain... >_> I'm hopeless. Makes that Thieves Guild stuff a bit harder.

It's weird, in Morrowind I stole everything that wasn't nailed down, and even tried some of what was. In the fort at the Ghost Fence I stole an entire set of glass armor without even thinking about it.
Now that I get to be reminded of my guilt by seeing the little mark there that reminds me it was stolen... I'm not stealing very much.
Not to mention in Oblivion, and moreso in Skyrim, rooms are just set up so artistically I feel like I'd be scraping off the layers of a painting to start stealing things.

A lot of places have such chests, though not every ruin and the ones found with the boss of a ruin isn't locked, but still. I would agree with the others, you should save before you pick the lock. Saves on the picks. Thank you...
