Name: Alain
Age: 16 Turns 17 now (29 Feb)
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Craft/Rank: Wherhandler Apprentice, Weyrbrat Blue Rider
History: Born to wherhandlers, his mother from a Hold and his father was about to start his trip to the Weyr. His mother was surprised that she was with child from that night and traveled to Benden Weyr before giving birth. Alain was born late at night and caused a lot of grief, but made up for it as he grew. Well, he just changed the grief from one of a whiney child to a jokester, except when he was with his mother and her wher.
Alain was taught how to handle a wher from an early age, but was never allowed to be alone with his mother’s wher. Alain took to it, but didn't feel right learning the way he was. He wanted to be taught like everyone else was, through the proper training. With this in mind, he was sent to become an apprentice under the proper guidance of Benden’s Masters. Since he learned a lot from his mother, some of the lessons were boring and he would start making jokes or telling the instructor that it didn't work that way all the time, like they claimed it did. More often than not, Alain found himself with some long chores on beautiful days.
Alain made friends with Tsubari and started to look up to him even more, when Tsubari got a wher egg. Granted Alain doesn’t want to become a handler, he won’t look down on the possibility either. He isn't that close to Tsubari, but was kindly taken under the young handler’s wing in how to be a proper Candidate type. Between training as a handler and learning the ways of being a rider, Alain has very little free time anymore. He was surprised when asked if he would be in the Sands for the current clutch. Without hesitation he said yes. When the dragons are around, and he has free time or is outdoors, his gaze will stay with them until they go between. He wants to be a rider more than a wherhandler.
Description: He is of average height, somewhere around 5'4, with a muscular built. The years of working with his mother and her wher helped build the muscles. His hair is short, spiky and brown. Hazel eyes sit in the middle of his face with a crooked nose below them. He likes to wear sturdy clothes due to his love of climbing and also when he is around the whers. He has a scar on his knee from scrapping it while climbing.
Personality: A wise-a**, Alain will try to be the prankster of group. He likes to make people laugh, even at his own expense, which is normally how it would happen. He doesn't mind making jokes about his father, but will fight with others who do. He believes the say ‘Blood is thicker than water’ and will defend his blood. Which is how he got a crooked nose, got into a fight and it was broken without him getting it fixed in time.
Growing up in the weyr, he follows the belief on the Atypicals. They are not fully worth the time or effort to help. Only the strong survive and if you have to help a dragon hatch, they aren’t strong enough to survive. He works fast and efficiently, making sure everything is done the way it should be and everything is where it should. He doesn’t like to have a clutter of stuff laying around, unless it’s for his pranks.
In groups he likes to be the center of attention. It doesn’t matter if he gets in trouble to get attention, Alain will do it. It might be part of being an only child, and not getting a lot of attention from his parents. It is hard to say, considering that he would get it from the jokes/pranks he pulled. He respects those that punish him, because he knows they did it for the right reason. He knows that he does some things that could have waited, but wants to know how far he can push the limit.
He takes in all kinds of criticism with a smile, but once alone he grumbles and complains. Granted nobody is around, so it doesn’t do any good, but it gets it off his chest. After that he will think it through and try to see about improving his ways.
He loves to climb. Heights don't bother him, but he is afraid of large bodies of water. The lakes that the dragons bath in don't bother him for the most part. He gets sick thinking about riding on a boat/ship and would much rather walk than be on a boat. Sometimes when he climbs, he starts to draw on the rocks or trees, sometimes even on his self.
He holds grudges for a long time sometimes just to be a brat, but you can tell when that is. His body language gives away when it's to be a brat or not. For the people that he holds grudges for, his pranks get a bit more out of hand. No permanent damage done to person or property, but he starts losing respect from them and for them if they can’t handle it.
He doesn’t think of the full consequences when he acts. A feline was near an area that he climbed a lot, without a thought about what might happen he started throwing things at it to scare it off. Thankfully it couldn’t get to him, that time.
Other: He won’t pick on girls. He respects them because of what his mother went, and still going, through with him. He doesn't do so well in complete silence, there always has to be some kind of noise for him, even if it's just tapping his fingers on the table.

The Touching:
The next egg that Kanen approached was the Bursting Shard egg. As with the Considered Investigator egg, the brunette at first felt nothing inside. Even as he lingered, there was still nothing. Just as he was seriously beginning to worry that this one was a dud he felt a spike of amusement come from the dragonet inside, and he let out a small sigh of relief. Tricks have their place, but don’t make people fear your mortality, ok? he remarked to the egg, lightly reprimanding in his thoughts. It was good to know that the dragonet was actually alright though.
Mya: The Bursting Shard Egg was one of the first she approached but she lingered or a moment longer then she meant to at first touch. It was warm- But there....was it a void? Was this an empty shell? Or- The bright burst of warmth from within turned the concerned frown into a bright smile. She chuckled and gave the shell an affectionate pat before standing back up. "You little mischief-maker."
Jordan: He ran his hand over the Bursting Shard egg and mentally shrugging as he felt nothing, removing his hand just as the hints of something touched him. He paused and put his hand against it again, but it wasn't until he was pulling away a second time that he felt it, stronger than before. He shook his head at the tricks the egg was playing-- or was it just weak?-- and moved along to the Resilient Warped Egg, another contender for Green.
Without thinking, he set a hand on a nearby egg to steady himself, and was hastily jerked it away when it turned out the be the Bursting Shard Egg playing its little trick.
"...Shards, Jordan have you seen this one?" He blinked at it in surprise, and patted it again, with the same result— but this time Pahlan grinned right along with it, "Ha! Prankster, this one." Viddle stood straight again and feeling much less uncomfortable now and was more relaxed as she approached the Bursting Shard Egg.At first as a larged scarred hand caressed the egg lightly, like she had the others, there was nothing. She didn’t get any sort of feeling from this egg. The smile Quick Sparkle had brought to her face faded, and frowning now she squat beside the egg and rested both palms against the egg and actively searched for some sort of presence. Feeling the amusement she sighed softly and smiled
Ah sly trickster you are. I am glad all is well with the shell though. You had me worried I was wondering if I should make sure to have my belt knife at the hatching for a moment there. Try not to scare the young ones too much little one. You might upset them. May you find yours swiftly.
The Bursting Shard egg she was sure was a dud, but just as she went to lift her hand, it proved her wrong. Lilah frowned. A dragonet in an egg was playing tricks, really? And now it wanted ehr to cheer up?
And with that, she gave the egg one more stroke before turning to the Bursting Shard Egg. It lay at an odd angle and off from the other eggs. Analyssa wondered briefly if the eggs rolled themselves or if Yirath was responsible for their placement? Straight to think eggs had minds but there were dragons inside and those dragons did have personalities. It was something she would have to discuss later with Brynth. Instead, she focused on placing both hands on the egg and trying to get a feel for who was inside.
It felt quiet. Almost too quiet. Like the spark had gone out before it could shine. Lyssa bit her bottom lip slightly and hoped that this egg would not be a dud. Or if it was possible, an Atype dragon. She shook her head with a defiant NO to herself. Maybe it was sleepy? Suddenly, the candidate startled as the egg almost seemed to wake up and go BOO! Looking around sheepishly, Lyssa moved back to the egg and shook her finger at it. Grinning from ear to ear, she mock scolded it. "Why you! How many others have you played that trick on? Hmm. Very clever of you, your rider will have to keep an eye on any other tricks you might play." How many was that? From there, Cormeric moved on to the Bursting Shard Egg as it was likewise sitting back and away from its siblings. If it could even be called that at this point. It sat apart and he waited his turn to touch it, hand as light as he could manage, just in case he might startle it or anger it or -- but there was nothing. Warmth, yes, but no push back against his mind and no answer to his sudden worry that whatever had been inside might not have survived...until the thinnest thread of amusement snaked out to brush against him and he cracked a broad and very abrupt smile. A good trick. A very good trick. He grinned his way on to the next egg.
Touching the Bursting Shard egg didn’t help his nerves. Rufet bit his lip. Was he doing everything okay? This one didn’t feel like anyth- did he break it?! Oh no, oh no, oh n- Rufet jumped as the egg moved, feeling a brief moment of cheer before he snatched his hand back.

The Dragon! The Hatching Quote: As the brown headed towards the boys - glancing over his shoulder every so often - more eggs began to sit in Yirath's protective, possessive grasp. This time it was the Bursting Shard Egg and the the Honorable Champion Egg moving, and while the Champion was rocking and twitching more vigorously the Bursting Shard seemed to be making more real progress with cracking its shell. The brown meanwhile had reached the boys and now sat back on his haunches, peering from face to face as his siblings had before him. He still seemed to be having trouble focusing on the task at hand though; he kept glancing back at his mother helplessly, looking as sad and confused as ever a dragon could. As he watched, the Bursting Shard Egg cracked open to reveal a very vivid blue who quickly scrabbled upright with a happy trill. Just as his brown brother had he then quickly did a double-take at his mother and let out a sad little whine. For a few moments he looked up at her with saddened grey eyes but then - quite unlike his brother - he touched noses with her only briefly and crooning what could be a gentle goodbye he clambered over her foreleg and trotted towards the boys with a flicker of green already returning to his eyes. The Impression: Quote: The striking blue waited a few moments for his brown brother to move off with his new lifemate, humming happily at the back of his throat. Hardly a hint of grey remained in his eyes now, clearly whatever else this young one was he was impossible to depress for very long at all. After stretching out his wings and glancing briefly over at the girls, he quickly proved that he wasn't the sort to spend long agonising over anything at all. Giving a trill, he trotted confidently over to Alain and reared up on his hind legs, placing his forefeet on the youth's chest. Name: Troiseth Colour: Blue Inspired by: Turquoise Personality:Troiseth doesn’t have a care in the world – or you wouldn’t think it from how he acts at any rate. When he isn’t floating in the lake, sunbathing, performing acrobatics, or playing with whatever dragons will have him, Troisheth is probably off pulling a prank. Mischief making is this blue’s favorite hobby, and there’s nothing he loves as much as a good joke. This dragon is very well-meaning however, and he has no desire to hurt the feelings of the overly-sensitive, so he tends to curve his antics to those with a stronger sense of humor. This isn’t to say his estimations are always perfect, but he will (only a little reluctantly) abort a hoax and apologize for troubling someone tender hearted to take it. The reason for Troiseth’s playfulness stems from his lack of apprehension about… well, anything. This dragon simply doesn’t believe in being serious about anything. However, even though work may not be his absolute favorite thing to do, he isn’t lazy. He’ll fight thread with the best of him and fly patrols without too much fussing; he just doesn’t see the point in being serious about it. In fact, why don’t you try lightening up as well? Troiseth prefers seeing smiling faces, and if he can’t tickle a laugh out of someone for being bigger than them, he’ll do his best to joke and jibe it out of them. He doesn’t care whether he’s the center of attention, but he enjoys good company and good times and is drawn to crowds. Troiseth’s lack of seriousness will become handy when cheering up anyone willing to listen, and during a crisis, this same lackadaisical attitude will keep the blue cool-headed and capable of acting. The only thing that will make the dragon pause is the safety of his rider. If bonded is hurt Troiseth will fret, though as sure as he’s sure that His will pull through he’ll be excellent, cheerful company for his bedridden rider. Troiseth will chase every green he sees in the air, but he might not have the best winning streak since he’s more intent on putting on a good show to jibe those other over-serious males. Why me?Troiseth is perfectly fine letting Alain be the center of attention. After all, he just wants to have a good time, and he loves that Alain knows how to take a joke – though he will prefer having His help him make mischief for others! This blue doesn’t see why His gets worked up about heritage, but then he also doesn’t really see what problem there is with atypicals either. He won’t bother to argue the point, though he might make a small joke or two about the matter just to lighten the mood. Troiseth will also be there to remind Alain not to hold so tightly onto grudges. After all, there’s nothing to worry about. Even though Alain takes criticism well, Troiseth’s advice will be even easier to take, as it comes in the form of jibes, jokes, and suggestions. After all, he loves His, so there’s nothing else that matters too much. It will be up to Alain to remind this blue about proper behavior, however. He’s enough of a prankster to be compatible with his dragon, but someone will have to respect authority and those who will doubtless have to put them in line, and this someone is Alain. This pair might get in a fair bit of trouble in their lifetimes, but they’re the best partners for the job. Size: Average Build: Average Inspiration Turquoise Turquoise is an opaque, blue-to-green mineral that is a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminium. It is rare and valuable in finer grades and has been prized as a gem and ornamental stone for thousands of years owing to its unique hue. In recent times, turquoise, like most other opaque gems, has been devalued by the introduction of treatments, imitations, and synthetics onto the market. The substance has been known by many names, but the word turquoise, which dates to the 16th century, is derived from an Old French word for "Turkish", because the mineral was first brought to Europe from Turkey, from the mines in historical Khorasan Province of Persia. Pliny referred to the mineral as callais, the Iranians named it "pirouzeh" and the Aztecs knew it as chalchihuitl. Turquoise apparently forms by the action of percolating acidic aqueous solutions during the weathering and oxidation of pre-existing minerals. For example, the copper may come from primary copper sulfides such as chalcopyrite or from the secondary carbonates malachite or azurite; the aluminium may derive from feldspar; and the phosphorus from apatite. Climate factors appear to play an important role as turquoise is typically found in arid regions, filling or encrusting cavities and fractures in typically highly altered volcanic rocks, often with associated limonite and other iron oxides.
