Elton had been a bit surprised when an owl had arrived that morning during breakfast with a letter for him. He never got any mail, and he was rather worried when he noticed it was his grandmother's elderly owl Eldric that had brought it. He tried to ignore the looks that the other students gave him as he struggled to get the letter off of Eldric's ankle.

Once he had accomplished that he fed the old owl bits of smoked salmon from his plate before he finally uncurled the letter to read it. He nearly spat up his breakfast when he read the slightly shaky handwriting of his Grandmother.

To my Grandson, Elton Tristan Bligh,
It has come to my attention that in the past month that you have been enrolled in Hogwarts that you have been failing all of your classes. This is unacceptable and if you do not follow my directions to the letter I will have you pulled from the school and enrolled under the more watchful eye.
This afternoon after classes and before dinner you will report to the library and ask for a private table in the back, a tutor will arrive and you will do as he tells you. Do not, and I mean do not try and get out of it. If you do..you will not like the consequences that you will be faced with.

Really..don't miss it. I do love you, try and apply yourself to your studies more Elton dear.
With love, Grandmother

Elton wasn't pleased at all, but knew better than to try and go against her wishes. The rest of the morning and all through his classes he looked forward to his time with the tutor with much foreboding. He knew that there was no way of getting out of it, and that he would have to do as his grandmother demanded. He had a feeling that his parents didn't know just yet how he was doing in his classes and that if they did know they would have done something much worse than his grandmother. Though..he wasn't as afraid of them as he was of her.

Finally at about four pm, with much trepidation and a scowl on his face, Elton reported to the library and asked for the back table in the room. The librarian eyed him for a moment and then escorted him back. "Your tutor should be here shortly." She said sniffing and then left him at the table.

"Great, does everyone in this school know I need a tutor?" He demanded angrily as he let his head fall to the table with a loud thud. "My life is over." He moaned.

Shortly was no understatement. Lysander arrived the moment the librarian arrived back at her desk, a variety of books tucked into his bag. He stopped in front of the desk, feet perfectly perpendicular to the mahogany structure. Lysander met her scrutinizing gaze with his own, before she pointed him to the back, where a dark haired mound rested on a table. He nodded his head once, pushed a dark lock of hair behind his ear, before turning and heading back there himself. His well polished shoes made nary a noise as he moved across the wooden floor with a well taught grace.

He stops walking and stands directly behind the lump of a boy, observing him from behind. He seemed to fit the bill, or rather, the letter.

Lysander, always having private questions about the lectures and always eager to hear the answers to other students requests, tends to stay late after each of his classes end. Usually, he is the last to leave, even among his Ravenclaw brethren. Oftentimes, even during class, he could be spotted attempting to help his other school mates with their lessons, whether the student asks for help or not. It is clear to the professors that he would make a good tutor, and has offered to help other students before, sometimes demanding the professor to let him tutor a student who has fallen behind. However, the only way his wish would be granted was if the student wanted tutoring. A flaw in his otherwise brilliant plan, for the professor will not demand a student to take up tutoring because they were a day behind in one class.

It was no wonder he was chosen to help a struggling student get back up to speed when the time finally arrived that a student was in need of help. His name was given to a woman, who in turn propositioned him for help for her grandson. A Gryffindor boy called Elton Bligh.

Lysander wrinkled his nose a bit. He hoped the boy was ready to learn. Calmly, Lysander pulled out a chair to the left of Elton and sat himself in the seat, placing his bag gently on the table in one long, fluid movement. "Now," he said smoothly, pulling out a roll of parchment, an inkwell, and a long brown quill. "What exactly is it that you need help with?"

Elton turned his head slightly to stare at the new comer and wrinkled his nose slightly. Ah, a ravenclaw, of course. Of course it would be one of those smart ones that was going to tutor him. He sighed slightly and then pulled himself upright to stare at the other boy closely before answering.

He was a bit surprised that the other boy had such long hair; though he couldn't really comment on it. His hair was getting a bit shaggy looking as well. He really should find someone to give his hair a trim. Besides the hair, the other boy seemed to prefer to dress perfectly with nothing out of place or ruffled in the slightest bit. Elton figured the other to be something of a perfectionist..or just a bit OCD.

It seemed strange to Elton that the other hadn't introduced himself, especially since it was more than likely that they would be seeing a lot of each other. So he offered his hand and said,"First things first, I'm Elton, what's your name?" He asked flashing a bright smile at the other boy.

The corner of Lysander's lip twitched a bit as he waited for his pupil to look him over. While it wasn't something he felt comfortable doing himself, finding staring at someone without speaking a bit rude, provided they knew you were doing it, he didn't feel the need to point it out. After all, if he were going to be taught something, especially by another student, he would want to make sure they were up to his standards. Still, he would have done so in a manor they won't have noticed, or at least he would have tried.

He watched the boy speak, and his mouth lost the bit of grin it had been fighting to gain. Did he not already know? "My apologies, I had assumed your grandmother had mentioned me." After all, he had been told Elton's name. Despite this, Lysander turned fully towards the boy and grasped his hand firmly with his own, giving it two small, swift shakes, before releasing his grip. "Lysander Hawkins, at your service."

Elton had noticed the other was wearing an eye-patch and he wondered how the kid had lost his eye, but knew outright asking would be rude. And..staring at it wasn't a good idea. That would probably just get this new kid on his case even worse.

He seemed like a nice enough kid, though the way he spoke made him sound a bit like a stuffed shirt. He was a bit annoyed that his grandmother hadn't thought to tell him the other kids' name. She must have been pretty ticked off to not think to include it. He was rather grateful that she hadn't sent him a Howler.

"Maybe she was too busy or it slipped her mind." he replied and shook the other's hand. "Nice to meet you Lysander."

He reluctantly pulled his book bag up and pulled out his History of Magic book out along with several others. "In answer to your earlier question, I need help with everything." He said in a rather bummed tone. "I guess I just don't pay enough attention, and I find I have to read things ten times over before I can make sense of them."

Lysander nodded slightly in agreement, knowing that there were a number of reasons as to why his name was never mentioned. He watched the boy take out A History of Magic, the first year's book on the History of Magic. It was an aptly named book. Listening to every word said, Lysander reached into his bag on the table and found his copy of the same book, though it was thicker and well worn since he had gotten it used. He placed the book to the side along with his notes on the subject.

"Perhaps it isn't that you don't pay attention, but that you learn differently? More hands on, maybe? It could explain why you are not doing perfectly in classes like Astronomy, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration, as they require a lot of learning from words." Lysander pushed his bag across the table, leaving the strap within reach, but the bag itself out of the way of his papers. "Those classes consist mainly of lectures and learning from the book, with little hands on learning going on." Lysander shot out a quick grin. "No matter how long it seems like it takes to turn a matchstick into a needle." He turned slightly and held out his hands. "Here, let me see your History of Magic notes, we can start with that."

Elton was actually relieved to hear that there could be a reason why he wasn't doing well in class. It was true, if they made those classes more interactive he'd probably have done much better. It seemed as though every lecture class he was often falling asleep, day dreaming, fidgeting, peering out the window or doodling all over his papers.

"Well..it's probably both," he admitted feeling his cheeks go hot. "I just can't concentrate as well as other people. I find I do much better after I've gotten to run around during breaks. Otherwise I can hardly sit still."

Elton's eyebrows rose and he frowned. "But Potions is interactive..though I keep blowing things up. Maybe I'm just not taking notes right."

Elton sheepishly smiled back at Lysander and pulled out his notes on that class and smoothed them out to get out the wrinkles. "Don't mind the doodles." He said feeling his face heat.

His History of Magic notes were filled with pictures of wizards casting spells, cannons and all manner of war machines. Elton really needed to keep his mind on class and not let it wander. Wizards didn't need tanks or battle ships like he had drawn. He was definitely mixing up the regular history he had learned in public school and the new stuff he was now learning. You'd think he'd be able to differentiate between them.
