Hello to any and all lurking about; lurking about, hmm? That's rather sneaky of you--some real espionage work goin' on! Seems like you'd be prime material for us here at -CLASSIFED-, seeing as our room will be all over a
SPY THEME!
Yes, that's right! This year we're putting a sly spin on the News Room! Come join us in planning out ideas for the News Room! Feel free to suggest characters, plot ideas, visual ideas, and anything else!

The Sands of Time Blow.... You guys should do Interviews like I did in the 7th. They were a big hit. (Where you interview the Main Host, Last year's Main host, The Room Hosts, and the Admin who gives us the Forum. And post those interviews as part of the News Room.)
If you do decide to do this mind you, give yourself at least a month to get all the interviews done. (And of course do it close to the end of the planning process.) ....Greeting the Demonic Prince.

Yes! I'm definitely planning on bringing back the interviews. I loved reading them myself! Although, I get the feeling that the Admin interview might be hard to get. SimplySimone isn't a moderator anymore, I believe? I don't know who we asked for this past ball, either. XD

I think the new admin is Zero Omega if I remember correctly. Maybe we'll be using the same person? *not sure* But, whenever you do the interviews, you could be a detective, getting information about possible suspects! whee

Suspects? Does that mean there will be some sort of crime in the main plot?! Baha! XD

Maybe the spy-themed ball room could be filled with high tech gadgets. And the ball is an attempt at catching at luring a world class thief of some sorts in for capture? just throwing that out there.

I don't know if it's customary for the news room to do contests, but if we do, I have an idea for a spy-themed contest: an Ottendorf cipher! (I got this from National Treasure, hehe!) Basically, how it works is that the coded message is made up of a bunch of numbers that look something like this: 57-4-2 The numbers actually represent the position of a letter in a word in a book, so the example I gave actually represents the second letter of the fourth word on p. 57. The sender and the intended recipient have a prearranged source (usually a book that both of them have identical copies of), and this allows them to send and receive messages in a relatively simple code. What I was thinking was that we could have a little message for guests to decode (and help us with our "mission"), but instead of using a book (since that would be a logistical nightmare), we could specify a certain thread in the forums, say, the "Anyone else can't stand Twilight?" sticky in the Books forum. (For the record, I'm neutral on the whole Twilight debate; I was just trying to think of a thread on this site that would be easy to access, full of posts, and not likely to be going anywhere any time soon.) But...yeah. An Ottendorf cipher based on a thread in the Gaia forums would be set up this way: We tell the guests what thread we're using, and then the numbers would be: [page number within that thread], [post number on that page], [the position of a word within that post (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.)], [and similarly, the position of a certain letter within the specified word]. The first person to decode the message would win an item that would go with the espionage theme of the room.
Like I said, I don't know if it would be feasible to do a contest in the News Room, but thinking about secret agents just got me thinking about codes, and that's what led me to this random little post. blaugh

And the ball is an attempt at catching at luring a world class thief of some sorts in for capture? just throwing that out there. I like the gadgets. We should talk about how we want the room to look/feel. The thread banners and decorations could be futuristic and very technological. I imagine the room as a spy headquarters for a secret organization, of course. Complete with screens (holographic or not I haven't thought of) everywhere, with people constantly bustling about and handling important information and other such tasks. A really tricked out office, really. However, the News Room could also house portals to each of the other rooms, with maybe each room being shown on a screen. Those screens could be banners on the front page, so it fits the consistency of the spy-themed art, of course. It ties into the idea of being a News Room and providing ball-goers updates on the other rooms in a perfectly logical plot vehicle. Yeah, those are just some of my ideas. Take them as you will. XD I loved National Treasure! And I love that idea! Although, I'm not sure how certain things might work out. Are we telling the guests the exact thread, or telling the to find a thread based on a clue or hints we give? Would we just pick random threads, or secretly set up our own on alternate mules? And how could we be sure that the threads are probable to find?

The security screens are a great idea. And there could be one of those things where it scans your eye or hand before it allows you to enter, to keep enemy spies from sneaking in. And of course, lots of computers keeping track of everything happening at the ball so far. I hope we get some more plot ideas soon.

And how could we be sure that the threads are probable to find? I'm not 100% sure on that point, actually! sweatdrop It seems that an Ottendorf cipher would work best using something that has a lot of pages and words, so the answer isn't obvious to someone who doesn't know the code. So I would suggest using a really BIG thread. Stickies that already exist would probably be best for that. As for letting the guests know what the thread is, maybe we could tell them outright EXACTLY which thread to use but put the answer in another, simpler code (1=A, 2=B, etc.). Or give them a relatively easy riddle that gives them the thread once they figure the riddle out. But...yeah. As you can tell, I think codes are fascinating, and I volunteer for any project that involves putting together a simple code and creating puzzles out of it! whee

I really like the idea of using codes. I think we could make that work if we thought it out a little more. Although, I'm not sure if we (as just the News Room) are really supposed to hold contests or not? Hopefully we can. <3
We'd have to fundraise, though. XD
