I found this whilst on vacation, in a river....Thought it may be a possum but it's snout seems kind of short? Anyone have any ideas? I only really got two pics of it from the top but the top was even harder to tell what it was than the bottom, other than it was covered in tufts of fur and mostly bald. The first two pics really were just documenting the butterfly which I find pretty interesting that it was so attracted to death Then I flipped it over... and it's teeth, or what was left.

The butterfly is a tiger swallowtail. Not that you were asking. ninja
No clue on the dead animal though. I'll look and if I find any ideas I'll come back.

I'll go with raccoon. That tail looks as though it has slipped fur.

I originally thought it might be a dog, but after the paw pics I'm going to say raccoon for sure.

I think the front paw definitely looks like coon hands. Seeing the beautiful buterfly on such a very VERY dead thing... am I weird to say I find it quite symbolic? A life/death contrast type thing I suppose.

It looks like a possum to me. I can tell by its overall marbled appearance that it is going through the bloat stage of decomposition. The bloating maybe causing its snout to appear smaller.
=u= I lost my appetite...

Death is as beautiful as life? Or it's maybe the butterfly is the murderer! gonk
@OP; looks like a possum, I knew it's not a dog by looking at the teeth. xD
