to answer your question, most guys assume that games are only for males because originally that's how it was designed basically. Mostly boys played them at first, though I admit girls did, just not quite as many according to most surveys. Though those could have been wrong, that's what everyone based their opinions off of, and its never really changed because most males assume girls only play with dolls and do the things girls do since that's how women are portrayed in society.

The majority of men I've met that were real hardcore gamers, also have never had a girlfriend before. There have been few exceptions that I have witnessed. sweatdrop
On Diablo II (expansion pack), I joined in on a Baal run with my necromancer. Slaughtered many, did my curses, summoned undead... They asked me to join them more on Cow and Baal runs.
"Leik, dood, u rule"
"..I'm a girl, not a 'dood'. e_e;"
"omg ur kidding. grlz play on Diablo!?!?1"
"Er..I should hope so. I'm sure I'm not the only girl here. neutral "
"o, ok...a/s/l?"
"......"
So yeah. confused It..really bothers me when guys a/s/l me, too. stare

Swayambhu The majority of men I've met that were real hardcore gamers, also have never had a girlfriend before. lols, yes ^that^ sums it up for me too. rofl
I think it's naive of guys not to realise alot of girls play games. (just because they are marketed out to guys? ... T.T ) Loads of girls play games, i've been in so many female only gamer guilds too. I've noticed though that it is only the 'western' male which will be suprised by a girl gamer, eastern gamers, such as Koreans and Japanese wouldnt give it a second thought, where as over here its like "wow ur a girl irl? HOMG! wana b in my guild plx k thx? can i hav ur email plx?" rolleyes

XD Yeah. There are some guys who sit in front of their computers all day and play video games. (Okay, minus school and arcades, I do that too.) But they just assume that girls aren't into violence and such. They're wrong, but I can't count the number of times I've heard: "WTF? Girls don't play ___(insert game here)___!"
What about the GameBOY? XP That's where nintendo lost me. I'm still waiting on the GameGIRL. :]

It is true that majority of the games out there are marketed to boys age 13 and up. This probably stems from the fact that majority of the game making industry is male. And what do most males like to make? Things they'll play. Thus, more games for boys get made. And the vicious cycle continues. xp
But anyway, to get to my point. Most hardcore (unenlightened) male gamers don't think girls play games because (as someone said earlier) society has raised us all with the thinking that girls don't want to play things that involve killing, explosions, etc. (which is a lot of the games out there these days). We like flowers and dolls and everything nice. rolleyes Which is so not true. Give me killing and car stealing over flowers and dolls any day. mrgreen

I think it depends more on age reallly. I dunno, they guys at my old school asked all the girls if they played games and stuff, but they don't anymore.

I think guys have the thought that they play video games because we are instilled when we're young that girls play with dolls and boys plays with trucks. Later as we grow, men either play video games or start playing sports while girls either go to the mall or do whatever we do as a preteen xd BUT most girls don't do what "they were born to do" and do what ever they want to do that they think thats fun. When girls do that, then boys think its there right that they can play video games and girls just don't.
Aslo, when a guy says asl, then tell them like 1500/unknown/hell. That will scare them off biggrin
