He nearly flew up the stairs when the teacher called it out and stood there pulsating with excitement as the hat was lowered to his brow. How exactly was this going to work? Did the hat talk to him or ask questions? Or did it just make a decision for him and send him off to spend the next seven years in a House that he didn't want?
"Well well..you make the decision..didn't anyone tell you that?" A reedy voice said to him.

Elton was stunned silent for a moment then whispered to the voice. "A-Are you the hat?"

"Why yes I am. I see bravery and courage..I'd think you'd do well in Griffindor, but if you'd rather a different House feel free to pick." the hat told him.

Elton thought it over. From what he had been told Griffindor seemed to be full of jocks..while the other Houses were more specified towards other types. If anything..he'd probably fit in best there. He rather hated studying or sitting still for long periods. "No, I'll take Griffindor please." he whispered.

GRIFFINDOR! roared the hat, and the table under the lion banner erupted in cheering and clapping. Elton beamed and ran down the steps to the table and slipped in an empty spot closest to the stage. He was happy and overjoyed that he had been so joyously accepted already. Now he would just have to start by making some friends.

He glanced around the table and was a bit surprised to find himself sitting next to several girls. Great..of all the areas he had to choose this one. he tried not to appear nervous despite the fact that he was already sweating bullets because of being so near them. Why couldn't he have paid better attention and sat somewhere near boys? he sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.

That's when he discovered the food on the table, well he could start with some food. Elton leaned forward and speared a sausage some toast and an apple and began munching away. He took a sip from the cup in front of him and was surprised to find it tasted slightly nutty but good.
"Uh, do you know what this is?" he asked a red head girl next to him.

Arona smiled "Oh it's Pumpkin Juice Popular here at the school." she said to the first year "Welcome to Gryffindor" she said then went back to watching the sorting

Clover sat with the other Hufflepuffs and watched sorting. She was shocked that the hat's song was different then the year before but she was told that's normal. She cheered with the other Hufflepuffs when a student got sorted into their house.

It wasn't until the M started that a name actually stuck out at her "McQuen, Emma" she heard the teacher say. Clover eyes opened and she looked over It was Emma. Emma was here? "Come on say Hufflepuff" she said biting her lip wanting Emma to be in her house.

Emma watched as student after student where sorted into their dorm houses. It was quite odd to say the least a talking hat. She finally heard her name and walked up and sat down on the stool.

"Well now a kindred soul, and not a bad mind eather... Well now this a bit more difficult. You could do well in any house." the hat said to her. She could barely see anything around her as it almost completely covered her face. "I see you saw a hard ship and the loss of a loved one. And yet you push forword.

"GRYFFINDOR"
the hat bellowed and was pulled from her head. She went to the chearing table of Gryffindors and sat down next to the boy with dreadlocks. "Your name was Elton right?" she asked when sat next to him.

"Pumpkin Juice? Huh, who would have guessed." Elton exclaimed as he sipped away at it. It tasted better than anything he had ever had before. He was definitely going to be enjoying a glass of it every morning. "Thank you, I'm glad to be in Griffindor." he replied with a small smile and was grateful when she turned away to watch the sorting.

He sipped away at the juice, trying to make it last as long as he could and listened to the sorting. When someone got sorted into Griffindor, he'd put his cup down and clap and cheer with the others. He was a bit surprised when the small blond girl came over and sat down next to him and talked to him.

Elton smiled a bit nervously and twisted his fingers together under the table, and replied in a small voice. "Yes, Elton T. Bligh. You're Emma?" He asked vaguely remembering the teacher yelling out that name last.
Gods he hoped he had remembered right..it would suck if he had gotten it wrong.

Why were all these girls crowding around him? Did he have something stuck to his back saying, "Come sit next to me?" he frowned at that thought and tried to feel his back to make sure he was wrong. he couldn't quite reach..but he didn't feel as though there was anything there. He found himself squirming in his seat. When was this ceremony supposed to get done? He was already itching to do something active and it hadn't really been that long at all.

Arona nodded though she wasn't fully paying attion to the boy as they continued to sort the rest of the students.

Emma nodded "Yeah that's me." she said with a smile. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Got an itch on your back or something?" she asked looking at his back.

She looked around the table it was so long "I wasn't exspecting there to be this many students here." she said in a mazment then saw the empty plates suddnly get filled with food. "Oh wow, that's is amzing." she exsclamed wide eyed. She then felt a hug from behind.

Clover was bumbed that Emma wasn't in her house but still had to go over and give her a hug. So once the sorting was done and the food appeared she quickly ran over to the Gryffindor table "EMMA when did you discover magic?" she asked not carring "We'll have to talk later I got to get back my House table." she said running back to her table.

Emma looked bewilderd and hadn't had the chance to say something when Clover came and then ran back over to her own table. "Wait.... Clover's here?" she asked looking back over at the Red and Green hair that was her best friend growing up.

Elton relaxed a bit, glad that he had gotten the blonde's name right and smiled shyly back at her. He squirmed a bit when she mentioned his back, and frowned slightly.
"Uh..well I thought there was something crawling up my back, am i wrong? Is there nothing there?" he asked turning slightly to offer her a better view of his back.

"Yeah..there are hundreds of them." He said following her gaze down the table at the sea of Griffindors around them. He glanced over at the table over from theirs to see if were just as many and missed the magic filling the empty plates. "Oh hey, more food!" he exclaimed discovering his plate filled with more luscious food. "This is my kind of place." He said happily and began to devour what was on it.

He nearly had a heart attack when another girl appeared out of nowhere and nearly tackled Emma with a hug. "Omg, where the heck did she come from?" he exclaimed holding his chest, a look of fright on his face.
"Clover? Is that her name? For a moment I thought she was a ghost coming out of nowhere like that." He commented shuddering slightly.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 10, 2011 6:38 pm

Emma shook her head "Naw. There's nothing on your back" she said with a smile as she grabed things that where familiar to her and even a few that weren't.

She contued to smile "Yeah Clover and I grew up together. But I didn't know this was the school she went to last year. She told me she was at fancy bording school on a scolarship." she said feeling a little put out. "My Da works for her Grandparents on their farm. I guess that's why they haven't been bought out." she said wondering who else in Clover's family where members of the magic society.

Arona looked over. "I wasn't exspecting Clover to do that. She is quite good at making friends with the Slyterins though. One of her friends is Dorian." she pointed at the green haired boy over at the Slytherin table. "But she's no ghost, you can see thou a ghost. Each house has their own Ghost as well." she said eating a bit of corn.

Elton was glad to hear that it had only been a phantom sensation and that there was nothing on his back. He smiled gratefully at Emma and followed her example, grabbing some of the stranger looking foods to try. He was pleasantly surprised that despite their strange appearance and textures that he actually liked them.
"Thanks," he mumbled as he swallowed a big bite of some green fruit that tasted both sweet and sour.

He finished his fruit before he spoke again. "I bet she wanted to tell you but wasn't allowed. Seems like that's how things go in the Magicking world. I just learned about it a few months ago myself. " He told her with a small shrug of his shoulders.

Elton was a bit surprised to hear that every House had it's own ghost. He hadn't heard of that! It seemed like every moment he was learning something new about the magicking world that made it even more exciting! "Oh really? What Ghost does Griffindor have?" He asked the red head girl, leaning over to peer at her eagerly.

Emma nodded "No prob." she said really enjoying the food and wondered what diffrent combations would make.

She looked over at him "You too huh? I also just founded out about being adopted too." she said sighing tho she she didn't feel like it mattered her father loved her and her mother did before she died but it did make her wonder why she was put up for adoption and even more about this amazing magical world.

Emma was also eager to hear about the ghost never having seen them herself.

Arona chuckled "Oh wow, you two are just learning about magic huh? So I guess the roof is even amazing to you guys. Then again it's the only one like it for quite a distance. And our ghost is Sir Nickolas, aka Nearly-Headless-Nick. Hufflepuffe's is the Fat Friar, Syltherin's is The Bloody Barron and Ravinclaw's is the Gray Lady," she informed the two of them, "You also want to look out for Peeves he's quite a pain, and oh The History of Magic teacher, Professor Binns is a ghost and the girls Laboratory on the third floor has Moaning Myertle in it." she thought aloud "There are a few others who escape me at the moment."

Elton still felt rather shy being surrounded by girls, but was glad that he was actually conversing with them without being tongue tied. Normally he could barely say anything and was flustered and red faced. Perhaps he was finally growing out of it.

He was rather surprised to hear that Emma was adopted and that she knew he was. "How did you know I was adopted? Do other kids find out much earlier?" He asked curiously. "I grew up in a orphanage run by witches though, so I caught them doing magic sometimes."

Elton stiffened slightly when Arona laughed, then relaxed as she began to explain things. At first he thought she was laughing at him and then realized it was more so she was surprised about their not knowing. "That's really cool! I'll have to look out for them then! I bet they're fun to talk to!" He said smiling widely.

"Peeves? Sounds like he'd be a pain." He said with a laugh and finished off his pumpkin juice. "Well thanks, I'll definitely have to go exploring and chat with them when I can find them! I bet they're loads of fun to talk to!"

Emma shook her head "I didn't my Da just told me I was adopted after we read my letter... but I was adopted as an infant by Ma and Da. So I don't what my original parents where." she said looking at him with a smile she then went to pick up her cup but missed and spilled the little bit left in it. "Oh man.... that's not what I wanted to do on my first day." she said disponted in herself.

Arona nodded "He is, the worst part is that it's hard to get back at him. And it's unfortunate that Professor Binns is the worst one there is as far as the Professor's go. He makes watching paint more existing." she said yawing just thinking about History of Magic class.

Elton felt a bit sheepish, but was glad to know he wasn't the only one adopted. "Ah okay, I guess I misunderstood. Well you know at least one of them had magic, right?" he asked. "Or somewhere in their family they had someone with magic." He added remembering more about how magic ran in families.

"Ack, that's no fun." Elton exclaimed with a wince at the stain on her clothes. "Just get some lemon juice on it, my mom swears by it in getting out stains." he suggested.

Elton groaned at hearing about a boring professor and then sighed. He had forgotten that most of the classes this first year were the boring lecture ones. He'd have to figure out a way to cope through them. "Ah, well thanks for warning me about both of them. Is Professor Binns the teacher for all the years?" he asked, hoping that the professor Arona was complaining about only taught second years.

Emma smiled "It's alright. I don't know. I guess one of my birth parents might of been. I know that Ma and Da both weren't though. Or Ma wouldn't have suffered the way she did." She said sopping up the juice with a napckin.

She chuckled "It's alright It happens to me all the time. I even trip over my own two feet a lot. And don't worry I have had my fare share of stanes to get out." she admitted "Just glad I didn't trip infront of the whole school." she added releaved.

Arona sighed "I only wish History of Magic was a one year class." she said drily and and picked up her cup to drink it.

Elton was a bit surprised that Emma had grown up not knowing a thing about the magical world. He supposed that could have happened to him as well if things had gone differently. He frowned slightly when she mentioned how her mother had suffered. He shifted in his seat, suddenly feeling really uncomfortable.

"Well maybe one day you'll find out about them." he said, deciding to not mention anything about it. He really didn't want to make her cry or anything. Crying girls always made him nervous and scared.

He brightened up a bit when she chuckled and began to wipe at the stain on her shirt. "Really? That must hurt. Yeah, that would have been really embarrassing!"

Elton barely heard what Arona said next, as there was a sudden shout from another table that nearly drowned out her words. Still he got the gist of it and frowned. "Wait..History of magic is more than one year? Dang it!" He groaned and slid his head to the table, banging it softly. "Why couldn't they tell us this BEFORE we get here?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 14, 2011 8:58 pm

Emma smiled "It's too late for Ma. Unless there's a spell to bring people back." she said some what sad looking at the pink ribbon around her wrist as she kept sopping up juice with another napkin

"You get use to it. Cooking seems to be the only time I'm not." she added with a small chuckle.

Arona smiled "The other classes make it worth it. Well besides Muggle Studies... One of the stupidest classes there is. Depending on who you are. Then again You can't take that class tell third year. But at least the other classes you do something. Turning something into something else. Levtating, Defensive spells.... and so on." she said

She glanced over at Emma "Though I know that there is not spell to bring people back from the dead. If your lucky she might be a ghost but they tend to have some reason to linger here." she said with a yawn. "Lost my birth mother myself when I was two. Don't remember her much so not much to compare." she said with a shrug not really caring what had happened to just been said.

Elton was sad to hear that Emma had lost her mother..and was a bit uncomfortable. He wish he knew what to say. "Oh, well I'm sorry to hear that." He murmured quietly his eyes darting between hers and the table. Hie caught her gaze at her wrist and he wrinkled his brow slightly as he looked at the pink ribbon.

What was with the ribbon? For a moment he drew a blank and was about to ask when he recalled that people often wore pink in memory of a loved one who died to cancer. He let loose a small breath in relief that he hadn't inquired about it. That might have just made her cry. Crying girls always made him uncomfortable.

He brightened a bit when she mentioned cooking. "That's rather funny," he said with a laugh. "Seems like some of the most graceful people are horrible in the kitchen and really accident prone. Like my dad. He never fails to burn food. Or water. "

Elton caught Arona's smile and leaned a bit closer to catch her words. It seemed as though the crowd around them was growing louder and louder and making it hard for him to hear.
"Well I hope so! Though..classes really aren't what I'm good at." Elton replied with a shrug. "Though any class that can get me outdoors is a good one."

Elton's stomach growled a bit, making him reach for a blue berry muffin, and some more of the pumpkin juice. It really did seem as though he had a bottomless pit for a stomach. He could never eat enough to keep it filled.
"Would you pass me down some of that bacon?" He asked Arona pointing to the platter of crispy bacon sitting in front of her.
