The trip wasn't a terribly long one. Inessa had spent most of the 4,700 miles asleep on the plane that whisked her away to Tokyo, Japan; away from her native Russia. The huge crowds at the airport had physically drained her and she couldn't help but nod off.

The airport in Tokyo was much worse but she didn't care as much. Being in a stupor half in dreams and half in the real world made passage through the loud bustle and heavy din of the crowd much easier.

It was not until she was in the spacious front hall of the ryokan that she fully wakened. Her odd eyes drifted around, shifting from the rich blue, to purple, to blue again in the changing light. Her long dress was rumpled and wrinkled from travel and was in contrast to her pristine boots. Her hair was in a tight braid to keep it from getting all over the place from travel.

She placed the two briefcases she carried down at her feet. Inessa wasn't exactly sure what to do. Whenever her family went on a trip, her father took care of things like this.

"Welcome to the Ishii family inn," Syph greeted, taking it upon himself to welcome the woman. This wasn't really his job, but half the staff was on vacation. It was a slow time of the year and Yuuma, the ryokan's newest owner, had given most of them time off to get ready for the seasonal rush. Syph himself had no where else to go, so he continued working.

Wearing a maroon komon, he looked very much like a female, with little to give away that he wasn't. Yuuma said it would bring in more customers, but Syph was pretty sure Yuuma didn't want to admit he had hit on a male when they first met. The Fahlen bowed politely to the guest and asked, "Do you have a reservation?"

At first she was taken back by the appearance of the dainty redheaded woman in the maroon kimono. Giving a nervous grin, the blonde bowed back, moving awkwardly as she did so. Inessa was not accustomed to bowing to anyone no matter what the reason. Even out of politeness and observance of the culture it felt odd to the tall and leggy blonde.

Another moment passed and she listened very carefully to the words the girl spoke. Although she had studied the language extensively since she was in her early teens, she had not been able to fully grasp it. Languages were not her strong suit.

“Ah yes. I am Inessa Alekseeva. I do have the reservation for this inn.” Her Japanese was decidedly slow and her accent curled the words strangely.

Syph bowed politely in response and moved behind the front desk to look at the reservation book. He was impressed with the woman's grasp of the language, although he could tell she still felt awkward using it. He'd only been on Earth for six months, and though he learned a great deal of Japanese in the short time the stranger stayed on his planet, he still messed up from time to time. Syph completely sympathized with her in this aspect.

"What is your name?" The boy asked, trying to use Japanese as simply and clearly as he could.

She bit her lip and walked up to the front desk as the woman went behind it. Her hands dared to shoot up to her mouth (Inessa had a horrible habit of biting her nails when nervous) but she managed to keep the pinned tightly to her sides.

“Inessa Alekseeva,” she replied, saying her name again. “I am not sure how that would look written in this language though.”

"It is probably in katakana," he commented in his naturally calm and quiet voice. Syph ran his finger over the list of names in the reservation book, skipping over the ones in kanji. "A-re...A-re..." he murmured, taking a gander at what the first two characters in katakana might be. "Here it is."

Syph replaced the book, not bothering to mark anything. His handwriting was beyond horrid, so it was easier to tell someone about it later than it was to be yelled at for making a mess of the records. He gently motioned for Inessa to follow him. "This way please. If you would like to leave your bags, someone will deliver them to your room."

The Fahlen lead the way further into the inn. they walked through a door to the open hall, surrounding around a serene little garden. About half of the room's entrances faced this garden, while the other half of the rooms faced outwards, taking in more of a natural scene of the surrounding area. Syph slid open the door to one of the rooms and stepped aside.

She listened carefully, remembering that the ‘l’ phonetic wasn’t used in the Japanese language. Or that was what she thought anyway; again cursing that her ability with language wasn’t as good as she wanted it to be. There seemed to be no difficulty, however, with finding her reservation and for that she was grateful.

There was a moment’s pause when the girl suggested that Inessa leave her bags in the front. Nothing too terribly expensive was inside of them (at least not things considered expensive to her) but the luggage itself was custom made from Russia’s premier designer. Finally she decided to do what the bellhop said and followed her towards the room Inessa would be staying in.

“This is a very nice place. I have always preferred staying at traditional sorts of places. The… the… what’s the word… ah! The lack of Western influenza is wonderful.” Her cheeks blared bright red and she placed her hands to her face. “I mean influence.”
