WELCOME TO THE MAUL

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

Today is one of the busiest shopping days of the Twelfth October, with Halloween folk from all over skipping out on work and school just to take advantage of the amazing sales available on this one day only. The Maul is teeming with shoppers of all races, shapes, and sizes, searching for the perfect Christmastival gifts for their close fiends and family. Holiday music plays throughout the building, coloured frightning bugs flicker to and fro, and festive minipets scamper about. And in the very center of it all, a giant, uniquely decorated tree towers above the shoppers. Supposedly imported from the actual world of Christmas, it is an awe-inspiring sight to see, though most try not to get to close to the JOY-infused decoration.

The OOC

- IF YOUR STUDENT IS AT THE SCHOOL PLAY, THEY MAY NOT BE AT THE MAUL. THESE TWO AREAS ARE RUNNING IN TANDEM.
- Due to the heavy foot traffic, the Maul has a limiting barrier placed on natural forms. Anything greater than 7 feet in any dimension is shrunk/locked down. This includes wingspan.
- Natural abilities are usable, but Maul Security may kick out anybody being too rowdy or destructive.
- Use this thread for reference as to what stores are at the Maul (ty pales and contributors <3)
- You may create branch-off PRPs and ORPs within the event forum. Be sure to label the location in the title, as in [MAUL PRP]
- Characters can only be in one RP thread at any given time, for everyone's sanity.
- Entering from/Exiting posts are an excellent way for you and others to keep track of a character's movement
- Bolding the names of other characters you're interacting with and quote-notifying other players will help keep your character from getting overlooked

Quest Characters

- You may play one quest character in this Maul setting, this is a good chance to take your favourite concept for an RP test drive
- During enrollment, subspecies/natural abilities/FEAR attack/and personal history are subject to GMs asking for changes, both small and large. It's recommended that you don't place a lot of focus on these aspects of your character unless you are very sure you won't have to retcon later.
- Your quest character is not an Amityville student just yet

[ ooc: I have Alistaire, my quest; and Ren in here ]

Alistaire Bates was not entirely certain why he had chosen to come to the maul this day.

He supposed he did rather need to get a few things - though the idea of having to face the enormous throngs of crowds that whisked to and from in front of him, laughing, shouting, singing, running, squeaking, squawking, chattering, and flapping was not exactly pleasant, especially since they seemed to be coming from every nook and crevice of the looming building.

Or so it seemed.

He decided it was much too crowded and he need not be here.

Five minutes later he changed his mind and headed back towards the doors.

Five minutes after that he had turned away and was studiously making his way back home.

It was almost twenty minutes later than the time he had originally gotten there that Alistaire finally stepped onto the marble floor of the maul, gazing up at the black ceiling with an expression of great woe and misery on his face. He liked conversing, certainly (depending on the subject, of course), but even this was a little much.

It was claustrophobic in here. Alistaire inched along the wall in a rather pathetic attempt at skittering past the mass of creatures going this way and that, keeping close to the storefronts.

After getting his toes stepped on three times by people rushing to the windows to see the sales, he decided that perhaps this wasn't a very good idea after all.

Maybe a drink would make him feel less despondent about the whole thing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He probably should have been at school - except he wasn't. In fact, Ren was nowhere near Amityville. Instead, he was ensconced in a tiny little cafe known as Taco Skull, eating a salad and reading a thick book, a pair of reading glasses perched at the end of his narrow, freckled nose.

Ren hadn't exactly meant to come here, but he had heard of some pretty good sales going on, and seeing as how he felt the need to express gratitude towards a few close friends, he felt as though he might find something good in the stores.

Except he hadn't really, and had wound up in the food court reading a book and eating instead of searching.

With a small sigh, he closed it, finished (it hadn't been very long), and tucked the small paperback into his back pocket before standing. He handed the waiter some money, then made his way from the safety and quiet of the humble little restaurant and out into the fast, bustling, busy, noisy main part of the mall.

He hadn't come with anyone; LW had not been feeling well, but it was actually a good thing, since Ren fully intended on buying his ghoulfriend something special. There was no actual occasion for doing this, but since when did he need one? And they had both been feeling rather down, lately - perhaps this would help somehow.

Or maybe he would just wind up back in a fountain like the last time he had been here.

Jacking Tybalt.

If he were lucky, Ren would not run into that black dog again. So, his shoulders set, his hands tucked into his pockets, Ren began to make his way through the maul to find a gift for LW.

((Alette is presently being quested for))

Alette reached the doors. His stomach twisting up into knots as he pushed the door open. Oh my. At first he was startled and stunned by /just how/ busy it was. But then by a passing shopper as they pushed past him causing him to stumble over a bit of ways.

"Move it!" Was all he heard before they vanished in the crowds.

He wandered over to the nearest wall to steel himself. Breathing /deep/ and then slowly exhaling. Repeatedly reminding himself he was doing this for a /reason/. A good reason. Maybe.

He eventually convinced himself to look around again. It seems he was in the Food Court nearest to Scarseeds. At least the smell was relaxing... oh wait! His eyes lit up and all seemed forgotten as he realized their sign mentioned hot cocoa.

Loooking to his left, theeeeeeen to his right he skittered towards Scarseeds on his hoofy-tips hoping to sneak in and out with hot cocoa in hand without being run into again.

I HOPE IT'S OKAY: Van and Amarus are at least going to say hi to Ren and ...Alista...Alis... Uh. Spelling :/

ENTER: Amarus, the Lotus-Eater.

Amarus had never been to the Maul before. In fact, she had never really been outside the place where she gained consciousness and outside Amityville Academy itself. So today was a day of firsts. And she was incredibly grateful that she was a ghost, for the first time she could remember. "At least I have no toes to step on," she mumbled, watching a boil hug the wall like she had been attempting, since she had not yet mastered phasing through anyone or anything. Really, it was unpleasant to be stuck in a halfway state. Regardless, she tried to keep her hands close to her body, and her hair coiled up around her arm lest someone stand on the rather long bound hair. Her lotus charm shone dully in the Maul lighting.

Where could she even go? What good was a sale if she didn't know what she wanted? She certainly didn't want books, she didn't even need a whole lot. Incense?... Amarus was curious, though: the boil she had seen before, she had kept him in her sight-- he just seemed so unhappy about everything. Who could possibly be so unhappy? Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that his feet kept getting trampled on, unlike hers.

She slipped along the wall, going intangible in different limbs as the situation required, given far too many creatures were vying for the same space she occupied, and although she was about to just follow him indefinitely out of curiosity, she realized that like with Sparrow, she was being creepy and inappropriate. So as soon as she was within range of the rather irritable-looking boil, Amarus reached out and tapped his shoulder with one tangible finger.

"I..." she looked around her, and realized she followed him longer than she meant to, "don't seem to know where I am, actually. Well, yes, the Maul, but apart from that, I appear to have followed you into territory from which I cannot escape on my own--" did she just accidentally admit to Maul-stalking him? "--and you look very displeased to be here. I was curious."

Her own face was mirror-empty, though her Lotus Smoke curled away from her body, reflected only in the pink essence flickering across her skin.

ENTER: Quest!Van.
Riyoku

It was full of people. It was warm. Cervantes flicked his large, fluffy black tail back and forth; for once, he was not thinking about how his tail was inadequate and strangely cute given his original pack, and he was not thinking about how he needed to train in order to improve. Rather, he was revelling in the stolen physical proximity, using the shopping crowd to try to warm himself up. He was bounding about the Maul, knocking into just about everyone.

He had been here to acquire scarves, mittens, sweaters-- just about everything he could drape over himself to keep warm. He loathed the cold weather, and to him, that was anything less than volcanic. Cervantes bounded through the line at Scarseeds, running into a boil with hooves as well as several others who were waiting in line. He then realized he'd gone the wrong way, and bounded back out. Apparently Van only had the two speeds: immobile with fidgets, or running. He hopped on top of the fountain's edge, somewhere along the way, scanned the crowd, and bounded off again.

Somehow, he hadn't seen the boil with large wings. Not until he was colliding with him, anyway. Well, half a collision: he skidded to a halt just in time to merely tumble into him, enjoy the fact that the boil was warm, and then pull away. His tail flicked back and forth, and the red glow of his eyes cast across his dark cheeks. He tilted his head to regard him for a moment. Did he look familiar?

Not at all. "Sorry, sorry. Hey, do you know the way to--" Van cast his eyes up. He lowered them again, and realized: I forgot what the store is called. "Uhhh..."

((Elden is a Quest))

It was large, loud, frightening.. Bright, unwelcoming. It was not at all the place Elden wanted to end up in, not on his first visit into town. Not when he knew nothing of the customs and knew of no one but his own family traveling in tow. They insisted he get out and explore, but they had been around these strangers so many times before. Their efforts to get the young boil out and about were only to be sure that he could manage life on his own, as enrollment within a near by academy would require it. They were at ease with the foreign populace. Not Elden. Not yet.

And the Maul was jammed pack with these individuals, as strange as the stories told, all mingling in one place at one time. An assortment of music hung in the air as heavy as the smells which passed, habit forcing a light hop to every step he took.. Yet, whether the elements of the scenario were usual occurrences or the happenings of some bizarre ritual, Elden didn't have time to question; he simply fell into line with another, strange looking individual up against the wall and crept along until the other boil stopped.

Elden froze, neck turned to face the demon with a deer in headlights stare. Before Alistaire had the chance to abandon the wall, the spriggan may have also emitted a strange, high-pitched squeak. The ghoul who had also approached him received an equally startled glance.

Face your demons

Alette was effectively plowed into by Van. Falling over proper this time with a loud clatter of horns and hooves on the marble floor. Though this time rolling over to sit up as fast as he could to shout after them, fist swinging furiously in the air.

"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!"

Once the initial indignant rage faded he scanned the crowd trying to catch a glimpse of the guilty party before finally scrabbling to get to his hooves and dusting himself off. Still muttering in annoyance. Seems he could not find them in the busy crowds. So many people were running to get here or there and he couldn't just /assume/.

He siiiigghhhhed in absolute frustration as he turned to look back towards the front of the line. Surely hot cocoa cures all. Especially with those teeny tiny martianmallows .

((I am bringing in Morrigan and my quest character Malkav. ))

Morrigan was not pleased. She had just grabbed an amazing pair of shoes when some witch decided it would be great to play tug of war with her. In the end, she lost the shoes and the witch skipped away happily. It was all she could do to keep her mimic at bay. If he had his way, the witch would have been ripped to shreds but the last thing she wanted was to be kicked out of the Maul. Her father would kill her if she was caught in some sort of scandal as well. Everything that reflected on her reflected on them, he was so fond of saying. Sometimes, she wanted to get in trouble just to stick it to him but the repercussions of those actions wouldn't be worth it in the end.

The day wasn't a total loss when it came to the sales. She hugged her shopping bag to her chest and smiled. She scored a cute little outfit for 25% off and a some scary awesome makeup as well! She paused briefly when she eyed the food court, just as her stomach gave a little growl in response. She had skipped out on her morning meal, too afraid that she'd get to the Maul too late. "Are you hungry, Mimic?" It was more of a statement than a question. He was always hungry.

-------------------------

Sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp!

The bloody milkshake was bloody fantastic and he loved the way it made that annoying sound every time he placed his lips to the straw and sucked the wondrous liquid in his mouth. What he loved more was the distaste and disgust in the people around him.

Sluuuuuuuurp! Sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp!

He opened up a box of some kind of meaty product he had purchased for the hell of it. He didn't eat food but the image over the counter showed that they came in various shapes. Some looked humanish, others looked monstrous. He bought them for the sole purpose of playing with them.

He opened up the box and plucked out the first two he saw. One was a human, male by the shape of it. The other looked like some kind of monster, big, like a yeti or minotaur. It was hard to make out some of the shapes. He took the human one and had him walk around on the table for a minute before bringing the other one around in his other hand.

"TIME TO DIE," the meaty monster nugget roared.

"No sir, please! I'm too delicate to challenge you to a fair and proper duel. I have a wife and four children. My littlest one, he's got a broken face. I spent the last of my money to buy them food. They are starving! Please, let me go home to them," he had the human nugget say in a very hushed and scared tone.

"YOU TALK TOO MUCH," he had the monster nugget yell before moving to slam him into the human one. The two nuggets became squished together until the only thing that remained were pieces of meat strewn across the table and onto the floor.

Sluuuuuuuuuuuuuurpppppthhthththkkkkkkkkkk...kkk...k...

Alas, nothing remained of the delicious drink. "You were a good friend and I enjoyed our conversation earlier, but all things die," he whispered, knocking the empty cup down. His friends always had a way of leaving as quickly as they had come.

He was bored.

(( In pops Vero! ))

It was not often Vero was allowed out of his exchange home, but his time with the odd couple was done. A week ago, he had been released back to the hive with very little to say about the entire experience other than humanoids were entertaining when intoxicated. The hive had not been pleased with his report, however truthful.

Their so-called punishment? Enter the maul at its busiest time and report upon the humanoids there. It was almost a half-hearted assignment, if not half-something else . . .

And thus was how the two foot tall ghost found himself in the middle of a crowd, easily buffeted about as shoppers swarmed through the halls. He could hear someone roaring with nuggets, someone squeaking, someone yelling about wrongness, and saw the pink-haired demon strutting. Tracing her path led Vero to see what looked like two Amityville students (judging from their pins), as well as those conversing with the ones he had seen and heard.

The maul was a busy, busy place. Not unlike a hive. Perhaps there was a purpose to this assignment.

Vero half hoped he could see someone from his last trip out, but unfortunately he did not know his friends Edel and Muka were in the academy's play. He did hope to at one point send letters, however. Writing was just difficult.

Speaking of! The spirit pulled out his journal and began to scribe notes as he observed each individual.

((A wild domestic TG has appeared.))

This time of the year was the season of panic spending. Splurging, living outside of your means, and the necessity to get that perfect, high-priced hot item for little Grimy and Hatha. Seeds flowed from buyer to seller, blue collar to mass producer in an instant and in rapid succession. The Maul of this sort was not the type of place TG would commonly find himself linger in. It was too much of a melting pot for anyone that could crawl, fly, or drag themselves through the front door which had no filtration system of keeping every Tom, d**k, and Scarey from getting in. Rubbing elbows however, during this season, was something both his fathers could agree upon was an excellent exercise in refreshing the necessity of knowing the people, their spending habits, and becoming a better banker. In this instant, savings were being withdrawn and second mortgages were in the making, and that was why TG was dropped off and left to linger about the crowded aisles and avenues of the Maul and just observe.

For shopping, he didn't have anyone on his list. If he ever wanted anything, He would work the numbers and propose the idea and see if it was within that month's spending allowance he had dictated. If anything more than that, he sent the proposal to his fathers. Holidays did not dictate hsi spending habits. Numbers did.

It didn't seem to affect anyone else though as he left Starseeds and dusted off a seat before sitting down. There were no calculates, or even duplicates requested for receipts when making purchases. How were they going to update their budget spending that the week?

He took a sip of his Egg-grog and finally cracked a sharp-toothed smile. Ah. THAT was at least one thing he enjoyed about this season.

((Elden is a Quest))

He would have stayed in that eerily stilled trance waiting to hear more from the ghoul or to catch what the boil might have to say in reply, blindly assuming that his presence was not at all awkward and even more so then that; gone unseen! But something in the distance caught his attention. The roar of something mighty and the familiar slurp of liquid may have been it, or perhaps it was the motions of which the individual made. Either way the spriggan was pressing off of the wall and bouncing toward the food court, offering the two behind him a quick, emotionless glance.

The bluish demon paused only momentarily in his quest as a sight even stranger than the raging boil some ways ahead, dressed in brown robes came to pass. A bug. It was a bug. And instinctively the spriggan boil approached with his mouth salivating ever so slightly. The wigs were kept hidden he supposed by the garbs the other wore, otherwise they would have been ripped off and devoured, and while the notebook in hand should have implied an intelligence that the forest insects of his home lacked--Elden couldn't help but come in close for a quick sniff.

But just as suddenly as he had approached Vero, Elden was off again; offering another emotionless glance over his shoulder.

The enthusiasm at the strangers table had died down considerably, the cup landing just as he came to stand silently at the boils side. His eyes were just as wide as they always were, peering first at the wares on the table and then up to Malkav.

He still did not say a word.

((At the maul today is Belladonna!! Have fun, kiddo~))

BEST. DAY. EVER!!!

There was really nothing the witch loved more than a bout of good shopping. It was always so relaxing and invigorating at the same time! Like, really intense yoga or something!
Whatever. It didn't matter because she was shopping and that's what mattered. Obviously!

Belladonna skipped happily through the crowds, weaving and dodging people and limbs and wings and whatever other appendages the people of Halloweentown possessed with a great sense of joy. (But not the same kind of JOY that poured from that wretched tree someone had found it appropriate to bring into the maul, YUCK!) Though she didn't have very many people to shop for (just her family and a few lucky students here and there), the witch was slowly finding her list of people to buy presents for growing. It had started out with only the people she had seen recently, but had quickly expanded to some former friends she didn't want to make feel left out. She still really liked them! She just... Hadn't gotten to see them lately is all.
But no matter! They would still receive presents!

The only problem with shopping was that it was a fairly solitary activity. Though the witch was certain she could have asked someone to come along with her, she had elected to go it alone and now readily regretted the decision. Some help really would have been appreciated at Victorian's Secret when she couldn't decide between one corset or the other and instead ended up buying both. Huh... Maybe she could turn that to her advantage and give the other one to--
"REEEEEN~" Belladonna sing-songed as she skipped toward the boil and wrapped her bag-be-clad arms around one of his. "Hiya!" She greeted with a great smile and a wave of her bags. "You shopping too?" She cooed at him, more than glad to find someone she knew (and had already bought a present for!).
After a moment she paused and noticed the people around him and waved, a little shyly.

All Vero did as the blue-skinned one approached him was blink. And scribble. "Curious set of clothes. Or half-clothes. What keeps warm? Hair, possibly, lengthy enough to wrap around body. Or perhaps too late. Blue skin can signify frostbite. Undead?" he posed after the quick succession of words, pencil at the ready. "Small salivation, possible for new breed of zombie, known droolers when in pursuit of meal."

The smell of egg-grog made Vero turn his head slightly to identify the source - an equally small, red-skinned boil. All sorts in this maul indeed!

The vampire grinned broadly as the boil neared his table. It was a welcoming smile for the most part, at least as welcoming as Malkav could manage. "I was wondering when you would get here," he commented as he leaned forward to rest his chin on both hands. "I was afraid that your evil stepmother would keep you in that tower forever. Have a seat, Rapunzel, and tell me the tale of what I'm sure was a most harrowing escape." He kicked the chair on the opposite end of the table, intending to scoot it enough for this fairytale creature to sit down. Instead, he only managed to knock it over.

"I'm Mad," he greeted simply, as if he were commenting on nothing more than the weather.

"Malkav the Mad."

TG was not a fan of people looking at him and not saying anything. It was suspicious and he found it rather insulting. It didn't help that the creature in question was clearly NOT a demon, and was also writing. If it was about him, which it probably was (why wouldn't it be? There was so much to write about him!), he didn't want it to continue.

"Keep your eyes on your page, monster." He shot back, looking away to drink his egg-grog.
