Cornell University, New York
Riley couldn't believe it. He stood outside of the classroom as he watched hovercraft after hovercraft land and drop off men and women he'd never expected to meet in person. The Ring of Prometheus. Some the public had no idea of their involvement in the group. They kept it secret so their positions wouldn't be in jeopardy. Within good reason, too. Some of the people he watched just surprised him. Like, there! That was Colonel Rickard Braith! He was famous for his service under General Tithe-- who showed up only minutes afterward! There was Commander Teagan Grayson, who had actually been one of the few to give up their positions to lead their own branch of Prometheus. And then Kasimir Schmidt. A well admired and very large man from Germany who'd lived in America for the majority of his life. He was possibly the most pivotal member in the Prometheus hierarchy, due to the fact that he ran the largest branch in Prometheus. His son, Croix, and daughter, Claire, arrived with him. When Kasimir and his children entered the classroom, Waive came out and waved to Riley to come inside. The meeting was about to begin.
When Riley entered the room, he found the Ring had been sitting in the seats that the students would normally sit in. The rows stretched across the room in curves so everyone would be able to see the area where Sophia, Dante, and Waive were sitting. There was an open seat next to Dante, and that's where Riley was instructed to sit. So he did just that. And he waited. Waited for the Ring to hush. Waited for Waive to finally stand and address them. And when he did, he did so with such articulate prowess. But he'd prepared for this speech. He'd recited it over and over on the way here. ... It was almost humorous, actually. How tediously hard he worked to memorize and perfect it.
"And that is why I bring you all here today," said Waive as he just about wrapped up his speech. "To discuss and debate what is to be done about this magical being we have in our esteemed presence today. I will now turn this stand over to Kasimir Schmidt, commander and founder to the order of Prometheus." And with that, Waive returned to his seat and Kasimir stood to address the room. He must have been almost seven feet tall, Riley thought. Every time he saw him, he was amazed at how monstrous he was. The giant turned to look at Sophia. His gaze was almost saying something... or something was being told to him. It was as if by looking at Sophia, he saw something familiar. Something he missed. ... Something he loved. But that couldn't be right. They'd never met before, had they? No, it was impossible. Just impossible. Kasimir turned back towards the Ring. He scanned the room for a moment which made everything go silent. That's just how much this man was respected and revered in this sanctum of people.
"Witches," whispered Kasimir. Glances were exchanged, mumbles bubbled over. "Wizards," he said. This time a bit louder so everyone knew to cease the rabble. "Mages. Mesmers. Sorcerers, warlocks, enchanters." He paused again. "What are these things? What do we associate them with? Not evil alone. And not good alone, either. So how do you tell these apart? How do you know which witch or wizard you can trust?" Kasimir turned back to look at Sophia again. And then back to the audience. "You can't. But how is that different from any other situations? You don't always know who you can trust. Sometimes you can't even trust you own family. So regarding all of this, who are we to immediately call this woman a threat to our organization? Who are we to call into question her alignment? She has done nothing to us. And by punishing her without a fair trial with evidence of her treachery, I must inform each and every one of you that we're living up to the Blackguards' expectations of us. If we do that, then we are exactly what they say we are. So I decree that we give this girl a chance, if nothing else. And with that being said, I call Sophia Morcerf to come and speak on her behalf." An uproar began amongst the crowd of leaders. Kasimir simply stepped aside and stretched his arm out toward Sophia in a welcoming manner. He smiled. Riley was simply astounded by what Kasimir had to say. He wasn't expecting anything like that. He expected him to be against Sophia like the majority of the crowd seemed to be. ... But if anyone knew what they were doing, it was definitely Kasimir Schmidt.

Sophia stood up, her eyes hidden by the side bangs of her long black lengthy hair till she reached the speaking podium and she grabbed it's edges and looked up from it and towards the audience, letting the make up of her face come into view of the light that beamed down upon her, her icy blue eyes catching the light and making them opalescent almost in appearance. Sophia herself hadn't had time to make up any speech instead she would be improvising completely off the top of her head and perhaps even her heart.
" Good Evening . . .Ladies and Gentlemen of Prometheus. Everything you have heard earlier is in fact true. I have magical blood running through my veins at this very moment, it may make me different in many ways then you and I but I still have similar views of right and wrong. I do not view myself as a higher being nor will I ever do so. Even though you may fear me for my potentials, I am just as afraid of humanity. So why may you ask is it that I continue to live in the human world where I could just as easily run amongst folk with the same abilities and upbringing as myself, folk who run such a opposed organization as the Blackguards? Why? There are any reasons, one being quite personal. Not only have the actions threatened or hurt humanity but they have destroyed everything I held dear as a child. Not only did they slaughter my entire family, but they silenced their lives, their dreams, their hopes." She said as she took out a rough edged photo with atleast twenty people in it, all with happy and warm faces. Some looking wild in appearance but still cheery. She held the photo out for them to see as she spoke, near the podium a black cat came into view which was slightly see through, it lay there in plain view of everyone there on it's side licking its fur like any normal cat would.
"This is one of the main reasons why I have sought to combat the Blackguards, not just because I wished for revenge but I didn't want that happening to anyone else. Humans only know in a sense what it is to be truly alone, without my family to be behind me for the rest of my childhood, I was truly alone for humanity could not accept me and the blackguards hungering to end my very existence. Yes there is others like me, but only a little, but honestly there is so few of us left, even including mixed bloods that outside of my family I have never met anyone like myself face to face without them trying to destroy me or take control of me. This is truly why I have kept myself hidden for so long, why I use magic to mask everything in a attempt to survive, for folk of my race are extremely dangerous to one another for you cannot predict how powerful another of my kind is no matter if they are a female or male, or a child or adult.
This is another reason why the Blackguards resent me and is why I avoid them. I admit that we magical folk are the reason why so many freaks of nature that fill the ranks of the blackguards exist, we are the ones who created this second upbringing and evolution of life. Because we were the ones who backed this creation, the Blackguards hate us witches and wizards with a deadly passion. They also fear us as much they fear death for we can twist them up even farther.
But I am indifferent from that terrible reputation my kind holds, I have human emotion, love and desire just as you do. I truly wish for peace more then I wish for the continuation of my own life, it is the only true revenge I can give in memory of my loved ones for they were as good hearted as I. The very trait that had then slaughtered in the first place because they wanted something the blackguards resented, eternal peace between human and creature. For that I mean no harm towards you in anyway. I am not here to control you or use you in anyway. The only harm that will be done is if you continue to fear me for what I am. Do not continue to distrust me for I am very truthful with what I have been saying, anyways if I truly was going to destroy or use you, this meeting wouldn't have happened. I would have been smart and taken care of it a long while ago."

Riley was impressed with Sophia's speech. It was a lot more than he'd expected from her... but then again, he wasn't really sure what to expect. He only hoped that the Ring would be in her favor. That last bit made his gut turn a bit. Her choice of words was just a little bit rash. "This meeting wouldn't have happened. I would have been smart and taken care of it a long while ago." Riley worried that some of the Ring would take that as a threat. But it was impossible to tell from the majority of their reactions. Calm, collected, and for the most part, unchanged. It seemed as if they were determined to stick to their guns even before the meeting began. She didn't stand a chance.
"But what do you expect us to do?" asked Commander Teagan Grayson. She waved her hand in disgust. "Are we supposed to let you into our ranks unchecked? We can't just believe what you say is all truth. Because each and every one of you freaks have proven to be liars and schemers. Even the innocent looking ones."
Kasimir placed a hand on Sophia's shoulder and gently moved guided her to the side as he took her spot at the podium. He said something to her, but Riley couldn't quite catch what it was. But from watching his lips, it looked like he said "let me handle this", or something along those lines. The near giant turned his gaze back to the crowd of his peers. "Only the Blackguards deal in absolutes, Commander," he answered. "By refusing her so bluntly, you are no better than they are. So hold your tongue and think before you speak."
Riley's mouth hung open half way. He couldn't believe Kasimir just spoke to the commander that way! But it seemed only right by how she addressed Sophia. Come to think of, why was Kasimir so contrite on aiding Sophia? It was as if he felt the same way as Riley did concerning her importance to their cause. Maybe that meant things would turn out okay in the end?
"But she's not even a human!" exclaimed Colonel Braith. "Are you proposing that we accept her as one of us?"
"This is madness," agreed General Tithe. A few other members of the Ring gave their own opposing two cents, which made Riley's gut do another back flip. It seems that Kasimir's support was still not enough. And even if Riley went up there to defend her, his words would only be dismissed on the account that his view of the witch would be biased. They'd probably accuse her of putting him under some spell when she fixed his hand. What could he do? How could he save her? He just had to help. Somehow.
"I think we should give her a chance," said a young ginger man with a purple jacket. At first glance, Riley almost didn't recognize Croix sitting in the darkest corner of the room. He stood before he continued and walked down the center aisle, slowly, so everyone could crane their heads to watch him stroll down with his hands shoved into his pockets. "Think of what we could accomplish with a witch at our side. Think of how the Blackguards would second guess their decisions, knowing that they've got a bigger threat on their hands. What better weapon is there to use on something than that very something. I would think I speak for everyone in saying that, sometimes, fire must be fought with fire. So let us do just that. Let us stop hesitating to grasp this power we've been practically handed. Let us all finally start winning this war." Croix stopped in front of the podium. He was still below the stage, so he looked up to his father who seemed even taller than ever compared to his son. Riley didn't know what to think about what Croix said. Only that it was... surprisingly honest. He seemed to know how to address the war mongering side of these military folk, because from then on, there were no objections. Some exchanged looks and shared nods of agreement was all.
"I second," chimed General Tithe.
"Aye," followed Colonel Braith, typically. Croix began to smile wickedly up at his father as more and more of the Ring agreed to his terms. Kasimir only stared down at him with what looked like disappointment in his eyes. What was he playing at? If anyone couldn't be trusted, Riley thought it should be Croix.
"I agree," said Waive, which took Riley's attention away from Croix and his eerie smirk. And soon, everyone but Commander Grayson had given their blessing.
The Commander sighed as eyes flicked over to her. "Reluctantly," she said. "I agree to these terms."
Kasimir sighed and took a step back. "Then it is settled," he turned to Sophia. "You are now enlisted into the ranks of Prometheus under the leadership of Captain Waive Sibyle. He, along with the rest of the Ring, will be your superiors." Kasimir reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a pin that was in the shape of a flaming torch. Every member of Prometheus was given this upon joining, for it's relation to the myth of the Greek God the group got it's name and meaning from. This definitely a historical moment. Sophia Morcerf was the first non-human to ever obtain a torch and become an official member of Prometheus.
( ooc: Kind of just decided to get whatever that was over with. Got bored. ... Made this long post. Basically, I wanted the meeting over so I could introduce my new character sooner. lolol. )

Sophia seemed almost emotionless the entire time they ridiculed her as if this had happened to her before, as if she was used to mankind eventually pushing her away. It seemed she was expecting to be rejected this time, she kept her eyes from making contact with many of officers in the room, a sad look in her watery colored eyes but she kept quiet. But when Kasimir pinned the torch to the fabric of her shirt she had a rather surprised look on her face. " Oh . . . I-I am speechless, this makes me truly glad . . ." It seemed like Sophia didn't know how to react to being finally accepted by humans even with a moment like this. She seemed actually a little afraid. But finally she straightened back up to her calm and refined self. " I understand, I shall try my best."

The majority of the audience wasn't pleased with the presentation of the torch to Sophia. Already a few members of the Ring had made their exit, fed up with what they'd seen. Or maybe they were just too busy to stick around. The latter was more likely, seeing as how Croix's father was constantly off and about somewhere. He never had time for anyone. Especially not for his own son. Oh, how he resented that man. Kasimir needed to die. No, he needed to do more than just die. He needed to burn. To cook from the inside out as if he were stuffed into a microwave oven. Croix wanted to crush his entire being. His thoughts, his emotions, his body. Everything that he held dear needed to be destroyed. There weren't enough words to describe how much Croix hated his father. But Kasimir's time would come soon enough. His death was merely the last piece of the puzzle. Sophia Morcerf was the big issue at the moment. She was possibly the biggest game changer that could have presented itself for Croix. So it was time to start bending her to his will. Croix waited for Kasimir to formerly dismiss the Ring to approach Sophia, and when he did, he made sure he put on a wickedly attractive grin.
"Hello, Sophia," said Croix. "It's nice to finally meet you. I've been waiting for quite some time." He stuck out his hand and welcomed her as genuinely as he could. He needed this girl to like him. He needed her to trust him. So he wasn't going to ******** it up by giving off a shady vibe. It wouldn't matter if she was as ignorant as the rest of these fools, but Sophia was a witch. Her senses were bound to be more sophisticated than a mere human's. Croix didn't even have to try to fool any of them. All he needed was his words and his pretty face and they melted in the palm of his hand. So he needed to change his ritual to get Sophia. It would take time, but he was willing to give it.

Sophia recognized the man as the one who had spoke in favor of the blackguards accepting her and received him warmly in return. Her icy blue eyes looking him over. He seemed like an alright person but there was still that mysterious feel about him that she would have to keep an eye on. "Ah, I am flattered, never had someone wish to meet me so much. May I ask your name?" She replied softly grabbing his hand in hers and shaking it, giving a positive aura to the air around her.

Croix took her hand and shook it warmly. "I am Croix Schmidt. I've been a part of Prometheus for years now under my father, Kasimir. He's the tall, pale one if you didn't already know." Croix chuckled. It disgusted him to act so giddy. "I just wanted to welcome you to Prometheus personally. You don't have to feel like an outcast anymore. Oh, and to clarify, I didn't want you just for your power, Sophia. I just know how to talk to these people. I had to grow up around them, after all," he explained. Croix waved his arm in the direction of Kasimir and his peers and a flash of resentment glimmered in his orange eyes. But it was gone the very next moment.
"And sadly, most of Prometheus will probably never accept you purely for you. All they can see is power and a way to use it against the Blackguards. But I look at you differently. When I look at you, I see hope. Dreams. I see a new future for Prometheus-- no, for the entire world! Sophia, I know this all sounds a little far fetched, but I assure, I mean what I say. My trust lies with you fully and completely. So you'll always have at least one person who has faith in you." Croix smiled once more, as warm and inviting as he could make it. But he didn't stay still for long. In another moment, he had his hand resting gently upon Sophia's shoulder as he stood beside her. The fiery haired boy could never sit still for long. He was always so energized and ready for anything.

" I know that, its as expected of humans. Yet it doesn't bother me at all, why because I am used to it.And I am truly glad you think that way about me. Makes this joining Prometheus thing a little easier for me." Sophia seemed a little weirded out by having a stranger put his hand on her shoulder but her face didn't show it. " Ah I believe I must head back to Waive's squad . . . they might get worried with me wondering around on my own like this."

"I suppose that would make sense," said Croix. "History shows that us humans have never been the most accepting race out there. You've had to deal with us your whole life. For that, I apologize. But I regrettably can't speak for everyone." Croix slid his hand away from Sophia's shoulder and spun around to her front. This time he took her hand in his own and placed a light kiss upon the back of her palm. He then proceeded to bow before taking a step back. "Of course. Captain Sibyle is an old friend of my father's. He's a good man, so you wouldn't want to keep him waiting," he said. Croix waited for her to leave before setting in motion the next piece of his puzzle.

Sophia was about to walk away when Croix spun around to her and kissed her on the hand. This sudden action made her blush despite her trying to keep a straight face. " Uh . . . we shall meet again, see you later. . ." Sophia responded as she tried to walk away casually and made her way over to Waive's location and stood near him, a blush still on her cheeks.

"I just can't believe I've lived to see this day," said Waive. Riley's smile grew as his captain expressed his feelings of awe. Riley felt the same to some degree, but he was a bit worried by how Croix got the Ring to accept her. It was just the things he said... it was concerning. And it really brought into perspective just how much these men and women were obsessed with power. And that's when Sophia showed up next to Waive. Her cheeks were a light shade of red. Blushing? Riley looked to see where she'd come from and found himself look at the very man he was concerned about. Croix Schmidt. What was his game?
"Oh, Sophia. Congratulations on earning your Torch," Waive gave her a salute and followed it up with a wide smile, which exposed the creases of age on his face. "I honestly didn't expect this meeting would go so well. But I'm glad to have you with us. And don't worry, I'll make sure you adjust properly." As Waive finished up what he had to say, Kasimir made his way over as well. Salutes and handshakes were exchanged and the two had greeted each other like old friends. Because, in fact, they were just that. But they didn't have much time to chat. Kasimir made it clear that he needed to leave and get back to work.
"I trust you will take care of her," Kasimir said in a hushed voice as he turned Waive away from Sophia. "She's the key to winning this war. Without her, I doubt we'd last long enough to put the Blackguards in their place. They're growing so rapidly while we dwindle in size, numbers, and even hope. She alone can bring back that spark. She alone can turn the tide. Do you understand?" Waive nodded. "Very good. I've got to go now, so you be careful." Kasimir turned back to Sophia and Riley.
"Well, now I have to take my leave. It was a wondrous pleasure to meet you, Sophia. Stay strong and burn bright." With one final salute, Kasimir turned and began his departure. Riley watched as he, his son, and daughter, Claire, all made their way to the door that lead outside.

" Hes a very nice man, I can sense it." Sophia commented once Kasimir was in absence, she had sat down on a bench nearby trying to maw over the bewilderment that Croix had caused her earlier. The blush from before had disappeared and Sophia seemed normal. " Well now that I am a member what does that mean that should happen next?" She asked him. Dante who had been dragged along for just being a witness at moment was biding his time on the same bench Sophia was seated on. " Looks like Croix has a eye for you already." Danny joked, a smirk on his face. Sophia replied by pushing his military cap which was a little too big for him over his eyes which made him fuss. "What you don't see many men kissing women on the hand that much anymore." Sophia eyed him with a steely look. "Why should it concern you?"

Vadlyne Luxton was her name. Shiny, purple hair and scarlet, red eyes. She dressed herself in a hazy purple overcoat with red accessories, from zippers and buttons to medals and chains, adorning it all over to hide her shapely body. Dark purple high riding boots with red buckles, fingerless red gloves. On her head, she had a scarf wrapped around the top of her head and over her mouth. She looked like she should be in a sand storm instead of sitting on a bench outside of a university bathroom. Passers-by gave her odd looks of estrangement and confusion which was expected due to her choice of attire. Vadlyne sat there until the meeting started. "The Ring of Prometheus" is what they called it. Must have been pretty important, due to the faces she'd watched enter the empty classroom. And once they were all inside, she decided it was time to make her move. She stood up from the bench and grabbed the handle of the case she'd set down next to her and began moving with haste. It brought some attention to her, but more attention would have been drawn if she'd tried to sneak around. Shady figures are more suspicious than ones who go out of their way to be noticed... which was exactly what she was doing. Reverse psychology, she thought. And it had worked quite well from her experience. Vadlyne took note of the guards and such that patrolled the area. Most definitely there because of the meeting. They wore trench coats and concealing outfits to hide their weapons and armor. But Vadlyne could see right through their guise. The way they stood, the way their clothes settled. They might as well have been shooting blindly into the sky.
But Vadlyne ignored the assortment of grunts. They were just small fish in a pool of sharks. She'd been hired by an anonymous "donor" who simply stated that they were working with the Blackguards. A simple job, really. Shoot and maim a target. Easy. Vadlyne made her way to the roof of the main building, which overlooked where the classroom sat from a perfect vantage point. There was only one guard on the roof. That made her laugh. She barely even had to sneak when she knifed him from behind. The assassin set up on the ledge of the roof and waited for the meeting to let out.
Finally, people started to leave the classroom. Generals. Colonels. Commanders. Vadlyne would have known some of their faces if she was interested at all by the ongoing civil war. But she wasn't, so she didn't recognize many. That was until she saw her target walk out of the doorway. There he was-- with what looked like his family, no less. Vadlyne smiled under the scarf as she carefully pulled out the pieces to her customized rifle with an altered handle for comfort. She put it together quickly with precision that came with years of practice and took aim immediately after. First, she took aim at the woman. Black hair, young and beautiful. Then she took aim at the older man. She recognized him as Kasimir Schmidt. One of the few men she'd actually recognize in this crew. And finally, she located her target in the sight of her scope. The young, ginger haired man that stood next to Kasimir. Vadlyne aimed at his chest and pulled the trigger with ease.

Sophia was about to give Danny another cuff over the head for being such a smart a** when she heard it. A loud bang, it echoed and kept on traveling, to Sophia's ears that was a familiar sound. An intentional gunshot made by a long range rifle of some sort she could tell since it was so loud and traveled so long. " An ambush?" Then she remembered that Kasimir and his family had traveled that very same way the gunshot had sounded. " Kashmir and his family !!" She exclaimed as jumped off the bench, this alerted Danny as he fell off the bench and struggled to reach around to the machine gun strapped to his back and pulled it off as he jumped up being rather clumsy as he pieced it together. But during all this time Sophia had already taken off, sprinting down the hall towards the sound of commotion. " Sophia wait !! Don't rush into the line of fire like that !!!" Danny shouted after her as he began to run in that direction too but Sophia had already disappeared through the door that lead outside onto campus plaza that sat outside of the main building. Sophia rushed down the stone steps, the soles of her boots pattering against the solid concrete. The first thing she saw was Kasimir, who's white clothing seemed to glow in the darkness of the night standing twenty feet in front of her a and his two children judging by the screams she knew someone was hit but she didn't bother to look as her first instinct was to rush forward into the spacious plaza pushing past anyone she made contact with in order to get into the front. " Get Kasimir and the others the hell out of here now !! " Sophia shouted without looking back as she peered up at the roofs of the buildings before her and her first move was to prevent any other shots from being fired as she raised her arms and sent a strong blast or rather wave of wind that flew up into the air and reached the tops of the roofs. The blast could have been compared to the winds of a hurricane as leaves were sent flying out of the gutters on top of the building and any windows in the backdrop were shattered or rattled. The metal panels of the roof were rattled loudly as well as anything on the roof would have to hold on for dear life before being knocked off the side. The over all sound of the strong wind roared above as the people on the ground were unaffected since Sophia had wormed herself to the front of the crowds of people to avoid hitting anyone else. Danny finally made it outside with machine gun in hand and rushed through the crowd and was about to take aim till his ginger bangs flew into his eyes from a escaped small gust of wind as he pushed them back and looked up at Sophia and could see the way the wind spell Sophia was using distorted the wind in front of her. " What the hell?"

Waive and Riley sprinted after Sophia, as did Commander Teagan and everyone else who was still in the classroom. When they exited the room, they found themselves looking at Kasimir and his daughter, Claire, leaning over a bleeding Croix. He seemed to be still conscious, but by how much blood was around, it was obvious he wouldn't have long if nobody did anything. Riley had been looking around nervously at the rooftops, soldiers were scrambling around with their weapons drawn. Waive made his way over to Croix and pressed down, hard, on his open wound. Pressure needed to be applied so it wouldn't keep bleeding out. Kasimir was in shock. Claire was in tears. And all of this while a maelstrom raged on above the rooftops. ... Was that Sophia's doing?
Vadlyne had already begun packing her equipment up when the gusts of wind started. First to go was her case which held her customized rifle. It flew off the side of the roof and didn't stop until it hit the wall on the building opposite to the one she'd been perched on and just about shattered it to pieces. Next, the dead guard she'd killed earlier was tossed up into the air and sent flying. At this point, Vadlyne realized she was in dire peril. She needed to get out of here. Fast. She wasn't going to stick around and end up like her suitcase. As she held onto the ledge for dear life, she managed to tap a few keys into her bracelet to call her sleek, purple hovercraft that she had parked before staking out her mark. It wobbled and hurled in the strong winds, but it still managed to hover above Vadlyne's current position. Now it was just the matter of getting inside without being tossed around like a rag doll. ... Actually, that gave her an idea. If she could just get the right wind direction, maybe she'd be able to fly right into the cockpit. So she waited. And finally, she waited long enough. Vadlyne let go of the ledge and immediately, she was blown off the ground and straight into the hull of her craft. She grasped and grabbed at whatever she could, but everything was too smooth and too large for her small hands. But then she caught something. It was the crease where the door met with the rest of the hull. The space was just large enough to fit her fingers into, so she held on until her fingers felt like they were breaking. But she managed to get the door open and pull herself in, finally. The door closed behind her and she laid there for a moment; her body aching all over.
