"Flags" so as to not call them "Banners" which is something everyone already calls the current graphics we use for signature advertisement / Guild list identification.
One of the ideas behind clans is, disregard the better idea of just being in a fun active one just for a moment, is being in the
BEST ONE. One that everyone knows! Guilds exist on MMO's to prove that your group is better than the next, and let's not be naive, clan wars did happen on zOMG! Yes, even without anything to fight over or any way to prove yourself with. I mean, I don't even need to try hard,
here's the example ALL OF YOU are thinking.
Here's
another example of a group of people who are most likely
known to be "the best".
And I could list a
bunch of
others that are
quite popular
for completely different reasons.
Like it or not, clan recognition
EXISTS!
Even Guild recognition! It just doesn't exist
in-game. These clans get known because the people in them were incredibly active on the forums, on the dev meats or at least very annoying with invite spam.
Checking random people in-game they'll have the most random assortments of clans you can think of, which means everyone is pretty much keeping to their own.
I was thinking... Why not? Clans have pretty much no functionality to begin with, they would thank anything they can get! Why not start with something small? There's one thing a lot of MMO's do to make want to have a guild/clan/whatever by simply being in-game.
Look at this
picture . Notice how above every player's head there's two things: Their username and a very small picture.
Their guild's flag.I wouldn't ask to add a Clan Flag to everyone's username on the main screen,
that would be considered clutter fast. Even that example game didn't do it, those are only visible in the lobby. But maybe on the target/crew pane? Why not? A 16x16 picture can say a lot if you're creative enough. A clan can set to one of those to appear in-game to the left of every member's names on the target and crew pane, and it would still be small enough to not bother anyone not caring about this, while telling people who play for long enough who are the big boys who ARE active in-game and who they could trust to get the biggest crowd with.
Like I said, this isn't a priority. It would just be
something going for clans! I'd say they're desperate
xp .
As well as something extra to show if leaderboards were ever made for the game or something later on.
