Lucinda could feel the ripples of air sweeping through the high, sweet grass that still grew in the meadow, undeterred by the chilly air that grasped the area. It was quiet, and she could only hear the whispering of the grass and trees and the occasional tweet and twitter of a bird in the sky above. She could on;y sigh in a certain longing to view the colorful world she knew surrounded her.

But alas, she could not. For Lucinda was utterly blind. Her eyes no longer functioned, and sometimes disturbed others, for her closed eyes now only dripped tears as ruby red as a cardinal. Her lifeblood flowed from her eyes and dripped silently onto the ground, disappearing. And she knew it did.

There were moments where her blindness caused her a great deal of sorrow, and when it became too much, she could only breathe to keep her calm.

As she allowed her hoofsteps to wander around in no particular direction, she paused and allowed herself to partake in a nibble of grass. She was carefully aware of her surroundings, listening for quick movements that normally signaled the approach of a predator.

A little spring was in Alexandre's step this morning as he walked through the mountains in search of something to do. The air was warm and the ground was not yet dressed in snow, both he found lucky and unlucky. As much as he loved his warm weather, he couldn't help but enjoy the cold a bit as well. The snow it brought with it wasn't that hard to complain with either as it could be mashed up and used for water if one needed some in a pinch. Or as he and his brothers had done before as colts, simply toss snow at each other.

Now grinning he stopped in front of a vast meadow, one he had visited often as a foal. Now they are all on their own journey's. As am I. He thought to himself, his smile fading to a more serene like expression. Taking in a small breath Alexandre continued his walk through the meadow, envisioning in his mind what it all looked like. He could still remember every detail of the meadow, it's array of colors, it's ever present tall grass and flowers. It was quite a breath taking sight to behold. Alexandre often found himself wondering why he had not appreciated it a bit more as a colt, but could quickly conclude that foals were only capable of so many emotions and thoughts.

After walking for several minutes Alexandre came to a halt when he smelled and heard what sounded like another soquili standing not more then a few feet away from him. Curiously he crept closer, making sure that whoever it was would hear him coming or see him coming. When he was closer he realized that the soquili was a mare and she seemed to be crying and bleeding. "Hello miss." He said, bowing his head for a moment. "Are you alright?" He asked. Alexandre was completely unaware that she was just as blind as him. And it was unlikely she would realize he was as well as not even his kin had been able to decipher that he was blind until he had told them.

Lucinda flicked her ears to the side and listened hard as she heard the soft crunching of grasses. She took a step back away from whomever approached and snorted. "Who are you?" She hissed softly, mostly out of nervousness. She was not accustomed to people approaching her with such ease.

After a moment, when the figure had not attacked her, she allowed herself to relax and take a deep breath, filling her senses with the stallion's scent. Oh how she wished she could see him. That was the hardest about being blind: being unable to see others.

"I apologize.." She murmured. "I am not used to others and I lack my manners these days. I must rely on my senses to know what the world around me is like... and that is difficult." She smiled softly and crept a few short steps forward, more so to be nearer to the strange stallion who did not attack her.

"My name is Alexandre miss. It's a pleasure to meet you." He replied, bowing to her and then lifting himself back up, not realizing that she couldn't see him do so. He was a bit surprised by the hiss that she made and found himself wondering for a moment if he had stumbled upon a Kalona. Despite being completely blind, he could hold is own pretty well against a Kalona, but fighting with a mare of any kind wasn't really in tune with moral code. When he smelt her move closer and the air became less tensed he knew that she wasn't a Kalona. Thankfully.

"It's quite alright, most stallions probably aren't as approachable as me." He chuckled, trying to ease her worry. When she talked about having to rely on her senses he wondered if like him, she was blind. Deciding it was probably better to ask then assume he tried to figure out how to best approach her about it. It seemed that if that was the case she seemed a bit sad and maybe a bit bitter about loosing her sight. While he felt neither. He pursed his lips and took a chance. "When you say that you have to rely solely on your senses..... Are you blind?" He asked, taking the direct route.

Alexandre strangely found himself hoping she was like him blind but at the same time hoping she wasn't. It certainly wasn't a life that most soquili would want. "May I ask what your name is?" Alexandre asked, half changing the subject just in case she felt uncomfortable to talk about her loss of sight.

Lucinda smiled thoughtfully at his question. Not many would be so bold as to ask it outright as he was. But in the fact he did, she felt a bit entitled to answer. "I am, sadly. Though not naturally, mind you. It was more of a freak accident... an angry person who loathed my family. My mother's eyes bleed, though she still has her sight. But me and my sister... were the ones to pay the total price. I am unable to see the world around me anymore, and I find myself with life dripping from my cheeks. But the accident was ages and ages ago...and I haven't gotten used to my impossibly annoying inability to see."

She snorted softly and let out a peal of laughter. Few would ask why she could not see, but this one she felt oddly obligated to tell. A certain ease swept over her and she tossed her head slightly, and if Alexandre were close enough he would most likely feel the air of her movements, as well as the soft tickle of the feathers that were attached to her headpiece. "I am one who is called Lucinda, though you may call me Luci if you prefer. Pray tell, what is your name, sir?"

"I'm sorry for why you lost your sight." He said with a bit of sadness lacing his words. "Miss Lucinda, I am blind as well. Although mine was of natural causes." Alexandre said plainly, obviously not sad for his loss of sight like she was. "But I was fortunate to have my sight for a short time, and for that I feel thankful." His wings gently unfolded and touched her cheeks. The tips of them getting stained with her blood, but gently caressing her face none the less. "Miss Lucinda, being blind is not such a horrid thing. It has it's challenges at times yes, but all your senses are that much stronger. I have yet to encounter one who could even tell that I could not see as they did unless I told them thusly." He said softly in hopes of encouraging her. "Even my own parents and brothers were unaware." Alexandre added.

"My name is Alexandre. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance miss Lucinda." He grinned, bowing once more; his wings never leaving her cheeks. When he rose again his eyes locked onto where her voice was coming from. "May I see what you look like?" Alexandre asked, his wings motioning along her cheek line to signify that he would use them as his eyes. "My wings allow me to feel things and I am able to envision in my head what others may look like by the way they feel." He cheeks reddened a bit due to touching her cheek in the first place. He was not used to being around mares let alone touching them.

A gentle, yet surprised smile made an appearance upon her face. To have found one who was blind like she was was a strange sort of luck, but a welcoming thing as well, for few could indeed relate with her. At the touch of his wing, she felt a shiver travel up her spine. Few had ever touched her, and the gentleness of a feather's embrace was a welcoming feeling. She nosed gently at the wing that lightly touched her, and at his question, she nodded against his wing. "You may." She murmured.

She stood very still and allowed him to inspect her. There was nothing wrong with someone learning her features. Actually, it was a nice change to being laughed at or pitied for being blind. She wondered half-heartedly what he looked like, this Alexandre.

With Lucinda's permission Alexandre began to use his wings to do exactly what he said they would and began to feel around her face and body, but not so much to make her or him for that matter uncomfortable. When he reached her small wing like things on her body he tilted his head slightly in confusion. "Miss Lucinda, may I ask what these are?" He asked, still feeling them. After he was certain he had memorized them he moved onto her back fin and tail, making sure to get to awful close.

When he reached her legs he felt a small fin like thing that had been similar to the one on her back. When he had finished feeling around he brought his wings back to his back and laid them down. "Miss Lucinda are you a kelpi?" He said with a smile, though he knew she could not see. Thus let his voice show his enthusiasm. This was his first time ever meeting a kelpi if that was indeed what she was. As far as he knew no one in his family had ever met a kelpi face to face before. What a historic moment this was turning out to be! "I'm sorry if that was uncomfortable." Alexandre added, referring to him using his wings to feel what she looked like.

"Kelpis are the ones of the water, yes?" She asked after she had stopped shivering from the sensation of the wing-tips grazing across her skin. It had not been uncomfortable, but more or less a very ticklish sensation that sent gooseflesh across her skin. She smiled lightly, and half-heartedly wished she had the same ability to "see" others. "I have a great affinity to water, so perhaps I am. I remember swimming through the waves as a small one, so I must be!" She said with a smile that drained into her voice.

"And you have the ability to fly?" She murmured, asking since he had wings. "What does it feel like to fly among the stars?"
