Yes that's right, straight out of the Tokyo Game Show, Konami has finally - finally - announced an all-new Gensosuikoden title!

Here's the announcement from 4Gamer. According to a translation from those fine folks at the Suikosource forums, this new installment in our favorite series is called "Gensou Suikoden: Tsumugareshi Hyakunen no Toki," which literally translated to Gensou Suikoden: The Time of 100 Spun Years. Disappointingly, it's another story in the Million Worlds/Infinity, as introduced in Tierkreis. Still, we can hope it will be a bit more creative than Tierkreis was.

I have to say... as soon as I saw NEW SUIKODEN ANNOUNCED I was like, OMGOMGOMGOMGGGG YESSSSS! But then I read that little intro blurb saying it's in a different world hundreds of years later...

I want to like it, I really do, but Tierkries was not Suikoden. It was a game where you collect 108 characters that just happened to have SUIKODEN tacked onto its name, and if this one is anything like it--which it sounds like it is--I don't want to have anything to do with it.

If they'd kept with the original Suikoden world, didn't have any returning characters at all, and just made some kind of REFERENCES to past Suikoden events, I would buy a PSP just for this game, I would! I love this series so much, but when they stray so far away from all the things I love about it, I just see it as a waste of money sad

Depending on how good this game turns out to be, I'll have to finally get myself a PSP.

Just seen the game myself. Yeah, the Suiko series is just spin-off and/or games with the name in it. It doesn't even look like a Suikoden game (the art automatically threw me off)

Meh, the life of developers in a fickle industry, eh?

yup, no american release ^^; for some reason developers have the impression that RPGs are unpopular in the USA unless it has a first person shooter mechanic like mass effect or skyrim >_>

Nintendos apparently reaching out and offering to cover import costs for RPGs that go to their system though this doesnt change the fact that companies like Konami are wary of the RPG genre in general. (A company that buys hudsonsoft, the maker of bomberman games only so they can discontinue all of the games hudson was developing and effectively shut down their competition)

Its hardly as if Konami is doing badly either. >_> despite being spinoffs with no relation to the main series (suikoden is essentially their label for RPGs in general) they were not bad games (so long as you understood that they were not necesarily related to the main titles) and both spinoffs made a pretty tidy profit for them.

Then in the last year they have released a new castlevania and a new metal gear and such...

Well annnyway, suikoden tapestry of the century is apparently about a world in great peril that forces you to use a time travel mechanic to try saving the day with the catch being only the main character can travel between time periods
