Someone on my Facebook linked me to an interesting article that identifies the four main playstyles of gamers and the psychology behind them. Article here
In a nutshell:
Socializers are the people who hang out in town and chat with everyone they know, probably often guild leaders and merchants. Killers are griefers, PKers, and trolls, people who get a kick out of screwing with the other players. Achievers are progress-oriented and focused on doing well within the parameters of the game. Explorers are most interested in getting to know the game world, they're the ones usually discovering silly tricks and finding hidden locations and whatnot. They go deeper into it in the article and explore the motives behind all these styles, but I think they covered most players pretty well with these four categories.
I think I'm somewhere between an achiever and an explorer. How 'bout you guys?

I would have placed you more as Killer, what with all the LoL trolling. You seem to get endless satisfaction KSing and, when we play normal, facerolling. And then you go and play Janna and help everybody. :I But I guess LoL is kind of a weird example, because you have to know tons about the items for the right build, how to work with your team, how to make the enemy team ragequit, and how to push turrets.
My Keirsey temperament matches what I thought I'd be. Explorer, baaaby. I sometimes enjoy the other things too, though. Like in RPGs I hoard items so much. "OH MY GOD, LULU'S BEEN DECAPITATED NOOO. PHOENIX DOWN, PLEAAAASE." "No, b***h, you're going to restart from the savepoint and do it right. >:I"

I was into just playing the game, and then I found demon's souls (the best game ever made to date) that allows you to basically build however you want and then show people that no you aren't a moron for doing some seriously weird s**t with your build.
I'd put myself somewhere between achiever and killer. My favorite game scenario is finding a really weird and obscure tactic or strategy that I find effective and exploiting it to make people angry.
I.e tank kennen, lich bane karthus (ultimate irony build)
I get very competitive against my opponents, but never against teammates. I won't feel bad if, for instance, I go >X/X/>X if I personally know that i contributed to our team's victory.
Definitely an Artisan type

I've seen these ideas presented before on The Escapist somewhere. Huh. Anyways, I'm clearly an Explorer. I like to discover, particularly to understand a situation better. It's what I do best. That's why, if given the chance, I will gladly volunteer to go on a suicide mission for scouting purposes, or in an open world I'll keep roaming until something fifty levels over me beats me down, or I'll ignore all of the missions in a game just to explore the surroundings and understand the space I'm in. There's a pretty funny example, years and years ago, when I picked up Runescape (the birthplace of my username, actually XD), I had spent time figuring out certain systems the game had in place, like the bank and respawn and whatnot, before immediately storing all of my possessions and running out into the wilderness as far as I could just to see what was out there. I was promptly beaten down about halfway across the map by some ogre or something that was literally seventy-something levels above me. xd Or another, I spent about seven solid hours one day just plotting out various game-breaking strategies with classes for FFTA2. My favorite is still the dual-wielding sage who teleports behind someone, slaps them twice with a sword, and decimates everything in an area around them before teleporting back to their appropriate space. xd If you've noticed, I actually apply the same mindset towards Gaia, though I'm sure my "what can I get away with next" antics are fairly obvious. xd
In terms of the Keirsey model, I'm a rather Rational Idealist. The constant drive to always know is there, but I find it's always more fun with other people.

I get my satisfaction from being a total bamf and making sure everyone knows it, even when I'm playing support. (Janna may not get kills herself, but hot damn can she make them happen.) Like a boss objective-oriented player.
Actually, you strike me more as a socializer. In SK, you're key-boombox-trolling us and in LoL you're always creeping the ******** out of randoms-- oh wait, hold on, there's a cockroach in my bra.
Neither of those are very exploration-oriented games though. We'd both probably play very differently in more open-world-ish MMOs.

I had Members' for a while and GOD THE WORLD WAS HUGE I WENT ******** then got poisoned in the jungle and ran all the way back from Karamja and died literally a second before I could drink the antidote potion I had in the bank and lost all my rune s**t and ragequit

Neither of those are very exploration-oriented games though. We'd both probably play very differently in more open-world-ish MMOs. Ha, you have to be a socializer of some sort if you're playing MMOs. The only reason I play LoL is because everyone else here does. But the exploration aspect is also about understanding game mechanics and builds. Like, I've spent probably an entire day total this past week figuring out a new build for Malzahar, and a lot of that was spent studying damage totals, damage after magic resist, how I'd do against tanks or squishies or carries... The exploration aspect is a lot about understanding what goes on behind the scenes, as much as the scenery itself. But my god, you guys, it all goes to hell once I go in and can't find my lane. One of you needs to get your boomkeybox out for me. :C I guess I could be considered social, but really, I only do that s**t when somebody I know is with me. I am like the bullychatthug backed up by his posse of ******** SK boombox deal is my favorite memory of that game. RIP.

Yeah, I don't get as into the calculations and stuff; I'm more into seeing what I can walljump over, finding good item/laning combinations, doing silly builds on gimmicky theories (I try AS/AP hybrid on anyone who makes it seem even remotely viable xd ), learning to predict the opponents successfully enough to land blind shots, throwing random Clairvoyances just to see what I can see, etc. I wish there were more maps though. :I Can't wait for Dominion.
I found this item efficiency spreadsheet an interesting read though. You might too. Probably right up your alley as well.
I played SK with Shigar less than a week ago. It's not -totally- dead to -everyone- yet. xd
