History:
Product of a union from a Holdborn woman who'd aged out of Candidacy and a rider of unknown ranking's dragon's mating Flight, Lena's origins are fairly typical among her weyrbred peers. She never knew her father, knew her mother by sight but was not raised by her, and spent most of her time running about the Weyr getting into mischief. She was considered a fairly biddable, sweet child, though with a tendency for seeing drama where there wasn't any and magnifying that which already existed. As a young woman in the Weyr, she thought nothing of pursuing excitement and pleasure when they suited her, and has been given extra chores more than once on account of her hedonistic ways leading to a neglect of the responsibilities assigned her. Still, she's managed to squeak by without any particular negative notice, save perhaps the Candidate Master's.
As she grows older and faces the possibility of aging out of the system, Lena's become more interested in the various crafts practiced around Trine Weyr. She could never imagine leaving her home even if she never Impresses, but she also has trouble committing to any course of action besides offering the dragons their choice. She dabbles in a little of almost everything, and is usually one of the first Weyrfolk to offer to pitch in with help if a Crafter needs it, even if she lacks specialization.
Description:
Lena is a short, petite young woman standing just around 5'0”, though her energetic and vibrant presence more than makes up for her lack of stature. Her hair is a middling-dark brown that falls just past her shoulders, a stark contrast with her paler skin and wide grey eyes. She favors skirts and pretty things to wear, though she won't shun pants for the really dirty chores. She has a somewhat shapely figure that ensures that, despite her height, she won't readily be mistaken for a child, though she is often guessed to be a bit younger than she really is.
Personality:
In many ways, Lena is a quintessential person of the Weyr: tolerant of many ways and beliefs (but believing the Weyr's way is superior, naturally), a certain tendency to please herself and seize the day because it could be your last, and absolutely, completely confident in herself. She takes pride in her home and is quite friendly to the often-curious Candidates from elsewhere on Pern, often a quick volunteer to show newcomers around and help ease them into life at Trine.
Lena is quite selfish at the core and mostly interested in pleasing herself, though it may not be apparent to those who don't know her well. She's so friendly and charming—surely it isn't so? This trait often causes her to hurt others through neglect, or what she would call “self-protection”...if she is being criticized or talked badly about, she will most certainly take offense, and more importantly, get back at the offensive parties!
She can be rather flighty and capricious, and good luck getting this Weyrgirl into anything resembling a longterm committed relationship—one would have to be very determined, very clingy, and very willing to please her every whim. She doesn't appear to have thought through the consequences of gaining a dragon lifemate, since it would approximately equate to aforementioned longterm committed relationship, but that's also very characteristic of Lena. She's a Candidate because that's what all her friends are, that's what's expected of them. Sure, dragons are lovely creatures, but Lena won't be heartbroken if she doesn't Impress—she's more there for the socialization of the Candidate barracks, honestly. But once Lena makes up her mind to do something, that's it—no discussions are likely to dissuade her. She's the reckless sort who chooses her actions and whims on the fly, often for whatever seems like it might provoke the most interesting result.
Still, because she does tend to choose the most interesting path, she has an awful lot of interesting stories at her disposal, and her cheerful demeanor does tend to win her friends. Affectionate and a genuine lover of the company of others, she perhaps comes off too strong for the liking of the more shy. She's most interested in having a good time and seeks out those she thinks will provide that. Her favorite times at the Weyr are those of celebration: Hatchings and feasts and anything that gives her an excuse to dance.
Lena is fairly high-energy and can be found often swimming in the lakes of Trine, playing games with the younger weyrkids, or volunteering to run messages around the Weyr.
