The jungle was filled with all the regular sounds of night: Soft scuttlings, rustles and calls of birds. In the still air beneath the mighty trees, where the wind could never reach, the sweet scent of many huge, multicoloured flowers permeated the air, attracting the flitting little hummingbirds with promises of sweet nectar.

Fjolnir had been watching the zip-zip-zipping of the busy little birds, humming quietly to himself under his breath, for quite some time now. He knew he should probably be sleeping, but he just couldn't bring himself from looking away from the dancing colibris. He would fall asleep eventually, anyway - and his jaws streched open in a huge yawn as if to further remind him of this - and it wasn't like he had anyone else to adapt his sleeping pattern to.

The pink lion let his heavy head fall back down onto his paws again and huffed a sigh. He didn't mind being alone, not anymore, but given the choice he wouldn't have hated having someone to talk to. Someone to pass the time with. His thoughts went to his old friend Spectre, and he wondered where the ghostly blue lion might be now. He had said he would come back some time, but he never had. Fjolnir hoped that whatever kept his old friend from visiting him was happy circumstances - like having settled down and started a family of his own.

And Fenja... Maybe she was lost. Maybe something else kept her from coming home. He would wait. He would wait forever if that's what it took, but sometimes... sometimes, somewhere, in the far back of his mind, the treacherous thought lingered and stirred his grief: What if his instincts were wrong? What if the reason that she never came back was that she was already... gone?

No. He pushed the traitorous doubt from his mind and focused his attention on the flitting hummingbirds. Fenja was still alive. He knew it in his bones.

User ImageLilah had wandered far, but she was sure she had never been to this jungle before. She had glimpsed it in a brief vision the night before, but she had never stepped a paw in the jungle in life. It was interesting. She moved as quietly as possible, slipping between the trees. It was so ... loud. Compared to this, the savannah was dead silent at night. It made her a bit nervous, even though she hadn't seen any ferocious looking predators.

She heard someone sigh nearby and froze. It was a weary sound, not an aggressive one, but still ... when no other sounds came, Lilah cautiously stepped towards the source of the noise. She didn't much want to meet anyone in this jungle, even after seeing it in a vision. Still, she was curious. Why had the stars shown her this place? She didn't often uncover the meaning behind her visions, but she couldn't pass up the opportunity to investigate the jungle a bit, not when it had been directly in her path.

A lion! For a second Lilah thought it was the one she had glimpsed oh-so-briefly in her vision. Softly colored and patterned with white ... but no. This lion was male, and pink dominated his pelt. The other lion had been even paler. Still, they were similar enough in looks. Lilah looked at him warily, wondering if he had seen her, if he was going to attack her. He didn't look vicious, but there was no telling. She cleared her throat softly, just in case he hadn't seen her. There was still room to run if he decided to charge after her, and if he was interested in talking, she was curious about this place.

Fjolnir's ears swivelled at the soft sound of someone gently clearing their throat, and he had to lift his head to look around, half thinking it could have been a sound out of his imagination. But his eyes soon found the dark shape of a hyena between the mighty trees, and he had to blink once to make sure that she was really there.

Her pelt looked like she had just stepped down from the night sky. She could be a dream. But since she was still there when he opened his eyes, he decided that she was most likely real after all. Having made himself clear on that point, Fjolnir smiled and inclined his head to the night-pelted hyena. She seemed to be alone, so he didn't feel threatened. She had also announced her presence in a respectful way, so he was inclined to believe that she was friendly. And since he had just wished for someone to talk to...

"Well met in the night," he greeted her, still smiling. He opted to remain lying down so as to appear as un-threatening as possible. "What brings you to this corner of the world?"
