I chagood my mind about the theme of my book. The computer world story worked better as a game than a story, so it's on hold.
You guys are probably getting sick of me with this, but could I get some opinions on this story.
It's a sci-fi story. Here it is:

After centuries of peace in the galaxy, The Galactic Dominion is put at risk by The Regents quest for the 4 Roshnoral Crystals. The ancient stones that legends tell can open a doorway between dimensions.
Everyone remembers the stories of the evil Emperor, but few know of his banishment to the other dimension. Once the stones are gathered together, the Emperor will be able to return and resurrect his army, reigning destruction on the galaxy.

A lone warrior, living in exile finds out about the Regents plans to gather the crystals and bring back the Emperor. He alone has the knowledge and the skills to stop the regent.

So begins a race around the galaxy to collect the crystals. One man working with the resources of an empire at his disposal. One man with nothing but his own skills.
The fate of the galaxy in their hands.

That's the basic outline. What you think?

Ok, I now have 7 different ideas for a book. Not one of them seems to be original, or good enough to warrant carrying on with.
They are all something that's been done before.

So I think I should give up on this before I waste too much time on it.

Look, don't give up on it. What you may want to consider is approaching the genre differently. Don't think of ideas you're comfortable with. Try to think about things that are odd...maybe even creepy, if needed...to get an original spark.

Obviously, nothing's exactly original anymore, and just because someone's dont something similar doesn't mean you shouldn't write it. Trust me, this comes from a writer who knows how to deal with it.

I can't see another way to approach any of my ideas. Which is the problem. I've hit a wall.

WAIT!!!

I think I just cracked my Virtual Reality storyline.
I looked up similar books available and there was one pretty much the same as I'm trying to do. It gave me an idea to fill a couple of the plot holes I had. That book only focuses on one game genre, while mine has them all, so I shouldn't have to worry about plagiarism or anything right?

Look, I'm posting on my phone which is really slow and awkward, so I'll post a full update later when I get home and to my computer.

I may have to do [yet] another thread for it though. I've managed to get a lot outlined for it in a short time. Basic story, character details, character equipment, in-game character controls, in-game character commands, in-game story outline.

Quite a bit. sweatdrop
