Sphere 1 of solar system 1 approximately 2,174,000 sphere three solar revolutions after the supposed death of our Mythic creators’ humanity. I have am 9th of my model type but the first shipped by jump gate to Sphere 1 one of the most hostile of the spheres on this solar system. I have been outfitted with the most durable and efficient of materials in the construction of my hardware and been given advanced analytical functions all to further heighten my success at making this sphere habitable for our kind in enough variety as to make honest use of its resources. As I look up to the sky perfectly clear without pesky atmosphere to obscure my view i see the bare and nakedly blazing glory of Sol out yellow sun. Its intensity matches my own this day as I start once again in earnest to collect analyze and work towards taming the sphere of fire and ice.

On this revolution of Sphere 1, the unit G-12-IN0004-MU9-SR174-FPD2174000ADH (Yaknow, I think I'll just refer to the unit as Gin) found itself once again standing over the incredible sun baked ceramic of which is indigenous to Sphere 1, (or as the mythic humans once called it, Mercury). It is extremely hard, and so far Gin, being as advanced as it is, has not yet found a way to break it down or harvest it...

"Attempt #18,742,381.... I will attempt a new method of explosive extraction. I have tried to use cutting, plasma arc, high pressure erosion and a multitude of other methods. Explosives are in the remainder of my alternatives. I do not wish to make this material unusable so I shall start of with a fair estimate of 3% of my stored explosive material..."

G-12-IN0004-MU9-SR174-FPD2174000ADH Began humming softly as his four insect like legs popped smoothly out and gave firm stable footing and his arms came out from either side of his normal spherical compact form. His central observation and resource center raised from the central axis of his sphere shape as a small series of tubes put 18 pea sized spheres in a radial circular pattern on the surface of the ceramic compound. He then closed up into his compact form again and rolled a safe distance away. Activating a remote signal he activated the explosive compound...

There was a small explosion after Gin activated the explosives. Unfortunately, this did nothing either; all it did was leave a small starburst pattern on the ceramic surface...

G-12-IN0004-MU9-SR174-FPD2174000ADH began softly humming as a series of dark thoughts and emotions began filling it with frustration. "Very well, the ceramic again failed to break at all, while this means testing is impossible, I will try to look on the bright side and say that this only proves its durability. After reassessing its durability I shall use the remainder of my explosive material. This will make a significantly greater explosion with a much greater blast radius and thermal cast off." The machine set up on the exact same spot once more but merely dumped a sphere of the material roughly twice the mass and size of a large bowling ball and got more than several miles away. He then once again detonated the material which now had the force of a large nuke. It would either work or fail and since this seemed the only resource of real future value here it meant either the machines purpose continued or stopped here and now...

The explosives went off, shaking the ground beneath Gin, sending him bouncing and rolling away from the blast.

Unfortunately for Gin... that much explosives didn't do anything either...

When the machine went back and discovered no change its processing components for a moment refused to accept this. The laps in thought filled the machine with a panic it had not known before. It had failed. it had no use now and would be doomed to roam the sphere knowing it would no longer contribute to its people or their future. It could not allow this to be its end act. It struggled pushing its analytical software nearly to its limits... The jump gate used even now little understood technology that somewhat bend or even broke the laws of physical law. It bent space and time. Perhaps there was a way to use the broken remainders of the one way gate left behind when he entered on this do or fail task to make something that would extract at least a sample of this material. He went to the gate and took all the usable parts. He understood parts of the technology and understood the methods of portal device construction. Perhaps if it made a device that bent the space around the mass of the ceramics it could get chunks while bypassing the materials physical toughness. Slowly it began tooling and building its device until it was done. The device was a ring that would make a multitude of portals aimed directly into the material at contradicting points in hopes of ripping it directly out of its position in space and depositing it in neat disks for use... that was the hope any way. The remote wireless interface portions of the original gate had been ruined so in order to activate its device the machine would have to do it manually... And so with the device completed it pushed the button to activate its "extraction portal"...

There was a sudden shwoomp and... the device imploded. Since Gin was so close, it was caught in the implosion.

For Gin, everything went black.

After a moment, Gin found itself somewhere VERY different. It found itself in a place with soft brown ground, and taller lighter brown objects (rectangular in shape; 16 feet tall; covered in swirling ringed patterns) lined in neat rows. these brown things were strung with wire, and covering the wire and born things were... green things, coiling up and over the brown rectangular things and intertwined with the wire; large flat green things hung from the long green things as well as huge spherical purple things which were grouped in bunches, and the smallest of them were at least a foot in diameter... some were larger then that...

At the base of one of the nearby rectangular brown things covered in long green things was a bright orange thing. It looked like a large puddle of... the closest thing Gin could recognize it as was oil, but it appeared to be much thicker and had a lot more substance to it... In it was floating two glowing green orbs...

Up above, the sky was blue... not black with visible stars... nor was the sun so close-- it was a bright golden orb in the sky shining light down onto the area.

And, if he looked down, he would see at his feet three medium sized disks of the stubborn ceramic sitting on the soft brown ground.

G-12-IN0004-MU9-SR174-FPD2174000ADH eyed this impossible lanscape carefully... very carefully. He also opened up himself and placed the disks into storage within his body. He went over to one of these erect masses of green and brown and observed it more closely... He took out a few drilling tools and sample collecting vials to analyze in his internal laboratory functions... He then began drilling into and extracting a small portion of the rectangular brown structure that supported the green masses... His hypothosis was the entire mass was one entity of some unknown technology he had yet to encounter. Perhaps if he took samples from its core structure he could further understand its functions and make some sense of what was around him. He took the sample and stored it in an internal lab within himself used for detailed material and chemical analysis... He then closed up once more and began rolling around using his sensors to navigate...
PostPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:12 pm

As he analyzed the samples, he found that the sample he took was of a hard, fiberus... tissue; it appeared to be made up of many many many cell like structures.

Eventually his scanners picked up that the oil thing from before... was moving. It was oozing over to where Gin had taken the sample and had oozed up to cover the place where the robot had taken the sample...

"Contradiction of data at hand and knowledge stored in memory... Crittical contradiction. Must catalouge and further study." The machine goes to the oddity of self mobile oil and opens up once more as he studies it carefully. "Self mobile fluidic substance of unknown design and purpose. I will attempt to take a sample." A tube with a three part cuting clamp at its end comes out from the machines internal structures and attempts to puncture and take a sample of the strange substance...
PostPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:28 pm

The substance rippled and the two glowing orbs floated over in his direction. As he tried to take a sample, he found that the oil like substance was much thicker, like a jelly, and even when separated from the main mass it moved as if it wanted to go back TO the main mass. Infact, it seemed quite determined to stay in one piece.

The thing itself burbled and made a... very, very, very strange series of sounds. It had a buzzing quality to it. It was also slow, and had a lazy quality to the series of sounds... they seemed to repeat in places that seemed to resemble vocal language.

The slime was speaking, on one of the common tongues, and it had said: Hey man, that hurts. Please don't take part of my mass from me.

As the substance began to make noise The machine had already been recording it. It was procedure for any study to record all aspects of the event. The machine went over the noises with a mass of different software as it had picked up a noticeable pattern in the sounds. Eventually when he felt he had cracked the pattern he attempted to break it down and use it himself. "Duuude dont be so harsh. I was just tryn to get to know how you vibe. You kool with that buuudy? Or was I harshing on your buzz? No bad vibes intended bro. Didnt even know you were one of the peeps if im telling true."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 19, 2011 10:49 pm

The substance, once he apologized, kept oozing up the wooden structure, till it covered many of the long green things.

Tis okay man. But it's part of me, ya know? It's all part of me.

While Gin had been figuring out the thing's language, he hadn't noticed, until now, something odd happening to the post... it was suddenly growing taller, and little what had to be called cone like structures but extremely elongated were rapidly growing out of the sides... it's main shape was going from cubical to cylindrical in shape, eventually forming into a point... the extremely elongated conical things were growing itty bitty little darker green things... They were tiny and flat and about half an inch long and few millimeters wide...

Meanwhile, the longer green things had been changing rapidly too, stretching easily to accommodate the brown structure's growth.

"I dig it man, its all a part of you." responded Gin. However internaly Gin was actually having great trouble "digging it" at all. Gin whirred and hummed a bit as Gin stored the collected data for later in depth study. He then observed the new turn of events as the slime mass began changing the actual structure and design rate of the other strange thing in front of it. Gin collected the data and opened up as The machine extended his arms to collect some of the green flat structures and some of the growing green structure. It was clear to Gin now that it had incorrectly assumed that the two structures were a singular unit. He placed them inside the lab for later study. "Hey bud, whats the deal here? How are ya making everything change so much man? Its tripping me out."
