~Character Data~

Name: Darcello
Country: Corneria
Race: Moogle
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Soul Sphere: Apprentice (Green Mage, stage II)
Magicite: Cure series (Stage I), Thunder series (Stage I)

~Appearance~

Height: 5’3”
Weight: 130 lb.
Hair: Bronze
Eyes: Bronze
Physical Description: Though Darcello is, in fact, a moogle, he inherited much of his appearance from his human mother. He’s a giant among moogles, though for a human he is still noticeably below average. His pale, hairless skin is stretched taut over an average, unremarkable frame—unremarkable, of course, except for his moogle attributes. He has a large pair of violet, bat-like wings that can allow for brief bursts of flight, seldom longer than a few seconds and only then with the maneuverability and grace of a chicken. If he strains himself, he can hover or use his wings to reduce the speed from a fall, but this takes far more effort than he would like and fatigues him quickly. His face is thin and somewhat flat, most of his features appearing shallow in profile. His high cheek bones, sharp chin, and severe brow combine into a perpetual expression of disdain; however, wrinkles from harder times have since softened his face slightly and left behind worry-lines. His eyes have an oriental upturn, and their neutral state is narrowed and sharp. His hair is fairly short but long enough to cover his ears in straight, mousy strands; however, the color is bright with a healthy, semi-metallic shine. Atop his head is a typical moogle pom-pom, bright red and a bit larger than his fist.
Clothing: What Darcello wears depends on the occasion and the company he keeps. Most of the time, he wears a thick cloak with a hood that completely hides both his pom-pom and wings. The hood itself casts a shadow over his eyes but is tied down securely enough at the neck to prevent it from flying open accidentally or from it being lifted without his consent. He has several of these cloaks, typically austere and in a muted, solid color; however, they are all soft, billowy, and of decent quality. He has one or two cloaks of superior quality with intricate patterns embroidered in silver thread and plenty of gems (he prefers not to touch gold). He will wear these even under robes and other over-garments, even if it gets a bit warm. Beneath the cloak, he wears simple garments—usually a tunic, vest, trousers, belt, and mid-calf boots. He may change these, as well, depending on the occasion. When he is surrounded by mostly moogles, or when he is very comfortable with the company he keeps, he will shed this cloak and walk about with his pom-pom and wings exposed. When this happens, his wardrobe becomes mostly white and silver, though he will wear other colors. This clothing is typically costlier with a scholarly appearance, complementing whatever mage robes he is wearing. Instances such as these are rare, since he’s distrustful of others.
Background: Darcello is the youngest of three sons, born to a human mother and father. His father was a soldier, and his mother was a kind, decent woman who just got lonely from time to time. Her first two sons are his, but he was the result when his mother took in a traveling moogle mage. Her infidelity was apparent from the start, but his father was, if not accepting, at least tolerant. He was a little cold to Darcello but didn’t necessarily treat him any worse than his brothers. His mother, on the other hand, clung to the boy—especially during infancy, when his low birth weight was a grave concern. His brothers were huge compared to the little kid and they rough-housed from time to time, but they practiced caution. They were jovial and mischievous and often included the moogle in their capers. In the interest of survival amongst his peers, though, Darcello had to learn to become charming and crafty—and it certainly didn’t hurt that he began to manifest magic at that young an age. As they grew, it became apparent that Darcello just wouldn’t get very big, even though his brothers grew to become absolutely massive. He was just too small to become involved in the military like his brothers would, and his family couldn’t afford to send him to a magical academy on a soldier’s salary. So, to ensure the kid had some sort of future, he became the apprentice to an enchanter. He learned the trade and studied magic at the same time under the tutelage of Cornelius Dace, a rather powerful but unambitious black mage. Here, he began to develop empathic powers, granting him the ability to read the emotions of others and sometimes even thoughts. This, however, would prove to be more of a curse than a blessing. He couldn’t stand to be around others and could not enter a crowd without howling out in madness. Too many emotions and thoughts forced their way into his head without any filter or resistance. Each person he passed had their minds projected upon his. A few people at once he could stand, but too many flooded his mind and overloaded his senses. After seeing the boy suffer, Dace was stirred from his ennui and sought out a cure for what was once his star annoyance/pupil. The result was similar to a lobotomy: the voices were silenced at last, but the boy avoided social interaction and would be curt and entirely unsympathetic when forced into conversation. For a whole year he didn’t even speak. Oddly enough, he discovered religion and styled himself as a “prophet” of sorts. He could receive visions but not on command; rather, his focus was on the truth. He took a vow of truth—he would never deliberately tell a lie and would repent if he did accidentally—and the faintest hint of falsehood in another would send waves of intuitive repulsion throughout his body.
Personality: Darcello doesn’t care for or about others. He is painfully blunt and does not attempt to sympathize with others. He prefers to be alone, if he can help it; if he cannot be alone, he prefers the company of strong, friendly men and older women with strong motherly instincts. He cannot stand weaklings or young women. He speaks little, but his is usually the sobering voice of reason. He will deliberately point out the folly of a bad plan, idea, or statement, though he may be inclined to point out the personal shortcomings of the presenter in the process. For him, truth is the highest ideal. He believes that people should not lie or deceive if they can help it, and pretense is a sin. He won’t even smile unless he’s actually happy. He does realize that there are certain exceptions—for example, he does keep his race a secret whenever possible, since it is a great inconvenience when people try to touch his pom-pom or assume he knows how to synthesize random objects together or pester him repeatedly to “save their game”, whatever THAT means. Of course, his race is also his hidden shame, since it made his life so complicated growing up and he feels he never truly received his father’s love because of it. Of course, being a moogle, he is tempted to lapse into certain patterns. He suppresses it well, but there is always that impetus to add “kupo” to the end of each sentence. He will say it as a curse word when unexpectedly injured. He also begins to twitch and his libido rises when in the presence of a Kupo Nut. If he ever finds himself spinning around for whatever reason, he’ll get the urge to keep going. At these costs, he has great potential as a mage and desires to increase his abilities. He dreams someday of exploring the world, visiting centers of magical learning, ancient sites, religious landmarks, and nexuses of magical energy. He wants to make a pilgrimage one day, but until then he remains at his mentor’s enhancement workshop.
Other: He appreciates gifts of silver and gems, exotic spices, rare lumber and ivory, and anything with religious significance. He prefers exotic food and cultures to his own. He easily resists attempts by females to seduce him, though he does try to maintain an aura of mystery and gets a cheap thrill from being wooed. If anything, he prefers neither sex and desires to be alone; however, he just might find a large, strong male alluring if the man makes the first move…
