Chris had woken early that morning not able to stay asleep after hearing a racket outside his window. His Aunt had been awake already but his cousins were not. He had quietly accepted a small breakfast and then headed out. There was nowhere in particular that Chris wanted to go and he ended up in the marketplace.

After browsing for a bit and conversing with a few acquaintances, Chris made his way to the end of the marketplace and sat down leaning against the wall. The blonde was not sure what he had planned for the day and still had a lot of time to kill before heading to school if he even bothered today. He would often skip feeling that school was a waste of his time and that what he learned there he already knew or was irrelevant to what he wanted to do.

People were starting to wake and slowing make their way outside. Chris opened a book and quickly stuck his nose in it beginning to read to ward off anybody that might think about starting a conversation with him. It was also partially to hide from peacekeepers thinking they mind start toying with him.

Venus walked into the marketplace with a tired look in her eyes. She didn't know why but she'd gotten up even earlier that morning than usual. And she regretted it so badly. She needed sleep, it was what kept her running. Waking up three hours before it was needed was overkill. Of course her father wasn't awake yet and she had school so she couldn't go work in the fields. The next best thing was work her sleep off in a walk. She only hoped it worked.

The marketplace wasn't really the nicest place to walk. The forest was much better. But she often enjoyed watching the clamor of the multiple people. As well as to see if anything caught her eye. Which rarely happened. Other than the possibility of getting something useful and finding good, brief entertainment, the marketplace was practically useless to her.

Venus had made it half way through when the sun finally peaked out behind a building. More people were starting to leave the comfort, and safety, of their homes. She found it ironic how you could feel so endangered under the watch of something peacekeepers. Of course the peacekeepers made more chaos and trouble than they were worth or solved. Though Venus knew not to voice her contempt for the government or the capitol. Or authority in general. Which was probably why she skipped half of her classes. She wasn't the biggest fan of the teachers either.

Plus it was so easy to find other things to do. At one point of the year, watching the Hunger Games was an easy choice. But most of the time just working in the fields was occupying enough. Things happened there sometimes. Good or bad. Generally bad but, you never know.

Chris got bored of the book fairly quickly. It was one he had read numerous time s before and could almost recite half of it if asked. Maybe he would get out of here and go hide in the fields or the orchards. He didn't want to go home to his aunt because she would chide him for skipping school. Again. He knew that his teachers probably told her he was skipping often, but she rarely mentions it.

Chris often tries to plot small ways to mess with the order, but nothing severe enough that IF he got caught he would be severely punished. It was usually small things here and there and even then it was hard to prove he had done it. Then again the peacekeepers don't need proof as shown by when he was punished and he hadn't even done the crime. Chris secretly suspected it was one of the guys trying to be like him.

Chris got up from his spot at the end of the marketplace and slowly started to make his way out hoping that nobody in the crowd would stop him. What he really didn't want was a confrontation today. Chris tried to keep his head down as he made his way through the crowd starting to form and out of the marketplace.

As Venus neared the other end of the market, she spotted a familiar blonde head walking the other way, eyes down. She couldn't help but chuckle. Didn't Chris know that if he kept his eyes down all the time he'd look even more suspicious and guilty? Opposed to walking like he was confident, like everything was normal, nodding every now and then at others in greeting.

Much like how Venus walked really. The only difference that the only eye contact made was on the other's part. She didn't make an effort to avoid eye contact. Rather everyone else avoided her eyes. She had a feeling why but she never made an assumption. No one told her, so she never guessed. Instead she just walked with confidence, relaxed, and her signature 'I know something you don't' base in her eyes. Which, on occasion, got her in trouble.

Hardly really changing her pace or direction, Venus walked to where she was not quite next to Chris but close enough that he could hear her say pointedly "You know if you always watch your feet, no one's going to believe you're innocent. Or you'll run into people." Her voice wasn't lowered and it wasn't raised. It was her normal level of voice really. She supposed it could be considered lowered by someone who didn't know her well.

Not that she knew Chris all that well. They'd talked before on several occasions. Mainly school. On days they both happened to go. And sometimes in the fields. She'd heard about his parents and what had happened a few years back. Of course she had been a bit curious about it. But seeing how she did get irritated at people who asked about why her mother was gone, she never pried.

Vienna walked into the entrance of the marketplace and gave a small curious smile. It was good to get out of the house and get some fresh air. Being the District 11 mentor's daughter a lot was expected of you and you didn't have to do much. Uh, BOR-ING. Vienna loved adventure much like the stories her mother told her of the Games. Tales of great adventure and conquest. Of course, the blood was definitely not on Vienna's list of like's...the thought made her grow faint but she fought through the urge to black so she could hear the end of each tale. One day, Vienna hoped to have good adventure stories to tell her own kids...that is if any one bothered to have kids with her.

Vienna was pretty right? She looked much different then the people who lived around District 11, her extremely fair skin and perplexedly large blue eyes. Actually their was quite a bit of people around who looked like her but she looked as if she was more...regal? Or more wealthy or upper class then most. Her mtoher told he she had plucked her out of an orphanage in District 1. The people their were fairly wealthy and well. they weren't known for their beauty and creating luxuries for nothing right?

As she strolled further she that she bumped into someone. She collasped onto the cold ground, humiliated. She steadied herself as she got back up. She felt anger course through her. "Look, you little rotten worm rigged apple, I don't know who you think you are,but you better watch where you are goi-." She stopped her sentence midway and turned her head to see Chris looking confused. She bit her lip. "Ehhhh....Sorry Chris. My bad, dude. Just watch where you are going, kay?" She said in a less venomous way. Chris was one of those nicer people Vienna tolerated. Vienna smiled and gave him an awkward friendly one-hunger hug and messed up his hair a bit. She did this to most of her friends.

She turned to see Venus was also speaking to him. "Hey Venus!" She flung her arms around the girl, with a light smile tugging at the ends of her mouth. "Looking forward to school?" She asked sarcastically, a sour look appeared on her face. "So what are you two doing in the market this fine day?" She asked them, hoping to not be to loud and attracted attention. She was pretty sure she knew what thy were doing but....she liked ask. But she didn't want them to get in trouble so she made sure that quiet about it.

Chris heard a familiar voice that almost made him groan and when he was about to turn and respond he ran into somebody just as she had said. Great now his retort was completely useless. He blamed her for distracting him. Chris was actually good at maneuvering crowds with his head down but he supposed Venus was right.

He looked to see who he had run into and mumble out an apology but what he turn almost made him groan yet again. it was one of the victor's daughters and she had started to yell until she realized who it is. He turned back to Venus first and responded, "Nobody thinks I'm innocent anyway." It was mostly true though even when he was totally innocent he was believed to be a suspect.

What Chris really wanted to do was to keep walking and not get caught up in this conversation. Maybe go find his cousin, but that would be rude as his aunt kept telling him so he scuffed his foot all of a sudden Vienna was awkwardly embracing him. He flinched slightly at the contact and said, "Yea sure sorry." Honestly the only person he knew not to attend school basically as much as himself was Venus because they would sometimes run into each other. He didn't pay attention much to anybody but he tried to be at least considerate to some people.

Chris' face was neutral as he held up his book and said, "Was doing some reading whilst hiding from peacekeepers." The explanation was pretty straightforward. "Also thinking about what to do today." Today was a school day and not one he planned on attending.

When Chris inevitably did get run into by someone, Venus bit back a smartass remark. She almost jumped to his defense at the girl when she realized it was Vienna. Of course she would have defended him anyway. Had Vienna not apologized and tried to make up for it.

Even with Vienna, Venus was not a hugger. So when she threw her arms around her in a hug, it took her a second to hug her back lightly. Venus couldn't help but snort at her question. "Oh yeah, really looking forward to it." She said, rolling her eyes.

"I'm here because I'm avoiding a reason to go to school." She told her with a shrug. Acting like it was completely normal. Which it was. Venus really never needed a reason to skip school. She just did. No real reason for her to go, no reason for her to not skip. For her, this was normal. Vienna, eh, she wasn't sure. Yeah she was friends with the girl, which was rare for her, but she couldn't really predict her.

One of the reason's she liked the girl really. They both had been just able to deal with eachother at first. Some how able to handle eachother's personalities. Which was a main reason they'd been able to grow close as friends. Also, Venus could never achieve scaring the other off. Which, while she'd been trying, had been considerably irritating. Now though, she was glad she had at least one person to have around when she needed company, other than her dad.

Venus couldn't help but chuckle again and look over at Chris. "No, but making yourself look guilty doesn't exactly help either." She pointed out. She tilted her head slightly to read the title of his book as he held it up then straightened it again. She looked over at Vienna and raised an eyebrow. "What are you doing in the market on this 'fine' day?" She asked with a ghost of a half smile half smirk on her face.

The rich blonde turned her head as he heard his very slurred and slightly un meaningful apology. Vienna let him slide, knowing and predicting the Venus must have made the usual funny remark and Chris was trying to avoid the horrible fate in which Venus thoughtfully for saw in her minds eye. She knew this because she was quite observant. She noticed a lot of little detail most people didn't. It was trait she was quite proud of. She gave a slight no din his general direction. "Heh. It's no problem, just have to keep your eyes away from your toes is all. Plus I actually might have accidentally walked in to you. But no matter." She brushed off the subject cordially as if a piece of lint of her jacket.

She stifiled a giggle at Venus' remark about school. "Oh Vee. School is so buh-or-ing. I mean..gosh the teachers usually fall asleep while gving their own lectures. Pa-the-tic." She said saying each word with emphasis. She hated school, but if she ditched her mom would freak...but then again. What Mom didn't know wouldn't hurt her. Vienna nodded. It was very common for Venus to miss school she usually showed up less then half of the time...she only showed up when the school was having little celebrations and stuff. "Ah, so I see." She nodded in reply.

She smiled at Chirs' comment and examined the book. "Huh, that's a legitament enough reason for me. Better be an adventure book!" She warned but couldn't keep a straight face and laughed. He knew she loved adventure as much as anything in the whole world. Everyone did. She smiled at Venus. "Oh me? Just strolling along...buying my friends." She hinted towards Venus and Chris. "Anything form this marketplace they would so please!" She smiled. She was more wealthy then the most around these parts and could probably never go hungry or be poor. "Actually now that you think about it.... Mommy's little princess wants a little free time. Mind if I ditch with you all...I am sure Mrs. Delton will be to busy snoring to notice." She giggled. "What Mom doesn't know won't hurt her,right...promise not to tell?" She asked putting a finger to her lips telling them to keep her secret.

Chris couldn't help but notice a lot of similarities between himself and Venus. It was a bit unnerving something although they also had their differences like every other living thing. Chris shrugged again at Venus' comment. Sometimes he has a lot on his mind and can't help but look a bit gloomy or suspicious. "I guess I'll need to work on that then." He said to Venus so she didn't wonder what he was thinking.

Chris still believed it was mainly Venus' fault for distracting him, but hey if she was willingly taking some blame kudos to that. "Well I'm sure they've said them more than we've heard them." He said as he rolled his eyes. "I bet I could recite some of their lectures and we all know how little I've heard them." Honestly Chris was a bit surprised he wasn't flunking school or getting some major punishments. Guess it was a good thing to have a quick mind.

Chris couldn't help but smile a bit at Vienna's comment. He knew how she loved her adventure, but it wasn't so he didn't really want to voice that. His smile faded a bit at the mention of buying them anything they needed. No, not needed, pleased. Chris wasn't sure if she was joking or not, but he would never be able to accept anything. He hated owing people and it was something he tried to avoid. He did all he could to help his aunt and cousins because they took him in after everything.

Chris' face became neutral again hiding his emotions. Sometimes Vienna could annoy him it was mainly just her upbringing and he tried not to blame her too much. "Not like I'd ever even talk to her so yea I won't tell." He said deciding not to say he would prefer to be alone. His face hid that as he was skilled at hiding his thoughts and true feelings.

Venus gave Chris a bit of an apologetic look. She did feel a bit bad for distracting him and making him run into Vienna. Stopping his seeming 'escape' from the crowd of the market. Though she knew either way Vienna most likely would have seen one of them anyway. So she wasn't going to dwell on that.

Venus didn't have to try to keep a straight face at Vienna's mini rant about school. It wasn't hard. Or new to her really. Instead she just raised an eyebrow and gave her a 'what else is new?' look but chuckled for Vienna's benefit. Vienna and Chris were probably the only people other than her dad she didn't make an effort to be nice to. Or at least tolerable.

Though she did have to try not to frown when Vienna hinted she'd buy them something if they wanted. She knew it shouldn't, but that pretty much translated to her as charity. Which she refused to take willingly. If something was left at her home, she would make an effort to find out who left it and return it. She didn't have time or resources to return debt. Venus knew she really shouldn't view it like this. Not with Vienna who was just trying to be nice.

She couldn't help smirk when she suggested then asked if she could ditch with them. She shrugged. "I'm no rat. If I were, we probably wouldn't be here." She pointed out. She slid her hands into her pockets and looked back at Vienna after glancing around. "Though I'm more of a soloist, I wouldn't mind. Just gotta be a bit more careful." She advised. It was true. Ditching school with more than one person can attract unwanted attention. Which Vienna did anyway. Oh, this will be interesting.

The victor's daughter gave Chris a slight smile, not quite earned yet but halfway there. Vienna enjoyed toying with people, joking with them, giving them half earned smiles and hafl assed answers. But in school she was perfect little angel, your typical goody-goofy two shoes. But really she lived a double life she went to school and was perfect she came home (when her mom wasn't around) and dreamed of being BAD. Being a rebel, breaking rules and having that feeling that you did something not so perfect for once. Today was that day, she smiled. "Oh jeez. I know right...I get the feeling they just like to hear themselves talk and stuff I mean it like...do they HAVE an off button." She could feel herself rambling and stopped herself short.

She laughed brightly. "I would totally pay to hear you recite one of those in front of the entire district if you would. Haha, some times I wonder...do they notice that most of us are missing or staring out that huge window on the left wall?" She wondered out loud. She wasn't lying, if Chris did in fact recite one of those then she would totally have a nice good laugh with Venus about it.

She sighed as though it seemed that they didn't want to buy anything. Vienna began to object a bit. "Ahwww. Come on guys! Anything, anything you want. My treat. Come on...think of it as a very early or late birthday present!" She said as she tempted them to buy something.

She smiled at Venus. This was very true. Venus would never do something like that to her. No matter how obnoxious she could be sometimes. That just wasn't her style. "Oh good. I knew I could count on you guys!" She piped in a happy sounding tone, sweepings her voice down. She nodded, a few minutes of awkward silence passed and Vienna tapped her foot. "So like.....what do you do when you ditch and stuff? Are you just supposed to stand here?" This was like her first time ditching so, mommy perfect little princess was very confused.

Venus shook her head as Vienna tried to convince them to buy something. She wouldn't be swayed that easily. Even if it did make Vienna happy, or how sweet of a deal she made it sound. She was stubborn and wasn't going to say yes if her first answer was no. So she just said "Maybe next time Vienna." She told her.

One of the oldest suggestions in the book. Because you never knew if there was going to be a next time. Or if the offerer was going to remember. Or if the denier would. Of course Venus would. Vienna, maybe. Would she bring it up ever again? Probably not. Would Vienna? Probably yes. Venus could tell Chris felt the same.

Honestly the fact of how similar she and Chris were, half amused half concerned her. They did have their differences, everyone did. No matter how close to a person they were. Then there was Chris and Venus and people like them. Well, maybe not like them, but in similar situations. Where, yes they hung out on occasion, yes they chatted and had a few things, traits, in common. But the fact was how alike they were even before they really met. Those few weeks at school had been confusing. She still had new kids walking up and asking if they were related. The answer was always the same. No. Though at times she would wonder what it would be like to have a brother like Chris. Then she'd just think of a secondary her running around the house.

When Vienna broke a normal silence with her question, Venus realized. Vienna never skipped. Ever. Great, time to teach Vienna how to ditch. She looked up from her feet and at Vienna, raising an eyebrow and shrugging. "No. I don't really know what he does. Usually I hang around at my house, or around. But no, staying in one place too long is not a good idea." She told Vienna. She looked up the market again, trying to think of a place to go. One common place for her was to laze around in the taller parts of the field no one could see you in. Namely along the border with District 9 in the wheat fields that overlapped into their own District. A good walk, yes, but worth it at times.

Venus saw a small shape heading in her direction and looked down to see a small rubber ball bump against her feet. A mutt dog following not too far behind. The dog barked and looked at her expectantly. Venus chuckled and bent down, grabbing the ball. She bounced it a couple times, noticing the dog follow the ball with his eyes. She smirked and pulled her arm back, pulling it forward, and sending the ball off. Clearing the heads of the people around them. At the same second, the dog shot off after it. Turning back to Chris and Vienna she said "I don't know bout you guys, but staying in one place is not my specialty. I know where I'm going, if you guys want to come go ahead. Not too exciting, but it's a place to relax." Doing a little two finger salute, she turned around and, pretty much following the path of the dog, she walked through the crowd of people. If they waited too long to follow, Venus would probably be lost from sight. Not that it was too crowded. She just blended in easily.

Both of them were soloists which. He just hoped being in a large ditch group wouldn't attract attention. He could do without more attention than he already possessed. A smile played across Chris' lips. "Sorry but you won't see me doing that. Not even for all the luxury in the country." He said to Vienna. Of course, if it meant setting up his aunts and cousins and paying back the enormous debt he owned them then perhaps he might consider it.

Chris wasn't about to change his mind about Vienna's offer. He stuck to his beliefs and the only people that could sway that were his cousins. They made him give in with the smallest request. He just shook his head slightly not wanting to disappoint Vienna too much.

The talk then went to what they do while ditching. "Standing around usually just causes trouble." He said to Vienna and added, "Home is usually out for me since my Aunt is often there and doesn't approve of me skipping really..." It would lead to too many other things and just make a mess. Chris was a bit reluctant to continue with others while ditching but perhaps making an effort might be a good change. "I guess I'll tag along for now." He said and headed off following Venus.

Vienna pouted and crossed her arms over her chest in a very child-like manner. "Awe. Fiiiiiiine. But if you need anything just ask." She said with a joking wink as if she had money growing out of her ears. She didn't but she might as well have. Vienna lived around luxury. She knew it was tempting and a little bit offensive to District 11's *cough* lower class citizens *cough*. But it wasn't like she flaunted it in people's faces or publicly created certain times where she would drop money from the top of the vendors and pretend it was rain. Fine. Maybe she did dream of doing that, but it would be awful and terribly out of line. She erased the thought and listened to the two...ditchers speak on.

When Chris mentioned that standing around was a bad idea, Vienna stiffened. "I guess we should get moving then, huh?" She smiled as then it faltered quickly as she considered the punishment. If she was caught her mother might do unspeakably horrible things to her. Such as lock her in the room from the inside...her mother would have the only key or worse *gasp* CUT HER ALLOWANCE. The mocking tones of the mean girls from school rang in her ears. Awww poor wittle Vienna Arrowpoint? What's the matter? Do you have so much money coming out of your ears that you've turned deaf? That's a darn shame...Why don't you have your mommy buy you a whole house just for you to cry in all ALONE. See you around, Miss Killjoy."

The words felt like a blow to the face, a stab in the stomach, bullet to the heart. Vienna was no typical rich girl. She had feelings too! She wasn't to hard to tolerate. Despite the fact she was kind of a snob sometimes. She couldn't help it, it was the way she was raised. She had a heart and it wasn't made of plastic. She bit her lip and regained the sight of the world, her face flooded with hurt, anguish and emotional pain. She hoped that they wouldn't notice...but she was sure they would.

She listened as they spoke about ditching. This was an entirely new subject to her that she was ready to learn. She nodded dilgentally. "Alright then! Okay...soooo....we are going over to your place then?" She knew her place was out of the question. She glanced as Chris finished his statement and nodded. "Mine too! Buh-or-ring Mom is such a stick-in-the-mud. Ugh.' She shook her head and cleared her head of thoughts. She was excited. "Okay!! Let's go then! Oh my gosh. I am soo excited! " She replied a little too cheerfully and put her arms draped over the shoulders of Venus and Chris and started walking. Ignoring the looks they gave her.
