Soon after, the Cores began to spread, causing crystal forests to grow around them, as well as a massive Crystal Forest that grew across Russia, China, and the surrounding areas. These forests radiated even more of the poisonous Radiation, making them deadly to even be near.
But then the rumors of The Bastion started to come about. Bastion, a massive city that floated high above the earth, sitting on the clouds. It could not be touched by the Radiation or the growing Cores. People started heading to where it was rumored to be, and when they were near it, some force lifted them into the air and up to the city. Out of harms way. For now.
Then, the beasts of Earth began to mutate, not killed by the radiation. They became nightmare creatures, devouring plants, stone, other animals, and just about anything else they could find. The birds of course Mutated as well, and for some reason were drawn to the Bastion, constantly attacking it. The Humans thought it was their end, the Bastion couldn't save them.
Then a massive explosion rocked the world.
One of the Cores had shattered and exploded, sending billions of it's pieces across the world. Many landed on the Bastion like a spring rain. The people for sure thought it their end, until they found that the Shards did not emit the Radiation. Instead, when near a shard or holding on, the people became empowered, gaining fantastic abilities.
This moment sparked an advancement in the people that would forever change mankind.
Fast Forward 10 years. 2021. The Bastion has grown greatly, now able to slowly soar about the world. It's people, the Humans, now known as the Sentient Nomads, command the city, working to pick up as many of the Survivors on the ground as they can.
The Bastion's guards, The Sky Guard, as they are often called, are a group of men and women whose duty it is to protect the Bastion and it's people from anything that tries to attack them.
The Sky Guard fly about the city on their Gliders, powered by Shards of the Core. (Think of them as open cockpit planes with no real engine).
As well, the people have made many fantastic advancements in technology. No longer do they use Electricity or Oil as a main source of energy, instead they use the powers of the Shards to energize the Bastion. As well, they have developed powerful new weapons. The guns of the old age are gone, instead replaced by mechanical-like blades, whose edges are energized with a small piece of the shard, causing them to be able to slice through stone with ease. (the blades come in any shape or form, from simple sword to Scythe, to Discs, Lances, and so on)
