But there is one thing, the sword would really only break if it was his by a sword with a better quality of metal or if it his something stronger than what it is made out of. But back to the original topic >_>.
LOTR is awsome just long o_o
Not entirely true.
The quality of the steel matters, but also the forging method. Over time, every blade will develop weakpoints from use... not to mention the fact that Tezrian's blade was probably still enchanted with the holy aura that once would've enhanced his entire body as an Angel.
Also note the impact. Midswing, most of the power is out at the tip. Tezrian strikes the flat of Sedit's blade about halfway through the arc of the swing. Hitting his blade with the tip the force translation is going to be imbalanced, biased toward Tezrian. As such he already has a greater chance of damaging Sedit's blade.
The situation is actually quite sensible, if you can remove your sense from the limited aspects of reality you care to observe and take note of the fact that these two swords exist in a world much different from the one you percieve.
All in all...
IT'S A COMIC, PEOPLE. IT'S NOT REALLY HAPPENING.
I imagine our beloved author does try to keep his characters within the realm of physics, but still. Breaking the 'good guy's' sword is just a perfect dramatic device. Gives him a reason to be really really pissed off, besides the whole betrayal aspect.
