It hadn't been much more than a week or two since Spectre had left his side, but Fjolnir was already missing his gentle friend. The jungle was still a beautiful and soothing place to be, but it felt a bit empty when it was only him, walking about in it. He heaved a small sigh and wandered down to the shallow stream, leaning over it to take a look at his own reflection.

He wasn't a cub anymore. He had a more marked fluff on his head, that was starting to spread down onto his throat, too, and his paws weren't so cubbishly big in relation to his body anymore. He sighed again, and sat down, looking up at the hanging garlands of colourful flowers.

"I've grown again, mother," he said. "I feel like my body is changing every day. I'm hunting, too, and it's going pretty well. Spectre has left, and Fenja still hasn't come back yet, but I know she is still alive. I just know it." He looked down at his paws for a moment, and smiled when he looked up again. "I thought of a new song! I'll sing it to you."

His voice had not quite started changing much yet, so it was a set of bright, light notes that lifted from his maw and wafted out through the fragrant jungle.

The adolescent leopardess had found this forest, dwelling within it for the past few days. Prowling around in secrecy after coming in contact with a number of prides where her kind weren't allowed. Getting chased off time and again made the female apprehensive when it came meeting lions. Grown lions at least. By this age the leopardess had grown a defined, if not a little skewed world view of how things worked. Where the weak were persecuted and the strong inherited all.

This forest was so much different than most she's traveled to. The trees were spaced enough to allow light to shine through, allowing plants to grow along the forest floor with splashes of color dotted here and there. Not to mention the bustling prey population among the vegetation. It was practically a haven. Not that Hoalohanani was gorging herself. From the past few days of scoping the place out, the female was aware that life was present in this forest at SOME point. But the pride must have moved on... because she hadn't found any signs of recent activity.

You could imagine her surprise when Hoalohanani heard a voice lifting from somewhere to the east. Having been lounging lazily on a rockface, her ear flickered once she heard the faint voice.... the distinction making it clear to her that it was a chiiiild. And all at once the leopardess was up on her paws and barreling through the forest, headed toward the source. She had no reason to fear for lions. She saw no signs of them being here recently. And any impressionable youngster all alone in the forest... why, it was play time as far as this leopardess was concerned. Harassing little ones was practically her calling.

The pink young lion finished his song and sat for a moment, listening to the echoes of it. After a moment, he looked up again and cleared his throat a little embarrassedly.

"It's, uh... It's not quite done yet. I'll keep working on it." When he had imagined singing to an actual person, he had suddenly heard all kinds of off-points and childish turns and plain stupid rhymes, and he did feel a little bit as though his mother and the others of his lost pride were sitting around, smiling and shuffling in that patient sort of way they would do when they had some pointers to give, but wasn't sure how to say it without hurting his feelings. He decided to change the subject.

"Um... So, I'm growing stronger, and I'm getting better and better at hunting, and... And I'm doing fine, really. I caught a bushrat this very morning, all by myself!"

He finished his communication with the flowers with a smile, and turned to walk away. He liked to think that they could still see him, or hear him, but that also meant that he felt he had to put up a strong front for them. Truth was, he wasn't very happy at all about being all alone now. The jungle felt emptier since Spectre left. And bigger, somehow. And wilder.

The closer she drew towards the source of the noise, the slower the leopardess' gait became. Padding through the shrubs, her almost tribal pattern to her coat made for a great camouflage. Creeping closer in silence allowed her to listen to the male's voice as he spoke... but there was only a male voice. No response from whomever he was talking to.
Coming to a full stop, the leopardess poked her head out from behind a tree to peer at the creature residing at the other end. When she spied the lone lion.. Hoalohanani wasn't shocked. She merely soaked in the situation, piecing together that the youngster was alone. Sizing him up only caused her devilish grin to grow. He was so, so young~!

This would be easy.

Sliding around the curve of a tree's base, the leopardess padded out of the shrubs without any attempt to hide her presence. Her heavy foot falls stomped along as the female swaggered out of the bushes. The leafs shimmering from the movement. That same smile remained as Hoalohanani closed the distance between them. "How do you do?" She asked, sweeping a paw over her chest as if poised and elegant. "I was just passing through... when I heard your voice. Why, what a voice you have!" Stepping closer, her smile broadens. "...are you all alone?" Was the follow up question, distinctly misplaced in accordance with the previous question.

Fjolnir jumped in surprise at the sudden rustle of leaves, knowing instinctively that it was something potentially bigger than him, and completely unaware of its presence before now. When his eyes met the shape of the sleek, beautifully-patterned leopardess, and he could see the smile on her face, he immediately relaxed and turned to greet her with a slightly sheepish smile.

"Oh, hi. I... I didn't hear you coming." He felt a little bit warmer under his fur at the thought of this stranger having heard his silly little unfinished song, and cleared his throat shyly. "Um... thank you. I... I'm not really that good... just a novice, really... I don't... I'm not... If you'd heard the elders sing, you wouldn't compliment me." He let out a slight, embarrassed laugh and changed the subject.

"Alone? Well, uh, not really... I... It's... Well, yeah, kind of, I guess." Another nervous little laugh. "I'm sorry, I'm babbling, aren't I? My name is Fjolnir. What's yours?"
