Introduction to the Dragon Cave
Dragon Cave is a free adoptables site. The premise of DC is that you are a dragon trainer with a seemingly unlimited lifespan who collects dragon eggs and raises them to become adults. Like many adoptables sites, the dragons are represented by graphics and are not actual living organisms, or even simulations. These graphics consist of sprites: small pixelated images-that "grow" on your scroll (the scroll being a list attributed to your personal account, consisting of your dragons and their statistics). Based on time, clicks, and views, the dragon will hatch and grow into an adult. If certain requirements are not met (x amount of clicks/views) within a set time period, the egg or hatchling will die. There are many different breeds, or types, of dragons, and collectors are free to collect based on their own preferences. This can include single-breed scrolls, scrolls consisting only of rares or of their favorite breed(s), frozen hatchling "armies" (hordes of hatchlings that will never reach adulthood), or simply users trying to collect all breeds. Several dragons are secret or discontinued (see Dragon Types for more information), making the game much more interesting for users looking for "complete sets."
In order to do anything, you must first get an egg. There are two types of eggs you can find: "new" eggs from various locations on the map, and "abandoned" eggs.
Stealing Eggs
Biomes
Picking a biome and searching is the most reliable source of eggs. There are six different biomes where you can find eggs:
Alpine: Dragons that like high altitudes tend to be found in these mountainous areas. Coast: The seas are full of diverse dragon life, and many breeds can only be found by the water. Desert: The scorching desert has resulted in a number of well-adapted dragon breeds. Forest: Plenty of dragons enjoy living in the moderate environment of the forest. Jungle: The hot, humid environment of jungles gives rise to quite a bit of diversity. Volcano: A number of heat-loving breeds thrive on the volcanic plains.
To take eggs from a specific biome, go to the cave entrance and choose which location you would like to search. Once you've chosen where to search, you will be brought to a page with up to three eggs. To take one, simply click on it—but be aware that other people are also hunting for eggs who may grab the egg before you have a chance to take it. Eggs are easiest to find on the hour (such as 4:00 or 5:00), but eggs can also be found at five minute intervals after the hour (4:00, 4:05, 4:10, etc).
Abandoned Eggs
Sometimes other users decide that they don't want to raise a particular egg or hatchling. The reasons are numerous, and those that decide to give their eggs and hatchlings will abandon them in a pile outside the cave. If you visit the cave when one or more eggs or hatchlings have been abandoned, you will see a message indicating this. If you click on the message, you will see all of the abandoned eggs and hatchlings. Click on one of these to pick it up. However, abandoned eggs and hatchlings may be near death, so it is important to check the timer below the egg or hatchling. The closer the number is to zero, the less time you will have to raise it.
Raising Eggs
Once you have an egg, you must take care of it to ensure that it doesn't die. Eggs are raised by "feeding" them views, unique views, and clicks. It is up to you to get views, unique views, and clicks for your egg. This is usually done by placing the egg's BBCode, obtained from the "Get Code" page, in your signature on a message board. If you don't have enough room in your signature, enabling the "Display TinyURL Codes" option on the Account Settings page will give you a shorter alternative. However, it is important not to go around posting your egg in random topics. You don't want to get banned from other sites, after all. Simply place the egg in your signature and, if you're an active member of the community, your egg will get the attention it needs.
Egg/Hatchling Sickness
Eggs and hatchlings can become sick when they receive too many views, unique views, and clicks in a short period of time. Although sickness can occur at any time, eggs are most vulnerable when first laid. If an egg or hatchling continues to receive too many views, unique views, and clicks while sick, it may die. To "cure" an egg or hatchling of sickness, simply reduce the rate at which it is receiving views, unique views, and clicks. This may be as simple as removing the egg or hatchling from any sites you have posted it on. Since the hide action prevents eggs and hatchlings from receiving views, unique views, and clicks, it can be a useful tool at combating sickness.
Egg Limits
Users are limited in how many eggs and growing creatures they can take care of at any one time. There are two different kinds of limit. The first is a limit on the number of eggs you can have at any one time. If you have too many eggs, you will be unable to grab more, and any new eggs your dragons breed will be abandoned automatically. The second restriction is on the total number of growing creatures (eggs plus unfrozen hatchlings) you have. If you are at this limit, you will be unable to grab eggs and hatchlings. It is important to note that dead eggs and hatchlings will still count toward any limits for up to 24 hours following their death.
These limits increase as you gain more dragons, and are as follows:
Trophy
Required Dragons Egg Limit Total Limit None
0 4 12 Bronze
50 5 15 Silver
200 6 18 Gold
500 7 21
Ecology The world of Dragon Cave is governed by some of the same ecological laws that apply to our world. If there are too many dragons of a specific breed, then competition for resources will be fierce, and dragons of that breed will be less likely to produce offspring. On the other hand, if a breed is underpopulated, then their population will grow rapidly without natural checks and balances. These breeds will be more successful at producing offspring. What does this mean for you? Well, this natural behavior is something you will need to keep in mind when hunting for eggs and trying to have your dragons breed. If you're trying to find an egg from an overpopulated breed, your search will be more difficult than when trying to find eggs of a less plentiful breed.

Actions and What They Do
Abandon- Can be performed on: Eggs, unnamed hatchlings Abandoning an egg or hatchling will cause it to be sent to the abandoned area, where others can pick it up. This action is not always successful; hatchlings may choose not to stay by the cave and may follow you back.
Breed- Can be performed on: Most breeds of adults Usage Limitations: Can be used once per week per pair of dragons. Breeding allows you to obtain more eggs. When you breed a dragon, you will be presented with a list of eligable dragons of the opposite gender. Upon choosing a partner, you will be presented with the results of the breeding attempt. Breeding can produce up to four eggs, but you are only allowed to keep one from each batch. The other eggs that you decide not to keep will be abandoned automatically.
Describe- Can be performed on: Frozen hatchlings, adults. This action enables you to customize your dragons with a personal description. Descriptions must adhere to the description guidelines and must be approved by a site moderator before they can be seen by others. If your dragon's description is approved, it will appear at the bottom of its info page.
Freeze- Can be performed on: Unfrozen hatchlings. Usage Limitations: Can be performed 10 times per 2 weeks. The Freeze action allows you to prevent a hatchling from becoming an adult. A frozen hatchling will cease to accumulate views, unique views, and clicks.
Hide- Can be performed on: Eggs, unfrozen hatchlings. Hiding an egg or hatchling will prevent others from viewing it and thus prevent it from accumulating views, unique views, and clicks. The only action available to hidden eggs and hatchlings is "unhide." Eggs and hatchlings may still die while hidden.
Kill- Can be performed on: Living eggs, hatchlings, and adults. Usage Limitations: Can be performed 5 times every few weeks. Killing an egg, hatchling, or adult will cause it to die and eventually be removed from your scroll. This action is not always successful and hatchlings or adults may resist your attempts to kill them.
Name- Can be performed on: Hatchlings, adults. Naming a hatchling or dragon is one of the ways through which you can personalize your dragons. Each name is unique; no two dragons can have the same name. Once named, a dragon's name can be changed or removed.
Release- Can be performed on: Frozen hatchlings, adults. Releasing a hatchling or dragon removes it from your scroll without killing it. Dragons that have been released have no owner and cannot be picked up by another user.
Revive- Can be performed on: Dead hatchlings, dead adults. Usage Limitations: Can be performed once per dragon. The revive action has a small chance of bringing a dead dragon back to life. If it fails, then the dragon is permanently dead.

Dragon Cave Dictionary
Clicks- Clicks are one of the stats that must be accumulated in order to raise an egg to adulthood. A dragon receives a click when someone clicks its image on a page and is taken to its stat page. Clicks are helpful but not necessary for an egg to reach adulthood, only views and unique views.
Frozen- A hatchling that is "frozen" will not become an adult. Hatchlings will not continue receive views, unique views, and clicks after they have been frozen. Hatchlings can be frozen due to the Freeze Action.
Trade- A trade, unlike a transfer, is two-sided. A trade may be created by using the teleport action. After creating a trade, other users may make offers on your trade. If you accept an offer, the eggs/hatchlings are swapped.
Transfer- A transfer allows you to move a single egg or hatchling between users. Transfers are one-sided; you will not receive anything in return. Transfers can be created with the "teleport" action that is available to specific breeds of dragon. Upon using the teleport action, you are given a "claim link" that may be shared with other users and allow them to accept the egg/hatchling.
Unique Views- Unique Views are one of the stats that must be accumulated in order to raise an egg to adulthood. A dragon receives a unique view the first time a person visits a page containing the dragon's image, and only the first time.
Views- Views are one of the stats that must be accumulated in order to raise an egg to adulthood. A dragon's view counter is incremented any time they visit a page containing the dragon's image, even if they've already seen that dragon.
What is TJ Saying?
What is TJ saying in those cryptic messages in the Forum which sometime appear before the release of special eggs? The answer would be Saurian
Saurian is a cipher language created for the video game Star Fox Adventures. In this game, the residents of a planet known only as "Dinosaur Planet" were in distress. The natives of the planet (several dinosaur tribes and one mammoth tribe) speak a language that was initially known as "Dino Language." In later games, the planet was called "Sauria", and thus, their language (unofficially) became known as "Saurian." One of the more interesting things about this cipher language was the voice actors spoke it directly in Star Fox Adventures, as seen in this video.

Coding Your Dragons For Posting and For Signatures
Posting your eggs and hatchlings in the incubator is pretty easy, but there are a couple things that can be confused so here is a step by step again so nothing is confused.
Step 1- After logging in to your Dragon Cave account click on the tab that says "Account". Step 2- On this page you will want to click on "Get HTML/BBCode", it is the first option on the right. Step 3- For the clickable link that we need copy the "BBCode" for each egg or hatchling you want. Step 4- In the incubator itself there are several things you can do. -You can just post the code once and just show the egg/hatchling you want. This is not what we need though it can be used with what we do. -You can also post just the code. This is what we need. Step 5- Posting the code takes a little more work. There are two ways to do this. -You can type [ code] [ /code] around your eggs/hatchlings, without the spaces. -You can also paste your codes, then select them all and click on the "Code" option that Gaia provides. Step 6- Post and your done!
